Putting Away Christmas!

Anyone else putting away your Christmas decorations today?

I took the tree down last night, tucked away all the ornaments in their hiding place for the next year and stacked in the garage.

I can't get two pieces of the tree apart - need a strong hand, so that'll have to wait until my son comes over (it's in the garage though).

Decided to rearrange the furniture and I believe it looks better than it did before Christmas.

Took off a couple hours to watch a movie since I have three more days to get this all done!

Now I have a table full of decorations to wrap and put away and all the Christmas dishes..............ugh!

Everytime I put Christmas away I have to wonder what will be going on next year when I get it all out again.

My mom is taking our baby tree down and putting that stuff away...

I admit that I am not a great one for decorating for Christmas. If it were left up to me, it just wouldn't get done.

What movie did you watch?!

jrLA 12-29-2007 02:12 PM

Yes, my wife and I took all the decorations down last night as well. We normally wait until January 1st to take them down. But we have a really busy week next week, so decided now was good. I love Christmas and all the decorations, but it is kinda nice to get back to normal. Man, that sounds Scroogish! lol

Sam Shepard and Jessica Lange in "Don't Come Knocking"

Cindy 12-29-2007 02:16 PM

I haven't yet. Will probably do it on the 1st of Jan.

pelathais 12-29-2007 02:36 PM

Usually get around to it about March or April. I like to have the tree back out in the yard before the ice is off the lakes.

philjones 12-29-2007 02:42 PM

I am thinking it will look good as a Mardi Gras Tree, Valentine's Day Tree, Easter Tree, Mother's Day Tree, Father's Day tree, July 4th tree, and on and on ... I really don't see the need to take it down... it really fills an empty place in that corner of my living room. :D

The Mrs 12-29-2007 02:46 PM

Well, Renda, it appears you are the trend-setter around here. You got us all in the mood to decorate with those ornaments you hung over your counter top, and now you're making me want to dig in and get it all put away too! :jolly

Will probably get to it tomorrow. :santathumb

The Mrs 12-29-2007 02:51 PM

I suppose it's time to put away the Christmas smileys too, huh? :santaclaus

mizpeh 12-29-2007 02:53 PM

Does that mean the Christmas smilies will be put back in storage soon? :christmasjig:gift:gift

Blubayou 12-29-2007 02:56 PM

Got it done about 2 days ago. I normally wait until Jan. 2nd, but we have a busy week planned next week. When I get started I cannot stop. I become possessed with getting it all done in one day! Whew, was I glad when it was finished.

Phil- I have a friend that does the trick with the tree- She keeps it going all year.

rgcraig 12-29-2007 03:00 PM

Well, I just got it all out in the garage!

The only thing left is one Poinsettia and I just don't have the heart to throw it out yet - it'll die on it's own soon enough.

Whew!

Sorry to see the Christmas smilies leave - - they were fun!

I especially liked this one - it just seemed to fit me a lot - - :christmoose

And the LAST BOX!!!!!!!!!

marthaolivia 12-29-2007 03:01 PM

This was an unusual Christmas for me. I didn't bother to decorate or even put up a tree, therefore I have nothing to put away. Next year will be better.

It took my wife and I, 4 hours on Friday to put things away.

I still have to take down the outside lights...

With that much snow, you probably wanna wait a bit for those outside lights!:star

StillStanding 12-29-2007 03:16 PM

I normally get up early on New Year's Day and start taking down our outside lights and decorations while Mrs. Pianoman packs away all the inside stuff. The rest of the day I sit and watch bowl games! :)

I'm doing it tomorrow after church this year, because it's supposed to be below freezing on New Year's Day! brrrrrrrrr :)

And we is in Dallas!!! So Git out there and take em down! Cant be that bad! LOL

Ron 12-29-2007 03:28 PM

We take our Christmas lights down---at spring break!

Only because the neighbours start making fun of us!

Persecution, bound to come!

dizzyde 12-29-2007 03:30 PM

Kind of funny, I haven't decorated for Christmas in a few years. We usually wind up spending most of our time at my parents over the holidays so it has seemed kind of pointless.

So anyway, on Christmas day it was just my parents and my daughter and I, so we went to dinner at a nice restaurant. Afterwards, my daughter and I went to Starbucks and by our house to change into comfy clothes before we went back over to my parents to hang out.

By the time we got to my parents house, my parents had their tree completey undecorated, and most of decorations out in the garage already!! I was like, "well, I guess Christmas is over"! :jolly :santaclaus

Me too, I got food poisoning in Palm Springs. Maybe it is because they use non-potable water at all the golf courses there.

We did get to go to a wonderful little home missions UPC church there in Desert Oasis called ironically Desert Oasis Fellowship. The pastor and I knew some of the same people...small world.

Golfing in Palm Springs....I can only imagine how great that was and how the golfers here are surely envious!

Hoovie 12-29-2007 06:23 PM

I wait a few weeks... even keep exterior lights burning.

Margies3 12-29-2007 06:53 PM

I WISH we had taken the time today to take our tree and decorations down. But Walt - aka "Mr. Christmas" - thinks that it is a horrible sin to take anything down before January 1st. He is simply not willing to risk eternal damnation over it. Bah Humbug.

Everything is down, packed, and put away.

I always heard it was bad luck to leave it up past New Year's Day.

Luck?

Uh, maybe abomination!
