Is the UPC and politics a good mix??? He has been getting coverage on NPR because of his opposition to Ron Paul.

He is running for U.S. Congressman

I hope he has a pretty thick skin. The Ron Paulites are a mean bunch when they get stirred up. But good for him. He seems like someone with a lot of ideas and a track record for keeping taxes under control.

The other day I heard on the news that the latest poll has him up 10 points over Ron Paul.

It seems like that while Ron Paul's constituents like a conservative they had no real idea how wacky he was on the war in Iraq and weak on defense. Now that he has made his non interventionist peacenik international policy the cornerstone of his Presidential bid the folks back home had all of this shoved in their face and many don't like it.

Generally he finds support from Libertarians and the Black Helicopter conspiracy crowd. Both groups live in a fantasy world with no apparent regard for reality.

Hey, get enough UPCers elected to congress, and maybe some good laws can finally be passed! Or, better yet, WWPFers! Federal laws banning TVs, Hollywood, shorts, pants on women, slits, hemlines higher than ___ inches below the knee (they'll have to fill in the blank), atheism, baptism in the titles. That would be a good start. Then watch revival break out in the USA!

(Not to disparage your friend, Dora. He's probably a great guy.)

I have been avoiding politics on here also because I end up distraught that so many OP's are in la la land with global conspiracy theories, desires to be pacifists and not take care of the interests of our country, etc.

There are a few things I like about Ron Paul, but after reading Chris' site and I am now convinced NOT to vote for RP.

Why don't you read what RP says for himself and understand his philosophy first. I know that takes some effort but that's the honest thing to do. The UPC guy spins just like all politicians do.

While I disagree with RP on several issues, I do believe that the UPC is putting out sound bites that are incapable of presenting the complete position by RP.

I can't believe how many people buy into Ron Paul's rhetoric and into his ideology.
Some of his rantings are just so much hot air. Maybe he like John the Baptist - a voice crying in the wilderness.

John the Baptist was not hot air, by any stretch of the imagination. ;)

He got to introduce Jesus as God in the flesh. That's a huge honor and a big deal.

If you mean the quote of mine you used in your post I absolutely did and do mean it.

Ron Paul primarily appeals to Libetarians and the Black Helicopter crowd.

He has proposed in the past dismantling almost every government agency. If he / Libertarians ever got their way there would be total anarchy.

I think he will win relection in his Congressional district but it would make my day if he lost. I may have to cough up a few bucks to send his opponent.

I thought Ron Paul's idea that we can just ignore the rest of the world and it will go away was brilliant. He should have been born an Ostrich.

That non interventionist theory will work just fine until an Iranian nuke is exploding in some nice American city like Austin by some Islamic Militant nut case in a few years.

America is going to have to be aggressive in the war on Terror or we will cease to exist.
