Blizzard in Alabama!

Snow falling at unprecedented rates!

Store shelves emptied by worried customers.

School cancelled, roads closed, church services cancelled.

Salt trucks at the ready, street workers work overtime.

TV and radio stations have begun 'Round the Clock" coverage.

"Major" Winter advisory for North Alabama issued.

Electricity demand high, outages feared.

Rescue personal ready to render assistance.

Police, towing services ready for car accidents.

Deicer, salt, snow shovels and blowers in high demand.

Its the Blizzard of '08

Well... weve gotten about a quarter of an inch of snow.!:happydance

Tennessee is like Alabama. You get an inch of snow, and the whole world closes down around you!

I live in Montevallo; it was raining ice this morning, but I wouldn't dignify the stuff with "sleet". I had no idea it was actually snowing!

Monkeyman: That looks fun. :-p How long would it take you to get your vehicle ready to actually drive?

Cindy 01-16-2008 06:31 PM

Do you have a heater to keep your engine from freezing up?

We start singing "Send Down The Rain Lord" when we get snow like this in SE AK. :D

MM is that powder or the heavy snow? Ours is normally of the heavy participation.

Scott Hutchinson 01-16-2008 07:09 PM

No snow in South,Alabama. It's a little chilly but no snow.

Mrs. LPW 01-16-2008 08:14 PM

The snow is heavy right now...

We do get powerdery stuff though.

We've had more snow come down in our neck of the woods this year, than in a long time. So much for global warming.

We got a record snowfall last winter.More was predicted for this winter. We're happy to say we haven't received as much so far this season.
It warmed up last night and turned to rain.Lots has melted today.:)

Passed thru today going to Nashville.......definitely not a blizzard but pretty steady rain and snow falling from Brimingham into TN.

Cindy 01-16-2008 09:17 PM

We hardly ever get snow in East TX. But we do get some horrible ice storms. That's the only time to be ungrateful for an all electric home. Luckily we have a fireplace and a wood burning stove to cook on. So usually we end up with a houseful of people since my son and his family and my BIL both live right by us.

Now that is why I live on the "Wet Coast!"

We don't shovel rain!

I wonder if my SIL is getting any? Tried to call this morning but no answer.

They did get a few flurries Wed I think it was.

Cindy 01-18-2008 12:29 PM

It is snowing in some parts of East TX. today but not cold enough to stick. For which I am grateful since I do not like snow. But my grandson is wanting it to snow here. I got a call from my son in Tyler and my daughter in Hallsville that they are getting a little snow. So it must be coming from the Southeast.
