Another SONG Thread: What Still Moves You?
We presently have a thread that talks about the 'songs' that have been worn out and desperately NEED to be retired. Seems to be a great, fun thread. Had a lot of references to some 'old' songbook type songs (which, by the way, in spite of having kicking music I still love most of the old songs) and I noticed that there was a lot of fondness for some of them.
In that same vein of thought, I'm wondering the following: * What ONE song still moves you after all these years? You know what I mean... that one that just 'does it' every time you sing it... it still captivates your heart and moves you deep inside. That ONE song that still moves you to tears or makes you rejoice. This should be interesting to say the least! MINE? I love 'Amazing Grace' but probably the one that always reaches in my spirit is "Sweep Over My Soul". |
Just can't get enough of "Friend of God"

"More than wonderful" & "Jesus is the best thing" moved me to tears when I first came to God 25 years ago & it still does today!
|
Steady,
the songs that still move me in spite of their oft hearing are usually those that take me back to the point where grace intersected my sin and forgiveness met my repentance... Songs like Mercy Came Running, When God Ran, songs about mercy, forgiveness, restoration. I probably am not that different from everyone else. I think most of us are moved by and love songs that relate closely to our life and salvation experiences. |
Desperate For You
|
Are you washed in the blood ? The rugged cross and such the old hymns move me.
|
I would have to agree with Bro. Ron...Jesus Is The Best Thing sung by anyone, but especially if I hear it sung by Rev. James Cleveland...wow!!
|
"This Blood" as sung by Carmen (from The Champion CD) holds a special place for me.
|
It Is Well With My Soul.
|
Ooooh, " Jesus Is The Best Thing" was a re-make of woooorldy music, Gladys Knight & The Pips....tsk tsk tsk! *just teasing Ron* (it was a re-make though)

It's not a old one, but one that gets to me everytime I hear it or sing is "heart of worship". Also "crucified with Christ", and "in Christ alone" (both songs).
|
One that I always have loved is "peace in the midst of the storm".
|
WoW!! This thread reallly took off.

I Need You More really moves me and also Beulah Land.
There are actually many songs that move me. It just depends on what I'm going through at the time. They pull out the big guns when they sing "Lord I Love You" by Nancy J. Grandquist. That songs moves me to the core of my being every time it's sung and played. |

Another Great Oldie
Near The Cross
1) Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross, There A Precious Fountain; Free To All A Healing Stream, Flowed From Calvary's Mountain. 2) Near The Cross A Trembling Soul, Love And Mercy Found Me; There The Bright And Morning Star, Sheds Its Beams Around Me. 3) Near The Cross O Lamb Of God, Bring The Scenes Before Me; Help Me Walk From Day To Day, With Its Shadows O'er Me. 4) Near The Cross I'll Watch And Wait, Helping Trusting Ever: Till I Reach The Golden Strand, Just Beyond The River. Chorus In The Cross, In The Cross, Be My Glory Ever; Till My Raptured Soul Shall Find, Rest Beyond The River. |

.....this was the first song we played ....and played..... and played ..... in the Piano Series (CLC - Goodine).... I think JCMers may have also wore this one out - on the piano at least! The words are good though! |
I had one of those "Teaching Little Fingers to Play" Hymn books (not sure that is the exact title) back in 2nd grade and I remember playing "Near the Cross", too - and "Rock of Ages"..."What a Friend"...I probably still have that book somewhere. That memory makes me want to go and look for it right now!
