Bethany Church - Baker, LA

Does anyone know anything about Bethany Churches in and around Baton Rouge? My son and the other boy who lives with me are planning to attend a youth conference there in a week or so. Their youth group is HUGE (7000). Zac and Rodney love to hear these guys preach, and they are not greasy-grace guys at all; they are hardcore for Jesus.

Someone told me that the Stockstill's baptize in Jesus' name. Anyone know if this is true?

Been there a couple of times. Pastor Larry Stockstill is a great guy. This is the church Ted Haggard was before he went to Colorado Springs. Pastor Larry was on his board and is still on his accountability team. This is a great church. You'll learn some good things. It was built on cell groups and they have sent numerous people to start churches and as missionaries as well. Enjoy!!! :D

Bethany has a great reputation in the BR area. They have been an established church for about 40 years in this area. They have several campuses which are thriving churches. I have heard that Br. Stockstill baptizes in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost which is Jesus, but I do not know that for a fact. Br. Stockstill's son just lost his wife to cancer- I think- she was in her early 20's. They are not greasy grace at all.

Well, I'm not going; just the boys and possibly our Jr. High Youth Pastor. But the two boys are going whether he goes with them or not. They are 19 and 21 and are big fans of Joel Stockstill and Judah Smith.

Yes, my daughter heard Joel preach about a month after his wife died, and he talked about it. It was really sad. I think he preached her funeral too.

I'd send my youth in a heartbeat without any reservations! :D

Speaking of reservations, I could not find any hotels that weren't full. I finally found one about 13 miles away in Baton Rouge. Nearly everything else I checked in Baton Rouge was already to capacity. I assume this is going to be a huge conference!

Sherri,

The only think I konw about Bethany in BR is that there is a Charismatic church (Christian Life Church) here in Murfreesboro, TN pastored by a guy, Ron Kairdolf, who was an asst. pastor there for 6 years before coming to Murfreesboro to pastor his own church in 1994.

It is Christian Life Church. They just got into a beautiful new building that probably seats around 300 in a good location in Murfreesboro.

Here is a link to their website;

The music was good but Bethel Murfreesboro is better. The preaching was fine. Not great not bad. At the end the pastor did have the entire Godhead all talking to each other which is my pet peeve with trinny churches. I was just fine till then! LOL!!!

The people were friendly and it seemed to be a good church.

I had not thought of the church Bethany in a long time. So I went to their church internet site and downloaded a few of their MP3 sermons. There was a sermon by John Bevere tiltled "Honor" that was preached in April of this year. I recommend it to everyone.

I have not finished his book, but "The Bait of Satan" is one of the best book I have ever read. It is akin to "Tale of Three Kings" kinda some of the same topic stuff. Again one of the best books I have read and I ain't even done with it.

My son just called from the youth conference. He said it was the most amazing service tonight he'd ever been in. About 4000 kids were there, and he said probably 70% of them were totally drunk in the Spirit for about a hour. He had never seen anything of this magnitude; he was really pumped about it. He called to ask me if he could spend $60 on the DVD set. Of course a Mom would say YES!! Anytime he wants to spend money on preaching, I will fork it over!

I live in Baton Rouge, I think its a good church. The pastor is very tight with benny hinn. The 7000 youth is a bit of a stretch! When they have things like this many of the other youth groups in the city go to the youth functions, I think this may be where they get that number. I am sure it will be a great conf.

That's very possible about the numbers; that's just the number that I've heard at times. Anyway, it's a HUGE youth group and pretty impressive. I'm glad Zac got to attend.

The church in Marion, Indiana that I visited for a reunion last weekend were sending their youth leaders to a conference in Baton Rouge, LA. I bet this is where they were headed!

Probably....Ashley says that the Stockstill's services are more like old time Pentecost than anything she's been in for years. She went to their conference in Seattle a few months back.

I guess when your youth group is that big, it's hard to count!

I believe the number includes campus ministry! I hear they are very involved with student ministry...

Wasn't this the church that really came through during Katrina?

Bethany is a great church- It has a great reputation in the community. We have several churches that reached out during Katrina- Bethany was one of them. Bethany lets the public schools use their facilities for large meetings and graduations, also.

I really have no idea. I had never heard of Joel Stockstill until my kids heard him at some youth conferences and really got excited about his preaching. I have heard of his dad Larry but I don't know anything about him really. Another guy they listen to all the time is Judah Smith, whose dad is Wendell Smith (I think) who did youth work for years. Judah and Joel were both preaching at this conference Zac drove down to, and they both were in Seattle at the one Ashley went to a few months back.

I listened to Joel's sermon (one and a half hours to teenagers!!!) from the Seattle conference, and it was awesome. He sure didn't mince his words on any subject.

Steve

I am taking a psychology class on alcoholism and yesterday I had to attend an AA meeting and write a paper about it. I was amazed at the testimonies. I know through your testimony here that you had to deal with that addiction. I commend in you the Lord for standing firm in His word. Lord bless you!

LOL! Greasy Grace is what we get accused of by the Ultra Cons on here. Anyone who they think has "gone Charismatic" preaches greasy grace.:reaction
