Then why bother posting this at all? Why not just fade into the woodwork?

I agree...
Why the need to make a great exit... it is getting old.

I have a question:

Why make critical, negative remarks when a prominent poster tries to be courteous and leave a few kind words as a goodbye message?

I'm disappointed.

There was nothing untoward in his post.

Why the attitude?

Amos 02-20-2008 12:41 PM

Re: Later..............

Unbelievable.

No drama, no hand wringing, no parting critical words, just a thanks and goodbye.

Since when has this ever been the kind of thing anybody got hammered for?

If he had disappeared quietly, somebody might have said later on: "Hey, where's IAintMoving. Anybody know what happened?"

So he gives us all a polite farewell and a God-bless-you, and people still find fault.
Amazing.

you are bidding farewell because your name is Iaintmovin? Sort of ironic isn't that? lol.

He was a prominent poster?

BTW I see most of you all did not get the reason why he was leaving? You also don't know what has transpired behind the scenes too, of which I can not speak of at this time..... lol

I guess I just have more information to be able to read between the lines and interpret his "this is why I bid farewell" part.....pointing to his nick

That is fine though. But you have to realize usually when someone bids a farewell speech they say outright they have health issues or some reason they can't be here or they take one last stab at the board, the admin team or some individual user and other board members here are sick of seeing them (goodbye threads)

Amazing.

Not really....he has NOT been much of a consistant poster here and has been gone often for a while and I don't see many people wondering where he went. That's just my opinion. I don't really care whether he stays or goes. That is his choice only

And now you are casting deep dark aspersions.

I don't think they are "dark aspersions" per se. IAM pretty much said in his post that he is leaving because "he ain't movin'", implying that AFF is.

Well, that's how I read it anyway.

Amazing.

Ok, here's what I think we should do...........

If someone is going to leave, they can contact an owner or admin by PM and let them know they'll be going and even tell them why if they care to do that.

Then later, even months down the road, if someone starts a post and says, "Hey, has anybody seen _________ laterly?", the owner or admin can come back and give whatever explanation they deem necessary at that time.

End of story. No long, drawn out begging for you not to leave. No dramatic farewell. Nothing like that.

Now if you are leaving for a health reason or if you consider all of us friends and want to share that info yourself, that's fine. But it doesn't make sense to say, "ok, I'm outa here and I'm not going to read even one more post so don't bother asking me to stay."

That's JMHO :)

That's all.

And once again St. Mark's question persists why has the direction been what it is under pre-dominantly conservative leadership ... if indeed it has ever really shifted.

Seems to me it is a product of what was tolerated ... albeit kicking and screaming.

I agree. I, for one, would have wondered where he had gone. I hope someone would miss me too... I've been thinking of pulling the plug for a while now but just can't seem to do it :toofunny

Has it ever occurred to you that NO ONE on this board is a dyed-in-the-wool conservative? That type would never frequent such a place.

I think what is happening here is a microcosm of a broader shift in the movement as a whole.

The leadership of AFF took very few steps to direct the forum. The direction of the forum came from the majority of the posters themselves, and is a reflection of them, and not necessarily the admin team.
