I got an interesting phone call this morning....

from a man named David something or other... He asked me if I remembered entering a contest sponsored by Prilosec OTC. I kinda forgot his name when he told me that I won a trip to the superbowl--with a prize value of $4300.

Hubby's can't miss as many days of work as would be required to accept the trip on such short notice-- so I had to turn it down. (Not to mention that hubby HATES watching football!!)

The trip was non-transferrable. I couldn't give the trip to my brothers. (They would have loved it) They didn't offer a cash opt out prize. (Would have made a huge contribution to the church building fund :D) They wouldn't let me take a smaller prize either. (Which was what I really wanted!!) They will simply pass the trip to someone else.

I wonder what hubby is gonna think when he finds out I turned down the trip to Arizona. Maybe he won't be too upset that I turned down a FREE vacation for two. He will probably be thankful that he doesn't have to pay the taxes on the $4300 trip.

LOL Yeah, I know.

Isn't it just sickening? Why couldn't I win a trip somewhere while the factory is shut down for two weeks in July? :tantrum

Too bad Tina.

In Canada we pay no taxes on any prize winnings-ever!

If you won a million you would get a million!

Is there room in Canada for mone more?

My Grandparents on my Mom's side were both from St. John New Brunswick Canada.

They moved here in 1922.

She did not get her US citizenship until 1971.

When they realized she was collecting Social Security from my Grandfather.

They realized she was not a US Citizen.

She have been in the county almost 50 years but had never worked...

Tina 01-18-2008 09:34 AM

I still can't believe that I won the ONE thing they were giving away that I would NOT have used.

Not only do I not care for football--- I couldn't stand to be in a crowd of that size. (Not to mention the atmosphere) LOL

tamor 01-18-2008 09:34 AM

Tina,

Surely his work would have let him off for something like this. It's once in a lifetime. He is gonna be MAD at you!! You didn't tell me that part. I would have accepted then cancelled later if I had to.

I doubt it. Seriously. He didn't have enough vacation days left. The place has changed since the German company bought them out.

I'll tell him when he calls at lunch. I'll let you know what his reaction is.

Apprehended 01-18-2008 09:48 AM

Had you accepted the "winnings" you would have been the loser.

Scams abound, not a few.

This one was not a scam. It was sponsored by a well known OTC drug manufacturer, and they are the ones who called me this morning. If I'd accepted the prize, I would have to have faxed them two notarized forms in order to receive the package with all the travel documents. The win was legit. Unfortunately, I couldn't accept the prize.

I wonder if they called someone else or got to pocket the prize money back into the company.....

According to the rules, they would choose an alternate winner.

Coolness! Did you give them my phone number? :toofunny

Sherri 01-19-2008 04:30 PM

Isn't that just typical? Why couldn't you win a shopping trip to Great America Mall??????? If I won a trip to the Superbowl, I wouldn't get excited, because I don't understand or like football in the least. :tantrum

I would have done that in a heartbeat! Just to take a free trip!

You could have sold the tickets to the game once you got out there - lol!

Question: DO you remember entering a contest by Prilosec?

When we were in Vegas at a conference a few months ago we signed up for a Hummer at the Luxor hotel -and have been receiving calls just about every day this week saying we "Do you remember signing up for a Hummer on your recent Las Vegas visit? Well, you just Won a 2 day cruise!!"

Tina 01-19-2008 06:01 PM

Yes, I remember entering the contest. I had seen the ad on the box of Prilosec OTC that I picked up for hubby. I went online and entered... hoping to win a smaller prize.

It was a legit contest, sponsored by Proctor & Gamble.

I was hoping for one of the smaller prizes when I entered the contest. I can't believe they wouldn't let me trade off a $4300 prize for one around $1000. Sad, huh?

Occasionally I end up with something I can actually use. I'll enter any contest with a decent prize, as long as it doesn't cost me to enter. I've won several smaller contest prizes in the past. Mostly DVD's and other items I could "regift" to someone or sell on ebay if I didn't win exactly what I wanted. One of the more interesting prizes being $100 worth of Hasbro Toys. My girls were younger then, and they loved that prize.

LOL That reminds me of something I read on another forum yesterday. This girl was talking about entering the free contests, and how many times she'd won these great prizes. She said she would never enter a contest on a Sunday... she never prayed for God to help her win any contest... and she always paid tithes on the value of her winnings. She'd won over 20,000 worth of stuff in a year. :D
