A Grandfather's Nightmare!!!

On Saturday night, Mrs. Pianoman and I were allowed to babysit our two month old granddaughter. We planned to bring her to church to meet up with her mom and dad the next morning.

We got her all ready and snugly into her carrier. My job was to carry her down a flight of steps to our garage and Mrs. Pianoman would carry her diaper bag and other belongings.

I was beginning o carry her down the wood steps when my foot slipped and I lost my balance. Me and the baby went tumbling down about 15 steps onto a concrete floor.

My first instinct was to protect the baby as best as I could. I didn't let her go untill I got close to the bottom of the steps. I tried to let her down and did a somersault over the top of her so she would land on me.

Mrs. Pianoman was right behind us and I heard her screaming, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!"

Well....the baby is fine, but I'm not! We took the baby with me to the emergency room. We were concerned about a possible concussion, but she showed no signs of problems. Thank God for very protective car seat carriers.

As far as me, I think the somersault actually kept me from breaking any bones! I thought my leg and back were possibly broken, but xrays showed that I was very lucky. I am bruised heavily all over my body, but thank God for pain medication!

My left shoulder, my back, and my right knee and in very bad shape today, but thank the Lord that the baby is fine! I have been ordered to rest my back for the next 3 or 4 days.

I have lived in my home for ten years, and this was the first time that I lost my footing. I have made a committment that I will no long carry any children down those steps again! I'll carry them out the front door and walk them around the house!

I sneaked over to the computer so that you all would know what's happened to me, and say a prayer for a quick recovery! :)

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I'm so thankful that it turned out as good as it did! I cringe when I think about how many times I've carried my other grandchildren down those same stair when they weren't in a car seat!

I know that God was looking out for me yesterday!

I can't stay here long because it's very painful for me to sit up! God bless!

Goodness! So sorry you and the baby had to go through that!

During the late sixties, I fell down a flight of basement steps when I was seven and a half months pregnant. The baby was fine, but I sure wasn't. I think I still ache from it!

Eisenhower.

Also, Berk his steps do have railing. When your hands are full you tend to not use it.

You are a hero!

I sure hope you mend quickly.

Those carriers throw people off balance in ways that are hard to predict. I'm always nervous carrying kids up or down stairs - even though I get plenty of practice! I've had some scares, but no falls more severe than missing the running board on the van.

God blessed you with good reflexes. Now let him bless you with good relatives.

Give up the drinking while you have the grandkids, PM. It is just too dangerous. On the real, it is good to hear that all are well-no major damages. It may have been a great thing that Mrs. Pianoman was saying "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus." He is right there in the nick-of-time.

Look it up, son. Look it up. That's what I tell my kids all the time! That's the reason God created the internet, ya know!

Pianoman, I'm happy to hear that the baby is fine and that you didn't break anything. I am distressed to hear that you are in such pain tho, so I'll pray for a fast recovery. God can fix the sore spots. If he created them without bruises, He can restore them to that same state :)
