What I love about conservatives...

1. Their passion for what they believe to be true.
2. Their courage for speaking out in spite of rejection and possible ridicule from others.
3. Their dedication to God and what they believe to be true about him.
4. Their concern for the spiritual welfare of people.
5. Their tenacity that makes me keep thinking and sharpening my position.

Nice observations. I agree with them.

But I am going to make a prediction here... This thread won't last long... UNLESS it turns from "What I love about conservatives" to "What I DON'T like about conservatives."

The same can be said for moderates, as well as Liberals.:party
Get over it and stop letting them make you feel less or more unworthy than God says you are.

Liberals and mods rock too, and for the same reasons.

Thank you for these encouraging and affirming words, Sister.

It's high time people stopped feeling like they need to say anything kind about conservatives.

1) I agree for the most part

2) I agree although I quite often note a "persecution complex" in many, meaning that they feel they are being persecuted for Christ by the mere act of disagreeing with them.

3) Many ARE. Many are NOT. Many are much more dedicated to their "list".

4) Some are. Some are far more concerned with control (although most of them will not even admit it to themselves).

5) I agree nearly 100% here. (But even on this point, there are SOME who do nothing but spout various party lines and never offer any backing and never respond to a challenge... See item #2.)

The persecution complex is not nearly as annoying as the prosecution complex.

Re: What I love about conservatives...

All in all, there are two distinct definitions of "conservative" as it relates to the church. One kind is very good (as it relates to the initial post) and the other is very bad.
For instance, some of the most "conservative" people I know would be considered flaming liberals by many definitions and other "conservatives" I know need to be called by their rightful name, pharisees.

I'm considered conservative by some because I believe the new birth is the baptisms, water and Spirit. But as for "holiness dress" standards, I follow an individual conviction approach.

I just leave other folks in Gods hands. I finally figured out it's * Not My Job* :)
I do have my *Special Prayer List* though and I've added several to it since joining here at AFF. :praying

Yep, it already happened. And of course with the usual disclaimers. Can't have a nice list of qualities because that would make some that aren't conservative really have to look at their attitudes.

I speak only for myself. When I say 'conservative' in this context I am referring to the 'holiness standards' continuum. In my book the godhead and salvation issues are not related to the 'holiness standards' thing. So, by my estimation, you can be an OP, three-step person and be either liberal or conservative or anything in between. You can be a trinitarian, one-step person and be liberal or conservative or anything in between as well. I don't connect the two, although I know that some people do.

{BTW: I talked to a trusted spiritual advisor today about what you and I were discussing earlier. Interesting.}

Everybody touch your neighbor and say "Miz is the bomb!" :)

True, true. I agree with everything you're saying here. I do keep in mind however, that even among the Pharisees there were those who believed in Christ. Those are my spiritual kin. And there were many among the hookers and cheats who believed. They're my kin too. Please understand, I'm agreeing w/you here and attempting to support what you're saying.

My personal point in starting this thread was to confess that my attitude has changed toward my conservative spiritual kin folk. I'm beginning to weigh them more in terms of their good qualities than their negative ones. Well, most of them anyway. It's a process.

So I would say #2 and #5 don't seem as true anymore. It seems that unless everyone thinks like them or unless they are the majority they run away and THEN claim the board is not conservative enough.

What I love about conservatives...

1. Their dedication to their beliefs.
2. Most love the Lord and try to live pleasing as they have been taught before Him.
3. They are faithful (most) to what they proclaim.
4. They are willing to face criticism over their stances.

I am no conservative, but I love the conservatives.

I am a Christian. I am as the believers were called in the scriptures, identified by those outside the realm of the faithful as being likened unto Jesus Christ and His Apostles. I need no other label than that of His.

My only problem with a statement like this is that it *usually* means that if I don't agree with you on certain standards it's just because I'm not as far along in my walk with the Lord as you. I'm not saying that's what you mean.

I'm just saying that all too often, that's the way it's been put to me. "As you grow in the Lord, God will guide you and before long you'll be putting those (pants, earrings, make-up, etc) aside and it won't even be a painful thing to do"

This is true, but this thread is not about moderates and liberals.
It's about what APOMO likes about conservatives.
