Where Have All The Men Gone?

I saw this on another forum and asked/received the author (Pastor Steve Buxton of Hilltop Tabernacle Chula Vista, CA) for permission to post it here.

I guess the war was a pretty good excuse to place women in the work force. But glacing backward it seems to me that we not only took women out of the home but ultimately we lost the men in the process. The children of the WWII generation produced an attitude that explored the difference of the sexes while losing the respect of them. The children of the "make love not war generation" as they have moved into power, have done their best to absolutely destroy any deliniation of the sexes. With that has come this nuetered philosophy of Political Correctness of speech.

The reason for my post is that it seems to me that with the departure of real "Maleness" in our society it has become a seedbed for this PC mentality. It bothers me that men ( and I have seen it on this forum ) have to apologize and try to defend themselves if they speak in a way that some would consider not PC. Were the O.T. Prophets P.C.? Were the Disciples? Was Christ? I think not. Trumpets can be loud, disrupting even alarming but they do give a certain sound. Is not the admonition of Isaiah 58:1 to "lift up thy voice like a trumpet..." I am in the Church today because Men of God, Real Men of God, lifted their voices plainly....and I heard them and understood them..and am thankful for them today. Lift up your voice like a trumpet!!

Hilfiger??? Monkeyman, Hilfiger? I think Tommy Hilfiger is "straight" at least. Kind of like "heterosexual fashion designer Calvin Klein." But just look at what Calvin Klein did to the coin pocket in men's jeans. Now even the cheapo Jeans at Sam's Club are based upon the CK design and the coin pockets are useless. At one time I blamed this on "gay culture" but my friends told me CK wasn't "gay."

I don't want loose coins rattling around in my Jeans. It scatches the LCD screen on my cell phone. I want Levi and Wrangler style coin pockets at reasonable prices. No wonder the men in America and the West live in despair. Useless coin pockets.

I think Pelathais needs a Man Purse. :bubble

OneAccord 12-05-2007 05:30 PM

I read the title of this thread and I thought of the Josh Turner song, "I just want to be your man..." Think I'll wait, though, and sing it to Mrs. OA (as if I could sing!).

Funny you should mention that... I've got a little cordura nylon bag that was originally intended to carry those Dremel tools and bits. I've been using this as my "medicals" bag. Earlier on when I needed some meds at just the prescribed times I was kind of paranoid about where that bag was at any given moment.

One of my son's calls it "Dad's purse..."

Rhoni 12-05-2007 06:01 PM

I read the title and thought...maybe someone knows where some men are:)

Titus2Mom 12-05-2007 06:16 PM

I didn't see what the article was, was it the two paragraphs after your comment?

I thought this was a really good article I saw somewhere recently.

Where are the Men?
This was written by Andy Zoppelt. I don't know anything really about him, but I thought this was really good...coming from a woman who is tired of seeing "girly men" everywhere, and men who are too spineless to stand up and lead their families.

(I'm not even going to touch the "hairless faces" thing where it seems like men have to look like children or women! First they shave, now they wax, what is next? UGH! But that's a whole 'nother tangent)

I think John Eldridge give a very good picture of what has happened to Christian men in "Wild at Heart."

The church has "neutered" them and made them soft and has not allowed them to be the men God made them to be.

MOW....

The more I think about this the more I can agree with you...

It has taken submission to levels it wasn't supposed to go....

Speak for yourself and your church.

We don't have any soft, neutered men around our place.

Randy,

I love you man, but this is bunk.

Submission never neutered anybody.

If you want to know what has neutered men, the spirit of Jezebel and a bunch of sissified "Jesus Boyfriend" music has done it.

Here's a sample:

Your love is extravagant
Your friendship, it is intimate
I feel like moving to the rhythm of Your grace
Your fragrance is intoxicating in our secret place
Your love is extravagant

You know..... all those love songs to the Groom .... charismatics sing.

Coonskinner 12-05-2007 09:55 PM

Putting a bunch of queer music directors up as leadership hasn't helped either.

While we throw the excess trash ... let's scrap the Song of Solomon and all Bride/BrideGroom .... Wedding of the Lamb references from scripture ... we'd hate to emasculate the Church w/ all that bunk.

I'm not a big fan of that one, although when I was a kid it was my favorite. :)

Seriously, it was on page 122. I still remember.

It might not make men men, but at least it won't sissify them like a lot of the junk that comes out of the music world today.

From Casting Crowns:

Your love is extravagant
Your friendship, it is intimate
I feel I'm moving to the rhythm of Your grace
Your fragrance is intoxicating in the secret place
Cause Your love is extravagant

Chorus:
Spread wide in the arms of Christ there's a love that covers sin
No greater love have I ever known; You considered me a friend
Capture my heart again

Not all music directors, Renda.

But honestly, if you don't think the proliferation of sissies behind the keyboards has affected young men, you just haven't been paying attention.

I heard a soft little charismatic guy with a goatee and a silk shirt do that one, and it made my skin crawl.

I wanted to go take a shower.

I don't buy it.

With that train of thought, then we need to carry it a step further and say that any minister that has been unfaithful to his wife has affected his church and turned the men to adulterers.

Sounds like he was pretty happy to be "the bride of Christ!"

Joseph Miller 12-05-2007 10:07 PM

Well, we are the bride.

Also what is wrong with singing about our love for God and his love for us?

God is my father and I love him. I talk to him in way I don't talk to anyone else.

I actually like these worship songs.

I like some of the old hymns too, but didn't the Bible say "Sing a NEW song..."?
