Apple VS PC
Ever since I owned my first computer in 96 I have been a PC guy.
I have been hearing a lot about Macs or Imacs as they are called. I went to the store & I had a sales rep demonstrate the new models for me. I am being won over! They are nice equipment, easy to use & can even accommodate a Windows O/S for those applications that need Windows to operate. Anyone else use a Mac? How have you found it? I was really surprised to learn that the hard drive, and speakers are built into the 20 inch monitor!! I will probably replace my computer this year & give this one to my kids. I am leaning towards a Mac!!!:bliss |

Re: Apple VS PC
I finally made the jump to light speed and bought my first Mac. I got a MacBook Pro and am absolutely delighted with it. It just WORKS! No more blue screen of death! No more lock up from windows programs. But, wait, I can still run Windows programs by loading VMWare and running Windows in a window. I am sold. Once you go Mac, you never go back!!! As soon as the new Iphone comes out in a few weeks, I will be getting rid of my Treo and getting an Iphone to sync perfectly with my MacBook Pro.
Needless to say, I like Mac a lot now and I have been a PC man for decades! :D |

Re: Apple VS PC
LOVE MY MAC! LOVE MY MAC! LOVE MY MAC! Why? Because it's just....GREAT! It can do so much and you can do so much with it from publishing to media! I have a missionary friend that published his own book using his MAC!
RE: HD problems. Well, I HAD HD problems. Mine went "wacky" on me less than 6 months after I bought it. Called Apple; did the "tech support" thing. Which by the way, is so much better than any others I have experienced. Anyway, after sending the Mac in a total of three times (never DID get that weird computer fixed) They sent me a BRAND NEW laptop, upgraded to Leopard (I bought Tiger) and even upgraded me to the fastest speed available. It was inconvenient when I didn't have my Mac, but, I have a laptop at the church, so I still had computer capability. But, the benefit outweighed the inconvenience. PLUS, all the S&H was FREE! They send the shipping materials and everything. I use the foam packing to transport my cakes! LOL I LOVE MAC!! Beth |

In the FWIW department- I worked for a couple of years doing Tier II support for the warranty reps from Service Net. Service Net is the extended warranty provider in a large number of retailers like Best Buy, Circuit City, MicroCenter and the like. Also, for PCMall and MacMall. Despite the advertising, Macs "go south" at similar rates as PCs - though the overheating problems that come up in most PC clone laptops don't seem to occur as much with Macs. But all the little stuff like the AC Adapter connection and the flex cable to the monitor screen all fail at the same rates. |
Re: Apple VS PC
In my job I am responsible for maintaining about 40 Macs, towers, iMacs, Macbooks, Mac minis.
In the last 3 years I have only had 2 quit on me. The iMac is a little hard to work on or upgrade. I'm not a big fan of them. If you're trying to keep the costs down look at a Mac Mini. You get a lot for your money, however they are tough to get into to upgrade. |
Re: Apple VS PC
Funny, but my Windows XP Pro desktop NEVER "blue screens". Occasionally an application will stop responding, but the OS is rock solid.
It is also nice to have the software availability.... Every store carries PC software. Easy to buy online and download. And something for everything. |

Plus, fixing other people's problems is easy with XP. But I guess you don't make money selling one nearly flawless OS, you've got to mess people up to make them pull out their credit cards. |
Re: Apple VS PC
Until you break down and start using one, you will never understand. All of that PC excuse/hype/software issues will be thrown out the window. It is totally fine with me if no one else chooses to cross over, I have my Macs, I am thrilled with them, I would only use a PC to stabalize my furniture, or block some tires. But...that is just me.

Re: Apple VS PC
I didn't have much trouble with a Windows machine either until I started using video, still, web, publishing etc. items. Not all at the same time, but when I tried to use a few of them at the same time........blue screen of death time!!!! Got tired of it. God tired of MS telling me to reformat my HD all the time. Just got tired of the whole thing. Not so now. I am still doing the same things with the greatest of ease and a zillion times less trouble. :D

For whatever reason Adobe Acrobat seems to be as big, or bigger, of a resource hog then even their own Premier Pro which is their massive video suite. As for having to format, I am not sure why that would always be required. Macs and PC's use the same hard drive hardware. I WILL admit that PC's require the occasional defragging, but that is a once or twice a year procedure which takes a few hours overnight to accomplish. |
