God or Spouse ?

1 Corinthians 7:15
15 But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace.

Anyone ever had to fall back on this verse ?

Is there peace to be found ?

Inspiration ?

I have known a few men who lost spouses when they started going to church. They are all remarried to women in the church and have children with them. They have as much peace with it as can come from the breakup of a marriage.

This scripture speaks of more than just a person in or out of a church by our standards. If a person wants out of a marriage then they become the unbeliever and the believer is not under bondage or bound to the contract if the other seeks out.

Is it true that an unbelieving spouse can actually be saved by a believer? It seems to say that.....

Not sure I agree completely but I do know many who hold that train of thought.

Yes they can. It happened to us. My bride got into Church and I followed later because I didn't want to cause her distress. Then I got the Holy Ghost.

I interprete it as revolving around peace.

If you can still live together and there be peace, then you should.

If not, then it is actually better to split.

How much peace is actually possible when scripture states a house divided can not stand.

They won't be saved just because you are, it means you have to live the christian life before them and they will have a desire to have the walk with God that you do, but just because we are saved we can't take them to heaven on our salvation alone.

Mosby, true in your case, when the unbeliever eventually becomes a believer. But I dont think RW is speaking of that... I think he means if they can be saved simply because of the salvation of the spouse. In that case, I would say no! The unbeliever would first have to come to a place of faith, and conversion, in order to be saved. BUT, with a believing spouse and faithful example, that path might be paved and easier to travel (not in all cases though) for the unbelieving spouse (as in Mosby's example)...

reads that you can move on if the unbelieving spouse departs.... does NOT allow you to leave the unbelieving spouse...

not completely related... wot is that scripture that says something about parents sanctifying the children...
