What If Your Church Board Told You "Get In The UPC Or Leave?"

I believe that I would request a business meeting for discussion. If it were clear that the majority wanted a UPC pastor and I didn't want to join, rather than cause a split, I would simply leave.

I went through a similar situation. When I signed the AS for the last time, I told the church I pastored that I would not be signing again and that they had 1 year to decide if they wanted a UPC pastor or change the by-laws. 1 year later, they decided 100% to change the by-laws.

Is the SUP the new separated UPC?:toofunny

From everthing I have read. I would attend a church you pastor if we lived in the same town.

I am expecting the Christ Church board to place Pastor Hardwick in this situation just any day now!

No problem. Neckstadt may be willing to come and take the "survivors" and start a church across the street. (He may prefer Seattle's Best, though.):toofunny

I think in my last survey there were 14 people at Christ Church who even knew what the UPC is other than a pricing code. (LOL)

Where most exUPC churches feature exUPC music folks only our choir director has a UPC background. Our music dept. head and the praise and worship leader have a Church of God and Assembly of God background.

A lot of that is from our close association with the Church of God Lee University. A lot of Lee alumni who move to Nashville and get jobs attend CC.

LaVonne 03-21-2007 07:32 AM

What if you're in the UPC, you tell your pastor that you're moving and he says "Good!"? I'm thinking this is a bad sign?! :toofunny

Oh yeah and bash them every chance I got.

As people walked in the church on Sunday, I would shout over a mega-phone.

FYI, for those of you that don't know. SUP stands for

Shut
Up
and then something that rhymes with tick.

It is a carry over from WordShare.

Well what do you know. And here all along I thought SUP was an abbreviation of "Whassup".

What's up with that?

nathan_slatter 03-21-2007 09:20 AM

Well... since I don't have a board and will probably never have a board, I can't give an exact answer.

But I will say this, I'm not one for ultimatums. So, I would tell them that I'm not getting in the UPC and if they wanted me to leave they should sharpen the pitchforks, lite the torch, and create a mob mentality.

By then they would all turn their heads and say to their husbands.

He's going from there to board meetings at a church in Chicago where he serves on the advisory board, so I'm not coming with him. Although I would love to visit with everyone again.

I hate church boards so I'd tell them they are replaceable and go on.

Seems like some people don't like church boards because they don't like to be accountable.

No doubt there are bad situations.

Re: What If Your Church Board Told You "Get In The

I knew of a church that had a board and they decided that the pastor of 20 plus years was getting to much money (really the pastor did chose the ast. that they wanted). So they held a secret meeting, only one member went and told the pastor. Pastor let the meeting get under way and then walked in and dismissed the board. That church has not had a board since.
