I Baptized my Kid in Jesus name last night!

Last night I had the privilege of Baptizing my Daughter Sabri and my Boy Benjamin in Jesus name!

The pastor of the church stood on the platform and said Father, Son and Holyghost.......

.....But I said in Jesus name as I put them under.

No big scene, no one knew the difference....

Can I ask why you don't just go to a church that baptizes they way you prefer?

Coop,I love you and you know I do but but personally and I'm not throwing stones but I would go where they called the name of Jesus Christ over those who express faith in Jesus Christ by following Him in baptism.

I do not know you personally so I took out the first part of the quote as it does not change the meaning of the post. I agree with above written.

Recommending: finding a Jesus Name Church

COOP!!!!
IF that what you believe then why go to a church that does it wrong?
I think its great...but since the Pastor is an important figure in the life of a child...what do you say when they ask why you did it different then Pastor?

I won't presume to speak for Coop, but I've walked a similar road, and these are my thoughts on this question.

What would he say to his little girl, that doesn't adhere to standards, WHY she is so different, and WHY they don't do what the pastor teaches?

Not much of a difference from an argumentative standpoint. :dunno

are there really that many pastors that teach specific dress standards from the pulpit? Most of what I've heard is extremely vague.

I really don't want to turn this into a standards thread...Coop gets enough blasting for it as it is...

The point is:

You wouldn't be living/doing what the pastor teaches. It's almost a no-win situation. :kickcan

I am just plain happy that my kids wanted to live for God and be baptized.

I did contact an Apostolic church and spoke about baptism. It just did not work out and my kids drug their feet on going to The Apostolic church.

Besides that......what a witness and a testimony. The pastor of the church knew what I was doing.

What better way to witness Jesus name baptism than to just do it in a Loving Trinity Church.

totally understand.......just an observance I've made of late so its on my mind.

But I still bet that the not living/doing what the pastor teaches is not as widespread as we think......simply cuz it don't get taught.

Bottom line is coop baptized his kids in the name of Jesus. Way to go coop.

Apostolics have the truth, but are caught up in traditions and concrete mindsets.

I personally wouldn't have my kid baptised in a church where I didn't believe their method of baptism.....but that's just me.

Coop, congrats all the same.

Think of it this way - - - the "method" was correct! Doesn't matter where it was done.

You got a good point, but couldn't he find a non-standard church that baptizes in Jesus name?

There are liberal three steppers out there,as well as liberal PCI view folks who baptize in Jesus Name.

Re: I Baptized my Kid in Jesus name last night!

I will leave the baptism thing alone (cause it's a potential landmine topic and COOP knows it).

My question is this.

Why would you even attend a church where the pastor and bylaws of the church affirm trinitarian doctrine, baptism as nothing more than a Christian rite and the like?

To me, you are teaching your kids that those beliefs are perfectly acceptable.

How so? They understood why I Baptized in Jesus name.

Land mine topic? Why would you blow?

Did they understand why you attend a trinny church? Why you disregard the pastor's teaching and preferences on baptism? Why all of the confusion?

Just as much confusion would be to attend a church where he disregards the pastor's teachings and preferences on standards just so the pastor can say "in Jesus name".

Apparently, Coop talked with his kids and let them understand the importance of being baptized in Jesus name and the kids like that church.

What's important at the end of the day is not where or who baptized the kids, but that they were baptized in Jesus name, right?

They do not make a big deal over doctrinal differences as Apostolics would.

There is not any confusion that I know of.

I am not marked as a dog or a rebel for dis-regard to mode of baptism.

Now, I would ask you. Would you let a Trinitarian baptize his child as you Speak "in the name of Jesus" and he says Father son Holy Ghost?

Absolutely not in the church I pastor.

Cause I believe baptism is more than just some meaningless incantation.

The words mean something to me, and to God.

.

That is why I performed the baptism and spoke in Jesus name.

Are you saying when I baptized my kids it was meaningless and void?

If I were a pastor and a Trinity father wanted to baptize his child, I would agree to to it together.

I would speak in Jesus name, as he says F.S.HG..... as long as the name of Jesus was spoken over the baptism.

The one getting baptized he getting the benefit. Why rob the Baptism candidate Jesus name baptism over doctrinal pride?
