I believe his son took the church?? Braizer retired last month as pastor- he was 86 yrs old! wow!!!

I've seen him in person though- he looked 50

Bishop Arthur Brazier, pastor of the Apostolic Church of God, said the pastors felt they needed to let the public know the black church supports Obama.

"The black church was unfortunately brought into this, but the black church has nothing to do with this," Brazier said.

"This has to do with one man and the things that he said. We felt that we had to make a statement along those lines so that people do not feel that the black church was somehow injured by what's going on."

Brazier said many church members had expressed concern about the political impact of the Obama-Wright dispute. "Every African-American I know is concerned. . . . We are concerned that this controversy arose at a most crucial time," he said. "I don't want to crucify Rev. Wright, but his comments were unfortunate."

Bishop Horace Smith, senior pastor of Apostolic Faith Church, said several members of his congregation worried about how the controversy could harm Obama's campaign.

Smith said that if the focus remained on Wright, it could cost the Democratic Party the election.

"I see people every day struggling with health care and education. Do we really care what an ex-pastor said when we're going to choose the leader of the free world? Oh, please! We're not that stupid," Smith said. "And for us to continue to focus on this would be a monumental mistake."

The sad thing about this to me, is this is becoming a race election and NOT an issue election. According the statements you posted here sounds to me like they are supporting Obama because he is black, YET so many forget he is also white. Wonder why folks keep forgetting that?

Furthermore Esther these great men would have probably voted for the Democrat in this race regardless of color ... that's been the trend since FDR.

I posted this in another thread a few weeks ago in a discussion w/ PO:

Black males in America have been voting for white male Presidential candidates since 1868 w/ the passage of the 15th amendment ... although many were disenfranchised during Reconstruction they were subject to poll taxes, grandfather clauses and literacy tests ... they still ALL voted for a white candidate in the general election for the last 140 years ...

Black women along w/ all other women as a bloc have voted for a white male Anglo-Saxon Protestant President since the 1920's ...

Some of these candidates were "qualified" and some were peanut farmers from Georgia.

Now ... let's get to the nitty gritty ...

if black America who has gone though 250 years of being viewed as property ... stripped of their dignity and bred as animals were .... emancipated to win a war and then treated as second class citizens in this nation until 40-50 years ago ...while being lynched, spat upon, and humiliated .... when given the choice between two equally qualified candidates want to go w/ the black candidate because it would make inroads .... in a nation that still struggles w/ having people of color holding the highest offices in the land then ... hey ... more power to them ... I have no problem w/ making that a deciding factor ...

However ... black America will not (any time soon) and has not chosen the President of the United States .... ever ... as the decisive constituency!!!

It will be white America that will decide who will be the next President of the United States ... they are still the majority ... especially if we look at the constituents of the eligible voting electorate ...

Moreover, it will be white American females, like you, who will decide whether Obama is presidential or not ... they are the majority voice in the electorate.

Absolutely true statement ... this statement has nothing to do w/ his support for Obama, which is his right, but genuine concern that the Trinity church fiasco has perhaps lumped all of the black church into one pile ...

It's very likely that prejudiced remarks against black churches in general have been birthed from this one man.

Black churches being the target of racism is not a new thing ... see church burnings of the last few decades.

Smith is obviously distancing the black church from this one man, Wright.

Very misleading title for this thread.

There's nothing anywhere that says Obama is joining the church, only that he'll be going there to speak, and the church's pastor is an Obama supporter.

I'm tired of people putting misleading titles on threads to pull people in, then when we read it, there's nothing in the thread to support what the thread's title implies.

no, but neither is he HAMAS candidate of choice. I am highly skeptical of obama, too many muslim ties, depite his efforts to distance. Any politician will do anything to get in office, it's not like they are full of integrity. I can see Obama getting in office, nd then being very "friendly" towards muslims and satanic, whoops, islamic ideals.

As for McCain, I will vote for Him because he is the lesser of two evils, not because I think He is most qualified to run the country. In fact these are the worst 2 choices there has even been in my lifetime, what a shame that in a country of nearly 300 million that these are the two best we can do. Yuck! I don't think either is qualified.

My point was nothing short of Obama recieving the baptism of the Holy Ghost will get him my vote.

Where have you gone Ron Paul? A nation should be turning their eyes to you.

On a personal level, Obama's choice of church is interesting, but I don't choose who to vote for based on their stated religious persuasion or what church roster roll their name is printed on. Issues and character. That's the bottom line. Too bad we have two lame duck candidates. JM may or may not be the lesser of two evils; I have yet to decide, much to the shock of my husband.
