Another SONG Thread: What Still Moves You?

We presently have a thread that talks about the 'songs' that have been worn out and desperately NEED to be retired. Seems to be a great, fun thread. Had a lot of references to some 'old' songbook type songs (which, by the way, in spite of having kicking music I still love most of the old songs) and I noticed that there was a lot of fondness for some of them.

In that same vein of thought, I'm wondering the following:

* What ONE song still moves you after all these years?

You know what I mean... that one that just 'does it' every time you sing it... it still captivates your heart and moves you deep inside. That ONE song that still moves you to tears or makes you rejoice.

This should be interesting to say the least!

MINE? I love 'Amazing Grace' but probably the one that always reaches in my spirit is "Sweep Over My Soul".

BAD BAD BAD!!!!!!!!!:stirpot

Ron 01-17-2008 06:53 PM

"More than wonderful" & "Jesus is the best thing" moved me to tears when I first came to God 25 years ago & it still does today!

philjones 01-17-2008 06:55 PM

Steady,

the songs that still move me in spite of their oft hearing are usually those that take me back to the point where grace intersected my sin and forgiveness met my repentance... Songs like Mercy Came Running, When God Ran, songs about mercy, forgiveness, restoration.

I probably am not that different from everyone else. I think most of us are moved by and love songs that relate closely to our life and salvation experiences.

Desperate For You

Scott Hutchinson 01-17-2008 06:58 PM

Are you washed in the blood ? The rugged cross and such the old hymns move me.

Barb 01-17-2008 06:58 PM

I would have to agree with Bro. Ron...Jesus Is The Best Thing sung by anyone, but especially if I hear it sung by Rev. James Cleveland...wow!!

RandyWayne 01-17-2008 06:59 PM

"This Blood" as sung by Carmen (from The Champion CD) holds a special place for me.

Cindy 01-17-2008 06:59 PM

It Is Well With My Soul.

Monkeyman 01-17-2008 07:00 PM

Ooooh, " Jesus Is The Best Thing" was a re-make of woooorldy music, Gladys Knight & The Pips....tsk tsk tsk! *just teasing Ron* (it was a re-make though)

I DO love that song by James Cleavland. I heard it for the first time in 1976 off of a recording of a live event.

Scott Hutchinson 01-17-2008 07:01 PM

Rock of ages.Jesus Saves,There is a fountain filled with blood.
Down from His glory. The Love Of God.

TalkLady 01-17-2008 07:03 PM

I still love "I Give You Jesus"..."He Rescued Me"..."Amazing Grace"...I can't get the YouTube option to work for "I Give you Jesus"....I like the real Oldies like "Sweet Hour of Prayer"..."Near to the Heart of God"..."Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus"...

Here's links to websites with many Oldies:

He rescued me is a great song.

dizzyde 01-17-2008 07:06 PM

It's not a old one, but one that gets to me everytime I hear it or sing is "heart of worship". Also "crucified with Christ", and "in Christ alone" (both songs).

dizzyde 01-17-2008 07:07 PM

One that I always have loved is "peace in the midst of the storm".

Bro-Larry 01-17-2008 07:08 PM

WoW!! This thread reallly took off.

Great Is Thy Faithfullness; Noone Ever Cared for Me, Like Jesus; In Christ Alone.

I love that one, too....and Bro. Murrell Ewing's song "Where did the storm go? Who stopped the rain"?..Or is "Where did the wind go"?...I love songs about God calming the storms and giving peace...Like "Master of the Wind".."The Blood's Still There"..."Peace in the Valley"..."The Only Real Peace"...

Bro-Larry 01-17-2008 07:12 PM

Thanks , Cindy. That's very kind of you.

TalkLady 01-17-2008 07:14 PM

I love to hear Vicki Yohe sing, "He's Been Faithful"...That's a tearjerker.

The devil stole it, then Marita Wolfe and James Cleveland grabbed it back.

I Need You More really moves me and also Beulah Land.

There are actually many songs that move me. It just depends on what I'm going through at the time.

They pull out the big guns when they sing "Lord I Love You" by Nancy J. Grandquist. That songs moves me to the core of my being every time it's sung and played.

Cindy 01-17-2008 07:27 PM

One Less Stone.

Page One in the Songs of Praise Pentecostal Hymnal, My Thanks to Him! "I love to tell how Jesus saved my soul.. when I was lost and facing dark despair....

For he is more than al the world to me, the dearest friend that I have ever known...

Love that song!

Another Great Oldie

Near The Cross

1)
Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross,
There A Precious Fountain;
Free To All A Healing Stream,
Flowed From Calvary's Mountain.

2)
Near The Cross A Trembling Soul,
Love And Mercy Found Me;
There The Bright And Morning Star,
Sheds Its Beams Around Me.

3)
Near The Cross O Lamb Of God,
Bring The Scenes Before Me;
Help Me Walk From Day To Day,
With Its Shadows O'er Me.

4)
Near The Cross I'll Watch And Wait,
Helping Trusting Ever:
Till I Reach The Golden Strand,
Just Beyond The River.

Chorus
In The Cross, In The Cross,
Be My Glory Ever;
Till My Raptured Soul Shall Find,
Rest Beyond The River.

Oh that just brought tears to my eyes Bro. Phil.
For mortal tongue could never tell the whole
Nor thank him for the love that he has shown.

More than yesterday
I need you more
More than words can say
I need you more
than ever before
I need you Lord
I need you Lord

Oh man, just typing the words does something to my spirit. It stirs me so much.

OK..I think I have heard that now that you have typed the words. Thank God, I KNOW I need Him...People who don't know they need Him won't seek Him. Thanks, Sis.

.....this was the first song we played ....and played..... and played ..... in the Piano Series (CLC - Goodine).... I think JCMers may have also wore this one out - on the piano at least!

The words are good though!

TalkLady 01-17-2008 07:37 PM

I had one of those "Teaching Little Fingers to Play" Hymn books (not sure that is the exact title) back in 2nd grade and I remember playing "Near the Cross", too - and "Rock of Ages"..."What a Friend"...I probably still have that book somewhere. That memory makes me want to go and look for it right now!

Don't get me to talking about that song. That's a favorite Oldie, too..Someone posted the YouTube of The Goodman's singing it and it really brought back the memories.
