Dottie Rambo's Funeral

I just got back home from Dottie Rambo's funeral at Christ Church Nashville today.

It was a wonderful "Home-Going Celebratoin" of the woman and her music. I felt completely emotionally drained by the end of the 2 1/2 hour service as song after song she had written was sung in tribute.

I was a child and teenager when Dottie Rambo was at her peak and since I was a fan of contemporary Gospel music rather than Southern Gospel I didn't realize what a huge impact she had made on my life until I started hearing all of her songs again a few years ago.

This thread isn't meant to be a theological debate about whether or not Dottie Rambo is in heaven.

However if it makes you feel any better she started out UPC and definitely was baptized in Jesus name and received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

You need to come here more! There is a 25 page thread titled "Dottie Rambo Dies In Bus Accident" now on page two of the fellowship hall with several hundred posts and over 8,000 views if I remember correctly.

This is not the time to attempt to start a debate of this nature. Let's just leave her in the hands of a just God. He will decide her eternal destination, not us.

Consider this formal warning that if you (or anyone else) wishes to disrupt this thread with such discussion, necessary action will be taken by admin for disruption of the forum.

Just when I thought I'd seen the best of classlessness, here you come to take away the trophy.

Is God still on the throne, or have you thrown Him off by now?

CC, I only knew her by name and that my mom had a record of hers, yet I'm familiar with so many of her songs and knowing how famous she was in the gospel music industry. That said, the rundown of the service made me wish I'd been there.

Her and her husband started in the United Pentecostal Church in the 1950's and 1960's.

Then they moved on.

Was she saved?

Yes she was saved...

Re: Dottie Rambo's Funeral

The older recordings of The Rambos really have a neat sound to them much like the country recordings of that period, music wasn't slicked up like it is today.
The old nashville studio musicians of that day had a great more simplistic sound.
Too much too gain to lose is a classic.
There is some great upright bass playing on those recordings.

I see admin chooses favoritism by not intervening, in regards to your insults.

LOL!!!! I thought the same thing. I don't know the whole story but I do know that somehow they became friends and that when Lily Tomlin's mom was in the hospital with I think cancer Dottie would visit and sing to her and make her laugh, etc. I also think she sang at Lily's mom's funeral or some other family member. Lily Tomlin presented Dottie with an award a year or two ago. I can't remember exactly what but it might have been for the Kentucky Hall of Fame.

CC, I am thinking that as it was a Gaither type choir, it probably was indeed JD, and the female soloist may have been: if younger than JD, Linda Randle...older, maybe Lillie Knauls...just guessing.

Wish I could have been there...

I think you are probably right. I couldn't really see the woman well enough to gauge her age.

I had not seen Jesse Dixon for many years (he featured the World of Pentecost Choir on an album back in the 8o's) but I am pretty certain it was him.

My day started out crazy and it looked like or awhile I would not be able to go but I did and I am really glad. It brought back so many memories of my childhood and teen years and was also such a blessing to hear those great songs sung by some of the best singers in the world.

Well, Linda Randle is kinda short, or appears that way, and her voice is rather deep (lower in range than Lillie Knauls), and LK always wears a hat...
