Video Editing
What do you guys that do video use? I have been using Adobe Premier Elements....and honestly I'm not too happy with it. I was gonna get Ulead's program.
Elements really is the stripped down version. As far as the video goes it's not great but not that bad for youtube, but there is no way to edit the audio track with effects or to clean up like pops and cracks. I made a video recording of my friend playing guitar and my digital camera picked up a lot of electronic pops....it was not from the guitar but I am thinking maybe the amp...since it is in mpeg Im not sure how to edit the audio separately and then put it back into the track...or if that is even possible. any suggestions? |
Re: Video Editing
I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio (Platinum Edition).
So far, I have no major gripes. |

Re: Video Editing
Prax, I use Sony Vegas Pro 8 and it works very well. You can get an Academic version for around $300.
Since getting my Mac, though, I just bought Avid Express Pro on eBay and will use it. It has good reviews. Retail, it is $1600!!! I got it for $175 and can upgrade to the latest version for $50. Avid is what the TV studios use. |
Re: Video Editing
MOW...
If you're interested in selling your version of Vegas Pro, I'm interested. |

Ulead works really well. It allows separate audio edits as well.

I think Vidoemaker Magazine and some other publications gave Vegas awards as the most for the money. |

Prax,
I forgot to mention that if you need to buy Vegas 8 Platinum Plus it retails for only about one hundred bucks and sometimes there are rebates. I got mine for about 65-70 after a rebate. |

You can usually pick it up on Amazon for a lot less than Sony sells it for on their site. |

Again, thanks guys :-)

This one retails for over 1800 (but we paid about 300 as students through the UW Madison).

Re: Video Editing
Final Cut Pro!!!!!!!!:bliss:bliss us dudes in the know call it FCP
Avid is good too...also, Avid (not express) is what a lot of TV stations use so...:) Also, I need to mention, Apple's Imovie that comes with every mac is SIMPLE, and puts out a pretty good project. I have used it many times for small, tight-budgeted projects. |

I was stretching things to buy a new Dell dual core desktop with 4 gigs RAM, 320 gb HD, firewire ports, media card reader, DVD dual layer burner, etc. That was under $700 plus $180 for a new 20.1 Widescreen monitor from Tiger Direct where the Apple I want would be about $3000 minimum plus the $1200 for Final Cut. |
Re: Video Editing
I am working on getting Final Cut Pro to compare with Avid Express Pro. I just tried iMovie and it is terrible!!! It does not seem like you can drag clips onto a timeline and edit with fades, cuts etc. With Vegas Pro, you just drag the clip, drag the end or beginning of the clip to cut it, pick your fade effect and voila!!! :D

I would tell folks to hold out, save up the shlamolians and pay for the Apple gear, it is sooooooo much easier/faster to use. Your jobs that you pick up will pay for the gear in no time. For instance, I held out for a really nice camera ($$$) as soon as I got it, I started to land bigger jobs and it paid for itself in 2 jobs!!! |
