Ladies - I need color help

Ladies I need help. My sister is getting married in August and she has chosen this olive dress for me to wear. The color looks horrible on me. It makes me look washed out. What (if anything) can you suggest to help this color look better on me. I thought about darkening my hair. I usually keep my hair as my picture shows. I don't know what do do.

You know what, if you think changing your hair color would help you not feel so washed out-

You could go to a wig store and try on a dark wig with the dress and see how it would look, and also try on other colors to see how they would look as well.( I know that sounds funny, but it's one way to check out how different hair colors would look on you)

Plus you could always use a rinse and the color would wash out eventually.

Anyway I believe olive is an autumn color, most autumns are red heads-what about reddish highlights? :dunno

Just thinking out loud.

Since my son's hair color is red, I might could get away with being a red head. lol

Actually, the wig idea is a good idea. I would have never thought of that. I just hate being a different hair color because the pictures will last a life time. :tissue

Too bad you can't talk her into a different color!

Your son's hair color is gorgeous btw, I would love to have that color.

Thanks! I would love to try an auburn hair color but I'm chicken.

Girl, I called her from the bridal shop after trying on the color. At first she had pistachio picked out, and it looked worse than the olive. I called and asked her about Burgundy because she is using sage for everything else and Burgundy and sage would look good together but she sounded so disappointed that I told her it would be okay. Then she said, what about the olive color so I told her that would look better. I got her from pistachio to olive. That was the best I could do. lol If I insisted I couldn't wear the color, she would change it but it is her wedding day so I can suffer one day. lol

Well wearing olive isn't as bad as what my sister did to me, she got married when I was 8 months pregnant and I was the maid of honor.

I just thought of this too-what about those hair extensions that are wisps of color in your hair, I don't know if that would help-but that way you would have your normal hair color just with a few high lights.

I am not a girl but got 2 suggestions. You mentioned one already, coloring the hair to make it darker. Also getting a tan will help. I am not sure if you are a burner or a tanner, but a tan would help. And I am not saying you are pale so don't think that. Any earthy tone looks better on earthier or tan skins. I used to work in mens retail so I know what I am talking about cause this crosses into the female color stuff too.

Well, here's the easy answer - - this ain't about you - - it's about the bride!

LOL!!!!

If you are wearing your hair up, or pulled back at all, it will appear a bit darker. You could also put gel in it which would give it bit of a 'wet' look, which will be darker as well.

Re: Ladies - I need color help

You could also try earthier, warmer make-up color tones.

Like browns, greens, and corals.

Re: Ladies - I need color help

I love that color, but me being a "summer" person I cannot wear it at all!

It's a very pretty dress and I'm sure you'll look good in it!

LOL - I know I am pale. I could do a spray on tan though.

I think a tan would be your best bet.

I think my sister wants us to go have our hair put up so maybe that will help.

My mom picked out the dress. I was shocked because she is conservative. There really isn't much to choose from that doesn't show some skin.

I was going to suggest a tan also. If you don't tan, you can go and get the spray on tan from the tanning salon. They put you in a booth and it sprays the tan on you. (much better than having a person spray you)

There is also the tanning lotions you can use. Jergens Natural Glow daily moisturizer works great.

The last, and only time I used a spray on tan I found that it wears off unevenly, and was definitely too orangy. Of course, this was the over-the-counter, spray in a can kind of stuff. I'm sure it would be different if you had it done professionally. :D

Also, if you wanted to try on different hair colors, my friend used this website before changing her hair color, I thought it was kind of neat!

Good suggestions- I would try a little darker makeup- more rose in the cheeks to help with the color- I look horrible in that color too.

I think I will wear an olive shirt to get my make up done and maybe the makeup artist can help me look better in the color. I think probably only darker skin folks would look good in the color.

Have you tried the lotion on your face? I have used spray and lotion on my legs and arms but not on my face.

It's a fall person's color - that's why it washes you out.

I see. I need to do one of those color things to see what I am. I know light colors like pink really look awful on me too. Hum, I'm just glad the color of the dress isn't pink. lol

Yes, and it works great. Jergens has both face and body tanning lotion. I've used the body lotion on my face before, but it gets pretty orangy pretty quick. I've learned to just stick with the face lotion. :winkgrin

I was not claiming you to be pale-just so you know. If it were I would do the spray on version, but not from the bottle. Those tend to come out orangish and not tanish. There are several options available out there. I live in AZ with Sun-a-plenty and there are TONS of fake bakes here. Spray tans are the quickest and easiest ways to look good.....word to the wise check throughly before choosing one. Some of them spray on and then wipe off. Meaning by the time you get home your clothing has the tan and you no longer do. Again word to the wise

Okay Thanks. I'm going to get some and start using it. Maybe I can get it perfected by the wedding. :bliss

I'd guess you are a Spring. I said earlier than I'm a summer, but I'm a Spring - it's been years since I've seen the color wheel. If I wear the colors under spring - someone always says something about what I have on.

Hey girl... I know its more expensive than the tan-in-a-can but if it doesnt work out the spray at the salons are much much better and they do neck and face too normally... So if you dont like the turn out of the other... go once.. try it and see how you like it and then go right before the wedding*couple of days) and do it again

This is probably the best thing to do. I just don't want my feet to look weird. A friend of mine had the spray on tan done and I could tell by her feet. Everything else looked normal but her feet looked weird. Her toes looked darker than the rest of her feet.

this can happen. also, i've never had this done but my friend did look a bit splotchy all over after hers and they told her at the salon it was b/c she was so pale to start with. i wonder if a nice rub on tan lotion would be better...like a good one from avon or somewhere besides walmart that would just give u a sun kissed glow. there are tons of brands doing this now at department stores too. i would have to agree with opting for the tan or makeup change vs. coloring your hair just for a dress...unless it was a color u loved and could live with for a while! :) p.s. i bet u look better in it than u think anyway.

Well, one thing is for certain. If you plan to try tanning, try it well beforehand to make sure you like the effect. Then when the time comes you can have it done. If you try it for the first time before the wedding and you don't like it... pictures are forever.

When I first read this thread, I thought you need help with hair coloring! A girl in our church colored her hair orange when I was a kid. She meant to color it blond! :toofunny

I have seen blonde ladies hair turn green from the chlorine in a swimming pool. And it is expensive to get those kinds of things corrected but funny to see. :D

Sorry for the hi-jack. I think you could get just a light tan and look great. You would probably look weird if you went too dark.
