Question about sinful clothing

Hey all. Do you all believe it is a sin or wrong to wear clothing from Abercromie and Fitch? What about American Eagle or Ralph Lauren Polo? Tommy Hilfiger?

I dated a girl from a church that the people there could NOT wear any clothing from these places. The preacher even went so far as to say NO underwear (tops or bottoms) from these places. 'It is not holy clothing' or something is what he was saying.

What say ye? Are there any I missed that you are agains?

I wouldn't buy my kids clothes from abercrombie & fitch just because I didn't agree with their advertising - they tried their best to be as close to porn as they could get by with. They have toned it down a bit now, thanks to parents complaining. But their clothes themselves are no more sinful than any other place.

Oh, yes, now I remember something about that. And didn't they support the gays, or is that urban legend?

Apparently his view was that someone would not wear a shirt that says 'Jesus the Christ' then why wear Tommy, Polo, etc. There was a guy from the church that was a good friend of mine and he told me that he would 'never' wear those things with Tommy's name and such, but yet he had a big NIKE Swoosh in the back window of his truck. Go figure

It can cause trouble because it could be seen as identifying with that life style. I do wear their clothing from time to time, though not because of the name sake. I think that the sin factor has little to do with their clothing though the do sell something that if I were a girl I would be scared to wear. I do remember on time in Knoxville I believe I went into one the A&F store and one of the female employees was wear one of their swimsuits as her work out fit. It shocked me cause I was not expecting it. That kinda stuff ought to be kept for a private swim, it was a little too revealing.

I am not sure if they supported gay or not, but I would not let that stop me from wearing something from there unless the shirt said, 'I support Gays'. If we band everything that supported something we are against there would not be alot we could support. My wife bought me a shirt the other day from Target or Walmart. Anyone that knows me will testify that I love the term Champion and the slogan 'I am a Champion' and things like that. The shirt she got me was from the band Queen and it says "We are the Champions". I have always heard that is a gay pride song, but I love the slogan so much that I do not let it bother me.

A & F would be a definite no-no for me. But, most of them do not make clothes in "men's" sizes as they only go to XL, basically a non-issue.

My husband has asked me not to buy from A&F so I don't, but I sure do luv the smells that come out of that store.

Not that I could ever afford it, but Dolce & Gabbana also have extremely "sexy" (obscene, IMO) ads. I certainly will not let my children shop in stores where softcore porn is plastered all over the walls.

I don't think the clothing items are sinful...but obviously the stores are not and do not promote a wholesome atmosphere.

I would say that Victoria's Secret falls into the soft porn as well.

When VS first opened it was classy. I worked there for 5 years. Now, it has become trashy

I canīt remember if I have ever bought any of those name brands but I doubt it. Living so far away and a completely different lifestyle I can share very little on this thread.

I think the best thing to do before you go shopping is pray and the Lord will guide you. You folks are very sweet people to be concerned about these things. I bless you in Jesus Name.

Re: Question about sinful clothing

I don't mind buying clothes from any of those companies. Some of the ads can show a little bit too much but Victoria's Secret sells descent lingerie. Wal Mart sells skimpy lingerie as well as Target. I guess if you are convicted of buying clothes from certain desginers, that's fine as well.

Yea, and I never can pronounce those designer's names anyway. I do like the Tommy hats though. Reminds me of Dr. Suess.

At this one church I used to go to, we stopped wearing anything with the Nike name or symbol on it because Nike was the name of some god in Greek mythology. I thought it was silly, but I went along with it.

I think if you personally choose to not use your money to support a specific company or brand, that's great. To say it is a sin is overstepping, IMO.

I don't think it is a sin to wear clothing from the designers you mentioned above if they were modest apparel. If they were to dress like some of the models on the billboards then it may be sinful.

With that said, I believe if someone bases whether they purchase clothing or not from a designer strictly on their marketing campaign then they would be hard pressed to buy any clothing. Even some of the "low-end" department stores have "racy" ads sometimes.

I certainly do think that we should be careful in whom be patronize with our money, and certainly Christians should wear modest clothing we don't have to be 20 yrs. out of fashion, but male and female should not dress provactive either. If it ain't for sell don't advertise.

Regarding VS...quite frankly, when I walk into an underwear store, I'm pretty much oblivious to the models, etc. However, I wouldn't take my son in there, that's for sure, and wouldn't leave a VS magazine lying around the house!!!!

She's doin' fine! :) I love to sing with her...we don't get too many opportunities. Usually at Thanksgiving, they visit, and we'll sit down at the piano and just go through the hymn book. She has a great ear for harmonies.

Re: Question about sinful clothing

I find very little in the NT. about clothing, basically we dress modest and what's apporiate for the occasion at hand.We shouldn't dress thrashy, neither should we dress like the puritans either.
