What Gospel Did Jesus Preach?

What gospel is mentioned here? What gospel did Jesus preach?

16And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

17And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

He preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His Gospel- that outlines His Mission and His purpose. Its interesting that you would bring this up today. I was think just the other day that there is more than one Gospel.

There is Gospel of the Law and Prophets, OT teachings that lead us to Christ.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ that covers His life, His ministry and, leads us up to His Death, Burial Resurrection.

The Apostles Doctrine- The Plan of Salvation, the doctrine and order of the NT church.

The Gospel of the Kingdom- The End of time, 1000 year reign with Christ, the New Heaven and New Earth. This one is rarely preached, though it is the one that Jesus said must be preached before the end of time.

Actually, there is only one Gospel, but, as the 66 Books of the Bible make up one Bible, so, too, these Gospels combine together to form THE Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Bible speaks of the Gospel of God, of Christ, of the Lord Jesus Christ, of peace, of the Kingdom

Good thoughts Bro.

Is the Gospel of the Kingdom the same thing as the Everlasting Gospel?

Re: What Gospel Did Jesus Preach?

There is only ONE gospel. This is clear from Gal 1:8 and Eph 4:5. The gospel (i.e. good news) is that the kingdom of God is at hand (Matt 4:17, Mk 1:15). This means that the kingdom of God (the rule/reign of God) is at hand (is within our grasp). Jesus makes clear that the kingdom of God is within us (Lk 17:21) and Paul agrees (Ro 14:17). They all preached the same gospel. The gospel is good news because the brokenhearted are healed, the captive is set free, the blind receive their sight (all of these figuratively and literally, of course), the bruised are set at liberty, and there is a special blessing upon the poor (Lk 4:18). The four Gospels and the Book of Acts is this in action - the gospel is seen at work. We get into the kingdom of God (salvation) by believing the gospel (Mk 1:15, Ro 10:8-11,16-17). The heart of the gospel, that upon which we put our faith, that which makes salvation possible, and into which we die, live and are baptized, is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Acts 2, Ro 10, 1 Cor 15, Gal 3:20-21, Eph 2:1-10) The OT simply forshadows all of this, and in this sense contains the gospel. Thats a main theme of the entire book of Hebrews, thats why the four Gospels keep quoting Old Testament prophecy, and why people like the Bereans could confirm the gospel the apostles taught by studying the OT (Acts 17:1-11), and why the NT constantly refers to the OT as confirmation of the gospel.
There is only ONE gospel.

Ever heard of "non-denominational"(Baptist) Bible "teacher" Les Feldick? He teaches there are two Gospels, Kingdom(Acts 2:38 salvation) for the Jews after the Rapture, and Grace(the greasy variety) for everyone else. He teaches that the Gospel of the Kingdom that Jesus and the Apostles preached was set aside because of His rejection by the Jews and it was replaced by Paul's Gospel of Grace. Because of this, the neccesity of Jesus' Name Baptism and the HGB are tossed out the window and repaced by Greasy Grace. After the Rapture, the Gospel of the Kingdom is back in business, being preached by the 144,000. Great, as if Dan Alicea needed another excuse to rip Acts 2:38 out of the Bible!

BTW to be clear, Feldick's teaching is laughable nonsense.

Never hearda that one. Didn't miss anything either. Wonder what he had to say about "one gospel being preached.."

Does the term "greasy grace" not sicken anyone else.

I find it deplorable that one can speak of something so vital to the Christian experience as grace.

Grace purchased by so great a sacrafice, by Christs suffering on the cross.

I find it callous that we can enjoin the word grace with the term greasy.

21And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

While Jesus was alive, the gospel was for those to believe that He was the Messiah and to obey and follow him.

After he died, Paul defined what the gospel is here...

1Co 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
1Co 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures;
1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:

After Jesus was resurrected, the gospel was the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

Is that a different gospel that what Jesus preached? I tend to think that while Jesus lived, he did not preach his death, burial, and resurrection.

Jesus prayed for all those who would believe on Him through the word that the apostles were gonna preach in the future...

Joh 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

Jesus gave them the word to preach to all the world here...

Luk 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luk 24:48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
Luk 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Peter obeyed Jesus' words of Luke 24:47-49 in Acts 2:38-39...

Act 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Act 2:40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
Act 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Concerning that saving message that was to be preached among all nations, but beginning at Jerusalem...

Act 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

Notice that Peter attributed the "last days" prophecy of Joel to what happened in Acts 2. The inference is that what happened in Acts 2 was in the "last days".

Let's see what else God had to declare about the "last days"...

Isaiah 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Notice that God said that in the last days a "law" shall go forth from Jerusalem and ALL NATIONS shall flow unto the house of God

Jesus in Luke 24:47 taught his disciples that a saving message should be preached among ALL NATIONS, but beginning at Jerusalem

Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Peter in Acts 2:38 obeyed Jesus and preached in the last days that saving message or NT "law" that should be preached among ALL NATIONS, but beginning at Jerusalem

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Peter in Acts 2:38 began preaching what Jesus in Luke 24:47 told him to preach, but it didn't end there - Philip at Samaria in Acts 8, Peter to Cornelius the gentile in Acts 10, and Paul at Ephesus in Acts 19 all taught the same thing - in the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses shall every word be established

God bless.

I will no longer use the term if it offends my Brother. I apologize. However, isn't it equally as deplorable to take Grace out of the Biblical context and use it as a license to toss out all obedience to the commandments of Jesus?

Jesus didn't just preach the Gospel, He was the living Gospel. What He preached was the Gospel not yet fulfilled,(Kingdom is at hand) not a different Gospel altogether. The Gospel of the Kingdom and the Gospel of Grace are one and the same Everlasting Gospel.

Grace is never greasy. All that we are is by the grace of God, so I also am grateful for the apology! Thank you Brother!
In the interests of intellectual integrety, an understanding of salvation as coming to us by grace through faith and faith alone (Eph 2:8,9) does not toss out all obedience to the commandments of Jesus. For those of us that hold to this view and are earnestly trying to be Biblical the key is the following verse (Eph 2:10) that we are created unto or for good works. We would say that true salvation always results in good works, but not that we do good works (even "works of righteousness", of which Acts 2:38 most certainly falls into -Titus 3:5!!) to be saved. To do so would be to put the proverbial 'cart before the horse'!

Not trying to start up another Act 2:38 debate here, just trying to avoid unfair charges

Very true! Its also possible to view Gospel of the Kingdom as being simultaneously : fulfilled before the foundation of the world (Rev 13:8) (and hence the means by which Abraham was able to partake of the promises of God by faith and the means by which the Old Testament saints were saved -Ro 4; Eph 4:8), as being fulfilled in the the ministry and life of Jesus (Lk 4:21, Lk 11:20) - and so fulfilled within the time frame of our lives, and as something that will be fulfilled when the Lord returns.

One could view this as being analagous to Salvation in the sense that: we were saved; we are being saved; and we will be saved in the Day of the Lord.
