Why Is AFF Going Down EVERY NIGHT?
 

Can someone please explain why it is that AFF has been going down EVERY NIGHT? It has done this every night this week. I get bored at night and sometimes catch up on threads late at night. This site has been out of commission every night this week and I haven't been able to do that.

Seriously, the owners graciously have made this site available for mine and others benefit & I am thankful for that.

I think that maintenance is being done at night.

It's a server thing. GNC goes down as does www.apostolic.net

They are hosting us so whatever they are doing with their servers it affects us. Perhaps they are doing server upgrades

This is a funny story. I lived in a pastor's home some years ago. He didn't allow reading at the table. One morning I was tilting my head to read a cereal box. I heard him clear his throat. :toofunny

As I said, they host us.

Most web pages are on some hosting companies shared server. This means that if you have a lot of user traffic it will crawl to a halt.

If you are a business owner or running a web business and you make websites for others you might lease or rent a dedicated server. That server is "all yours" and in that case you might host several websites on that server. Think of servers like this....there is some provider somewhere that has a room full of computers all connected to the internet. On some of those servers they host many websites. They have then some other servers they can lease to you to do the same.

In order to lease or rent our own server it would cost a LOT of money.

John Atkinson was kind enough to host us on one of his servers. I'm sure he's doing all he can to get the problems fixed.

However, If you're interested in purchasing a server for AFF to be hosted on-- I know where there's one available at a great price-- I just don't plan on draining what savings I have to purchase one. :D

Every single night? This is something new, Prax. Up until a week ago this wasn't happening every night. If they have to do server upgrades every night they should have the most up to date server on the internet by now. :)

The fact that they ARE happening at night routinely should be a good indication that there is something happening server side.

I have talked with Bro. A and the server was being hacked at night - he added some super dubber hack blocker that causes it to be down each early morning from 1:30 - 7:30 a.m.

He's still working to iron out the bugs, but protect us from hackers.

Please be patient.

LOL!!! I would have had to live on the street. Reading while I am eating is one of my pleasures in life. Now if there are other people at the table I don't do it as I also enjoy conversation but I have to have something to read (usually a magazine or newspaper) if I am eating alone.

I doubt most of the world even knows about us...we are causing hardly a dent on the world scheme. There are more Baptists and Trinitarians out causing havoc for non-Christians than anything else. A more likely target would be Phelps

You don't need to be a hacker to post anything on this board. A hacker is someone that usually tries to break into the security of the server to install a virus or a back door or a zombie code so they can use it for DOS attacks or to replace entire websites with their own content or just edit a webpage with pictures or content.

For a kiddie hacker I can see that...however kiddie hackers are novices and usually only hit the very unsecure sites. A real hacker has no real reason to hit our site unless we were very VERY popular like the Wall street Journal
