advise for 3 day nose bleed...

I've had this nose bleed for 3 days now, it's not pouring out my nose... just kinda fills and drys in my nose:dunno It is red fresh blood... I'll clean my nose out and not even 5 minutes later it is full again, kinda like blood boogers or somthin.... I've been trying saline nasel spray and It's keeping my nose from feeling like I have knives in it, but there is still the blood. No fans, open windows, or vents above my head when I sleep.... I think that answers the questions everyone else asks.....

any advise, anyone?

My son had this problem and finally had to have his nose cauterized to ever get it to stop.

Hasn't had the problem since. His was caused from allergies always keeping the lining inside his nose raw.

Gross!

Go to a doctor! You may have a vein that needs cauterization.

Put vaseline in there...keeps it moisturized and doesn't evaporate.

Warmbee 03-09-2007 03:15 PM

maybe that's why my nurse friend and my pastors wife sounded worried.... I so need one of those 'my bad' smilies :heeheehee

My daughter Alanna has a vein near the surface inside her nose and we periodically have to give her some vaseline on the tip of a finger and insert inside her nose.
She doesn't like it-but it works!

What medications are you taking?

And don't take any aspirin products while the bleeding is occuring.

That's your ears....I think a little vaseline on the end and in your nose is okay! Better than your finger......germs on fingers!!!!

Esther 03-09-2007 03:52 PM

How is your blood pressure?

Actually, the Doctor told us to do just that with a "clean" finger though.

That would be my first question as well. Since I went through the experience not long ago with hubby having the nosebleed that wouldn't quit--and the extremely elevated blood pressure, etc. They never did find any reason all that should have happened--after thousands of dollars worth of tests--- and he hasn't had any problems since... but everytime now that he mentions having a nosebleed-- I immediately make him check his blood pressure.

The Saline may just make it worse. The sodium may cause your nose to dry out and continual cleaning it may prevent it from adequately clotting and healing. Perhaps you should see a Doctor?

You could always shove a tea bag up your nose depending on where it is bleeding from :heeheehee

Saline doesn't cause the nose to dry out. That's what's used for dry noses. I understand why you'd think that, but you are dealing with a mucous membrane, and that's the difference.

Ron 03-09-2007 07:06 PM

Most important thing is get it checked out by a doctor-it could be worse than it is.

Yes, as does ibuprofen and Aleve. Tylenol is best for just about anything.

Right, Tylenol does not contain the same kinds of ingredients. In fact it's one of the properities of aspirin that makes it an anti-inflammatory agent that also causes it to be an anticoagulant I think.

Bufferin too has aspirin in it.

You are correct. It's best though to make your own from purified water and kosher salt. The other ingredients in those kinds of nose sprays can cause problems

You are correct on both counts.

Overuse can also cause problems, but it would have to be chronic overuse.

Warmbee 03-14-2007 10:12 PM

hehe, I'm sorry ya'll... my nose bleed stopped the night I posted this:dogkiss :tiphat
