Richard Heard?

I was in an Apostolic Church back in the late 80's while a powerful speaker spoke, the title was 'prayer really changes things.' Is name was Richard Heard from the United Pentecostal Church.
I recently tried looking him up on the net to buy some tapes from him. The only Richard Heard I found is Richard Heard a pastor from Christian Tabernacle in Houston TX.
I hope this is not the Richard Heard I heard speak that night. Does anyone know about the Richard Heard from the UPC and the Richard Heard from Christian Tabernacle in Houston TX? All information on both will be appreciated, but I'm looking for the Richard Heard from the UPC. Thanks to you all.

Is JCM a church? Do you know how I can get the old preaching tapes from him? The preaching from the 80's. Thanks.

JCM is Jackson College of Ministries, which was a UPCI bible college.

Good luck on finding preaching tapes from the 80's! Maybe some churches still have tapes from when her preached revivals back then.

Re: Richard Heard?

He preached a long revival at the First Pentecostal Church in Jackson Mississippi back in 1981 between March/April all the way to May. He did not have a lot of variations to his preaching back then. He preached the same messages week after week for every Monday to Sunday. So if you ask for one week of his sermons you would get the whole content of three month revival. The pastor was Thomas L Craft. This church had the college in it's hand in that year. Richard Heard did not really preach at the college though that I remember. Just at the church. There should be a website to reach Bro Crafts church in order to see if you can get someone there to send you some cassette tapes.

Bro. Heard preached in Madisonville in the early eighties as well. I remember his sermon on "The Ashes of the Red Heifer". It really was a good sermon. I enjoy Jewish History and studying their traditions and so I enjoyed this sermon.

I don't remember "scare tactics". However, ummmm, I really don't scare that easily! LOL

from what I have heard (from sources who actually went to church there) Bro Free was actually forced to retire. He had brought in Richard Heard (he was originally out of Free's church in Sulphur LA) to help him co-pastor and after a few years he did a corporate take over....or so I heard. I know for a fact though that Bro. Free was despondant for many years and was very bitter over leaving.

Oh and by the way for a bit of history....grandma Bean started the church (which started in Greens Bayou) and then Verbal Bean took over in the 1970's and upon his death Bro. Free was voted in. He built the new sanctuary on the property that Bro. Bean purchased.

I still have friends that go there.

Richard Heard left the UPC and has gone Charismatic
Probably in the early 90s ? maybe mid 90s I don't remember.

He preached a long (several months) revival in stockton,CA
you may want to call their media Dept and see if they still
have the tapes from that revival

it means he decided all the stuff he had preached for years would prevent him from having a big church so he stopped preaching anything related to sactification and holiness and consequently standards. he stopped preaching that it was essential to obey the gospel in the same why he did before he went charismatic. It means instead of preaching fear of the Lord and conviction, he has gone with Im ok your ok and now there is nothing to distinguish him and benny hinn except accent.

It means HE WENT CHARISMATIC.

This time Mark is right.

I don't know anything about what he has done since leaving, remember hearing him preach when I was a kid. But I think throwing the term charismatic in a pejorative sense is a bit much. Some folks actually study Scripture and come to the conclusion that 20th century Pentecostal churches isn't the light in which they want to interpret Scripture. Why is it when they leave the UPC and the church dwindles it’s because they left the truth but when it grows they left so it would grow.

my brother we generally end up on the same side around here. on this one, I fall on the side of disdane.

Richard Heard, Jabo Green and some more I could name WENT CHARISMATIC.

And if you feel better by considering that a pejorative, then be my guest.

i am comfortable with it.

i will not name any more names. But there is a fellow who is much like Richard Heard. He pastors some place in the world and he was a close friend of my fathers.

My dad says of him that he either lied for the first 40 years of his ministry or he is lying now.

Ever change your mind? Ever have more information or maturity in which you look at an issue and say, "I was wrong."

Sounds kinda like the liberals who slam Bush on the war.
