Reminds me of when I used to visit my family in Maryland. My aunt had a bird/squirrel feeder in back....of course it was really a bird feeder the squirrels took advantage of. Tree squirrels are a crack up. They run up and down the tree like cockroaches on speed. Then when they get into a fight it's hilarious.

Here we only have ground squirrels except up in the mountains

Margies3 03-20-2007 12:41 PM

In our town it is really funny. We have these red squirrels all over town. Everywhere!! they are abundant!

But we also have a couple handsful of black squirrels. They are smaller. And nastier. They can be VERY nasty in fact. But they stay in a little 4 block corner of town. They never cross Main Street. They never, ever leave their little territory. There's a great big world out here and they don't know a thing about it because they stay holed up in their little area. Kinda sad.

A few miles from where I grew up they had white squirrels. When we went to visit my great grandpa we would sit outside and look for them.

Squirrels are cute but they drive me nuts when they eat all my bird food in an hour.

Destiny2 03-20-2007 01:25 PM

I have some grey squirrels you can have ,they wont stay out of the bird feeders and are very saucy to boot!

Tina 03-20-2007 01:26 PM

Squirrels are cute from a distance. They aren't cute when they get in your attic... :D

Is he albino, or just white? How cute!!

I know I'm strange, but I love the squirrels. One year I had one so tamed he would come and sit by me and eat out of my hand.

Praxeas 03-20-2007 01:52 PM

Squirrels are really rats with long bushy tails

Scott Hutchinson 03-20-2007 01:56 PM

I have squirrels in my yard often.

We don't - we don't have much of anything since our dogs like to chase them out.

White. I love watching squirrels. When my 2nd son was 3 he would watch them out the window. He couldn't talk real well and so when he came running yelling "Momma! I saw a boy girl!" we had no clue what he meant! What he meant is he saw a boy squirrel....:slaphappy

I had a dog that would go crazy when the squirrels would walk on the power line over head.

One day a squirrel fell out on the road dead and I picked him up.

He was still warm and I propped him up on the Pickett fence and then called the dog.

My dog saw the squirrel, let out a spooked woof and ran away!

Stupid dog.

According to my mom...the red squirrls are taking over and the grey's are dying out...don't know if that is so...I have one grey that lives across the street...his tail is huge!!!

I remember growing up in East Texas and my kinfolk would hunt and eat squirrels. They would fry them or put them in dumplings.

Squirrels, deer, rabbit and wild pigs were common place on our table. Did any of you ever eat squirrel meat?

Squirrel is one of my favorite foods. Young squirrel, deep fried, with eggs, and cathead biscuits and gravy is great! Better than chicken.

ah great, yet another squirrelly thread.

You must be from the south, Rhoni. Cathead biscuits with gravy was what my auntie use to cook on Sunday mornings to get me out of bed so I would go to church...good memories and GOOD biscuits!

Actually, we ate alot of squirrel - and rabbit, pheasant, venison, and bear when we were kids. We also ate SOME possum - yuck! Not good stuff. We ate frog legs anytime my dad went fishing and came upon some big old bullfrogs. In the fish line, we usually had walleye. Once a year dad would go to Michigan and fish for Coho. And smelt. We'd get that once a year, too. I'm not a big fan of fish of any kind, so none of those were my favorites.

I really never liked squirrel or rabbit. I LOVE pheasant and venison. Bear's not great either, but cooked right, it's tolerable once in a great while.

And ONCE my dad got ahold of some walrus that a friend brought him. It really wasn't all that horrible.

chosenbyone 03-20-2007 08:35 PM

I take it you're not from the south, Margie? I never thought of eating bears or walruses. You don't see many of those where I grew up. Thanks for sharing. By the way, where did you grow up?

When I was little, my dad hunted squirrel and we ate it fried quite a lot. My husband thinks that's so gross (and HE grew up in Africa!!). When I was 12, we built a house out in the country, and we had a bunch of squirrels in the woods behind our house where we could watch them every morning. After that, my dad couldn't kill them anymore; I guess he is just a big softie at heart!

Yeah....but what if someone else kills them for him? Or...if he had cows out back would he still eat cow? :slaphappy

Uhhhh.....he could probably overlook the cow and still eat the burgers!! I think his soft-heartedness has its limits.
