Just an interesting sidenote - one meaning of "effeminate" is catamite...which according to Wikipedia (my new favorite resource!) is "...the younger partner in a pedaristic relationship between two males, a popular arrangement in many areas of the ancient world."

Miss B - those would be the scriptures I would use too.

And, no Deut. doesn't mean I shouldn't wear pants made for a woman. That scripture is dealing with woman and man not trying to be the opposite of what they are - or for your purposes - gender blenders.

I think the scriptures refer to changing who you are (inherently), and to trying to pass yourself off as or pose as the opposite sex.

I don't think it has a thing to do with wearing similar items of clothing.

Deut 22 - - women are to look like women, men like men.

I think you have a very hypocritical stance concerning Deut 22:5.

On the one hand you say it has nothing to do with britches, and on the other you say women are to look like women and men like men. Can you not see why the UPC has taken the stand it has concerning women wearing britches?

They just draw the line in a different place than you and, honestly, the more I think about it, the more I think it is wise.

Britches are made for women too. We've gone around that mulberry bush a zillon times. I LOOK like a woman in britches. I don't walk like I have a saddle between my legs. I'm graceful (well, getting there - - the knee isn't 100% yet) and I look all woman.

Anyone can draw the line wherever they feel comfortable, but I'll respect your wife for not wearing pants if she can respect me for wearing them. I mean britches!

You've met me and I had on crop pants - - did I look like a man?

I think we should go out of our way to be...um...genderly distinct. (I made that up.) ...whatever that means within a particular culture.

It is cultural, and a good example is Indian women with their sari/tunics and the pants that go underneath--they don't look masculine whatsoever. However, I think that jeans look really masculine, and so while I might wear pajama pants (okay, I DO), I also draw the line...somewhere.

That's the problem though...I really do think that churches and saints ought to be drawing some lines on an individual basis. (Yes, I know "saint" and "church" is contradictory on the singular vs. plural note)
