Roger Evans

For anyone who may be familiar with Bro Roger Evans in Florida, I heard he passed away the other day. For those of you that may not have known him he was an evangelist, pastor, and singer extrodinaire. You could hardly understand him sometimes when he was just talking but let him pick up a mic and start to sing or preach and he became as clear as could be.
Please keep his wife, family, and church family in your prayers.

The funeral will be next Thursday. He was a brilliant Bible teacher and a wonderful singer. His hairlip did not stop him.

You are so right about that Elder...He was awesome. My husband asked if he was AMF?

I am so very sorry to hear that...he preached a lot here back in the day. He had the sweetest little wife and a host of children as I recall.

Thank you for letting us know...

No he has not been in the AMF since the 80's.

And those kids were as rotten ornery as he was. I loved it when he would come preach for us. He was the funniest man. I have so many stories of him and his kids. Dear God they kept us in stitches. most of his kids are older than me but they were as funny as was.

You are right the minute he picked up that mic and started singing or preaching you would not know he even had a hairlip. Talk to him one on one and it sure showed.

The song I remember most was 'Power in the pulpit and action in the pew' that was not the name I am sure but those words are the ones I remember most of the song.

He always called my older brother, Butterball. We had a bird and it learned to say 'Butterball' Just like Bro Evans. My brother hated that bird.

This info is second and third hand, but my mom's best friend in LA and said that Sis. Evans phoned her...

The funeral is next Thurs. as reported here as an autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.

I heard the same about the funeral. I had also been told he had a heart attack about a year ago and has been in poor health every since. He was a wonderful and will be missed.

Did he belong to an organization?

According to what Sis. Evans told Sis. Davidson, who told my mom, Bro. & Sis. E and a young minister from their church were traveling West, and stopped their motor home for the night.

When Bro. E didn't return from taking a shower, the minister went to see what was wrong, but he had already passed. My guess is his heart...

His son, Aaron, will assume the role of pastor...when they held revivals here, I always helped with the kids and Aaron was my favorite.

That was many, many years ago...

Amen...:tissue

I got up at 5 a.m., went to the Farmer's Market, and came back to make breakfast for mom, and a brother and SIL.

I'm relating my morning agenda to say that while cooking, I put on the old 25th Anniversary recording of the Singing Rambos...what great old songs and nice memories.

It is truly a loss in the sense that they are no longer with us in the flesh, but in the warm memories of revivals with Bro. Evans, and the good feeling that Dottie's great music brings, they will forever be with us.

The loss for family is separation, and I know this feeling in the death of my daddy. But it is my prayer for them that the memories and hope of a resurrection will sustain them.

I had heard that Aaron was already taking care of things so that would not be a surprise.

Aaron has been home for a couple of years now the Elder has been so sick so Aaron has done most of it. He is a good man and preacher.

Just seems incredible to me...I only know and remember the sweet little boy.

I just spoke to Aaron he said they have not gotten to see his Dad yet, only Sis. Evens after he died. They had to go do all the formalizing he said that was hard.
The preachers speaking at the funeral so far are Elders Gilmer, Garrett, Rose, Cavaness.
