Dad Get's His Praise On!!!

Click on the link below to see my Dad, Pastor Manuel Alicea, 1945-2005, getting his praise on ...

He loved to worship ... run the aisles and shockamoo for Jesus.

Some of the events in the video are Pentecost Sunday and his last birthday celebration at El Tabernaculo de Jesucristo in Elmhurst, Queens ....

Sound is not in sync ... but it's great just the same.

What were the flags all about? Enjoyed the video!!!

SDG 03-10-2007 06:38 PM

Just something we'd do for Pentecost Sunday ... a worship tool ... I guess.

Dan that is so Awesome. I have been looking for a video of My Dad John Eckstadt forever. He passed away in 1978. I am holding out hope that someone out there has video of him.....It would mean so much to me...

I didn't understand the Spanish, but it was good to see your Dad on fire for God.
It looked like a full house too!

I am sorry to see that you only just recently lost your Dad.

You have a rich heritage.

One question-Can you Shockamoo like your dad?

Thanks for sharing that Video.

Felicity 03-10-2007 07:16 PM

I really enjoyed that Dan. Thanks for sharing!

Sure .... I can shockamoo!!! ... sometimes even at home ... when I think of the goodness of Jesus.

BoredOutOfMyMind 03-10-2007 07:28 PM

It was a nice video Daniel.

Did the flags have different sayings on them? The place looked like there was 300-350 there. How long ago was this? Was this the normal crowd for your Dad's church?

We purchased 350 seats.... The church fit about 350-400 ... ..... if and when we used the mezzanine ...

we had over 280 members on our rolls when he passed ... on an average Sunday night we would run about 200-250 ... The church was once a Jewish synagogue.

3 months before he died ... he was able to purchase the building next door .... this will give us ... some much needed space ... space is limited in a city like New York

These clips are about 2-4 years old...

On Pentecost Sunday .. our 5 daughter churches would come and celebrate with us .... we would celebrate using flags ... on this day and other special days.

Some of the flags had praises on them ....

Sarah 03-10-2007 07:44 PM

I'm curious, Daniel..........how did you end up in the Houston area?

The building next door must have been a special blessing. We rented our building for a while to a Spanish Group when I lived in New England. They would show up for church at 10 below and try to heat a cold building in 30 mins. It drove me bananas how we never could get them to let us know when they were coming or not.

My wife is from here, Houston ... she wanted to be near her family ... after spending over 11 years in NYC ... after he passed ... it seemed like a time for transition. Mom moved to North Carolina ... as did my sister and her husband to start a work in Wilmington.

I thought that was probably the reason why.

Do you like the south?

Purchasing the building next door was a crowning moment for Dad ...he wanted nothing more than to see the church grow and expand ....

The church had saved for years ... for more property .... He barely could walk to the closing but he did it joyfully.

I know what you mean. We lived in New England, and now live in the south. But we're from here, so we knew what to expect.

I love the New England states!

I don't find that people in the south are nicer at all. Now, they might appear to be, but most of the time we just 'gush'. lol

We mostly found New England people to be true blue. What you see is pretty much what they are. At least that was our expeience......

I would tend to agree ... that North easterners are more transparent ....

I sure do. It has been 29 years. I am almost the same age he was when he passed away. We were so blessed to have father's with a great realtionship with God.

I am so blessed....

Daniel, there is nothing quite like the hands-on experience that comes through building a church. My kids are so invested in the work that has been done in our current pastorate. They are very protective of that investment.

I see that same appreciation shining through in the words you've written here.
I like the layers of history and love you've revealed. Thanks.

In all ... that has transpired ... PP ... I've learned that this is His Church ... Jesus paid the ultimate price ... what we put in ... pales in comparison ....
