Someone has updated the Dottie Rambo Wikipedia page with this news. I know that they have people there who just watch for obituaries and death notices and update as soon as news breaks.
Here is the only news report that I've been able to find. http://www.fortmilltimes.com/124/story/160359.html So sad. |

Just one of those things you don't believe at first...
We should share some of our favorite songs of hers. I have memories of my dad singing this at bedtime, during his prayer time. I’VE NEVER BEEN THIS HOMESICK BEFORE Writer Dottie Rambo There's a light in the window And the table's set in splendor Someone's standing by the open door (open door) I can see a crystal river Oh I must be near forever And I've never been this homesick before Chorus: See the bright light shine It's just about hometime I can see my Father standing at the door This world has been a wilderness I'm headed for deliverance Lord, I've never been this homesick before I can see the family gather Sweet faces, there all familiar But no one's old or feeble anymore Oh this lonesome heart is cryin' Think I'll spread my wings for flyin' Lord, I've never felt this homesick before |

This is so sad- She was a favorite of mine. I have a cd of her songs that Bill Gaither did and I enjoy listening to them so much. You do not realize how she influnced gospel music until you listen to the songs she wrote. "Mama's Teaching Angels how to Sing" now. I pray for her family.

Re: Dottie Rambo Killed in Bus Accident due to Sto
this accident happened about a block from where my Biological sister lives well.. a mile but out there its pretty rural so what would be considered a city block... they were told that 2 died in the accident also but thats neither here nor there... its just sad all around. When I called my mom and told her who it was that was in the accident she was shocked... Said that would explain why everythings so crazy out there right now... they were however under the impression this happened after the tornado hit but they arent sure... she said there is so much debris in the road they may have even swerved to avoid and hit something... ..
My grandmothers house (which now belongs to one of my aunts) was destroyed right by where the accident occured and they said that there is debris from the house all over the place and parts of the house everywhere there. It happened right outside of Purdy nearer to Mt Vernon. |
Re: Dottie Rambo Killed in Bus Accident due to Sto
Well, at least she made her mark in this world, that's for sure.

Re: Dottie Rambo Killed in Bus Accident due to Sto
I just saw this sad news on the internet and knew there would be a thread at AFF about it.
As someone mentioned it is just such a shocking way for someone 74 years old who has endured such incredible pain with her back problems to die. Dottie blessed the family of God with a lot of powerful songs over the years. Anybody 40 or older knows that from the 60's through the 70's Dottie was one of the most prolific writers in Gospel Music. I would love to go to her funeral if it is here in Nashville but I am going to be out of town most of next week unfortunetely. I will be praying for Reba, her ex husband Buck, and the rest of the family. |

I have so many of the Rambo records. Some great songs - have sung many of them through the years.. Every once in a while still have to get the old LPs out and listen.
A sad and tragic situation.... she will be missed. |
Re: Dottie Rambo Killed in Bus Accident due to Sto
I can only pray that Dottie didn't suffer. I hope she was asleep and never woke up.
We need to also remember to pray for all of the other people on the bus who all survived but are hospitalized with morderate to severe injuries. There was a total of seven people or seven people in addition to Dottie on the bus. I also can't help but think what a horrible Mother's day for Reba to wake up to. |

Re: Dottie Rambo Killed in Bus Accident due to Sto
How very sad.
Now, I was never a super big Rambo fan even when I was a youngster. But "The Singing Rambos" were such a part of our lives at JCM back in the days when southern gospel was king. I've come to appreciate her music more now that I'm older. Many of her songs were more "country gospel", but her soul and heart shone through what she wrote and sang, her Kentucky roots like Loretta Lynn's, or the east Texas piney woods that gave birth to such a great artist as George Jones or the north Alabama roots of Howard and Vestal Goodman. Dottie, like the others, sang from the heart and captured in their music the true spirit of America, the Kentucky coal miner, the truck driver - the heart, soul, joy and pain of every day living and the hope of something better in the world to come. The song of hers I'm thinking of right now is one that I'd normally think "corny" but it doesn't seem so corny right now - "Mama's Teaching Angels How To Sing" ... |
