JACKSON, Miss. - Donnie Register has a new reason to be thankful he's married — police say his wedding band deflected a bullet and probably saved his life.

Two men walked into Register's shop at The Antique Market on Saturday and asked to see a coin collection, police Sgt. Jeffery Scott said.

When Register retrieved the collection, one of the men pulled a gun and demanded money. A shot was fired as Register threw up his left hand, and his wedding ring deflected the bullet, police said.

"The bullet managed to go through two of his fingers without severing the bone," said his wife, Darlene Register. "A part of the bullet broke off and is in his middle finger. The other part is in his neck, lodged in the muscle tissue. But it's not life-threatening."

She said she gives God all the credit.

Police were searching for the robbers, who Scott said "stole a substantial amount of cash."

A good "con" would merely point out the same thing would have happened if he had been reading his Bible and raised it instead flaunting his jewelry in public.

My dad's finger was almost ripped off when he slipped down a telephone pole while working and caught his ring on something.

Proves nothing.

No Con in his right mind would own a jewlery shop, so you would never have a con getting shot over the devils baubles!

proves only that libs are in the wrong place!

Same thing with my Uncle who was hanging from the ring caught on the rear view mirror of a tow truck. He no longer wears a ring.

Rings remind me of Daniel's 12,000 posts.

They just go round in circles.

I don't wear a watch... I used to be against them at one time. I felt like a hypocrite wearing a watch. To me, a watch is jewelry. I don't care if it's 'functional'. If it was wrong, it was wrong. No exceptions.

And today, I still don't wear a watch...

because I am too 'po' to ford a good one!:hanky

It was God's will that that sinner, wedding ring wearing man died. Or something. Because he shouldn't have been wearing that ring. Not with gold the Bible says.

There ya have it folks!

When my husband and I were first married he had decided not to wear a ring, that was ok with me. I wasn't going to wear one either but he went and bought me one for some reason.

So he went without it for a year and the third year of Bible College when I wasn't with him, some girls hit on him, didn't realize he was married, and he went out that very day and bought one.

To me, a wedding ring has a very good function.
It's a clear statement without ever opening your mouth... no, it won't stop everyone from hitting on a person, but it will stop a few.

When we got married, I had a wedding ring, he did not want one. Fine. About 25 yrs ago my husband's job involved travel and he tended to stop at the same gas stations etc. On one occasion as he was paying for the gas the female clerk gave him a piece of paper with her phone #.

He told me the story and >
I went to the local jewelry store and put a men's wedding band on layaway.
He's worn it since then.

LadyChocolate 12-05-2007 11:07 PM

Hmm! Am I still considered a conservative? I mean, I don't wear the wedding band, nor do I have a watch........ but I do have a dot on my forehead. Is that jewelry? Oh, I bet it's makeup! Lordchocolate and I are out of the loop now. bummer dude!
