What you thought was said

I can remember as a child growing up that we sang songs in church and they sometimes did not make sense until one day you finally grow up.

songs with words like:

I'm in the Lords army, I'm in the Lords army. I may never march in the impuntree, ride in the calgery.....

or my mom's song as a girl, the song had words like:

On Jesus Christ you candy pants.....

Do you remember any song(s) that you totally were devoted to singing and when you grew up you realized you had been singing it wrong all that time?

When my son was 2 he sang,
"He's my rock, my sword, my sheild.
He's my wheel in the middle of the wheel.
He's the lily of the valley
And the one horse open sleigh."

I can see that from a two year old.

One of my ex-SIL thought the Bible verse about children obeying your parents was:
Children oh, pea your pants. Till she said it one day in front of the whole church and they laughed at her. Said she never wanted to get up in front of the church again.

Temptations, hidden snares,
often take our underwear
and our hearts are made to bleed
for each thoughtless word and deed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I wouldn't take nothing for my jersey cow
gotta make it to the barn somehow
though the devil tempts me
and he tries to turn me around.................
(those are both ones we sang as teens tho. Nothing innocent about us :) )
We used to sing this chorus and I had no idea I had said this until my mother found a tape I had recorded and this is how I sang the song! I was about 6 when I recorded on the tape but we didn't find the tape until I was about 16!
Sing Hallelujah
Lord God Almighty
He is Jehova
Lord God Almighty
Sing Hallelujah
for the God the chewed my beans (for the God that healeth me)
The old song "Come and Dine"!
Instead of "Jesus fed the multitude", I always sang "Jesus fed the mustard to ' em"!
As a rebellious young man, when the song, Do Not Pass Me By was sang in church...instead of singing "while on others thou art calling, do not pass me by", my brothers and I sang "while on others thou art calling, do not eat my pie".....and to think...God loves me anyway!!!
Blessings! :kickcan
One brother that attended the church of my youth always wondered why we sang a song about Tea.
"Isn't Tea Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful..."
")
My daughter used to sing...
I feel good, good, good
I feel good down in my soul
shukaluklukaluka Jesus
Makes me feel good, good, good.
LOL
She was about 2 or 3.
The words are supposed to be "There's something 'bout the love of Jesus"
Oh, let us have a little talk with Jesus
Let us tell Him all about our troubles
He will hear our famous cry...
Oh, wait. Isn't this about what we sung AS CHILDREN???
This song was and IS STILL sung by a man who is now in his 40's! LOL!
We'd laugh everytime he was songleader because we knew what was coming up!
We had a man in the church I grew up in that was like that. I can not remember exactly what song it was but when I do I'll post it. He was even a singer at ABI when he was younger. It was funny to have him lead worship service because you knew that he was going to sing songs with the wrong words. He even have them start playing one song and then he would start singing another song to it.
