Leaving for Africa Tomorrow

Please pray for Eddie and me as we leave for Kenya tomorrow night. We'll be gone until the 24th, doing a pastor's conference in Bungoma and dedicating our new Love and Truth headquarters church in Bukempe. This will be the first time we've gone by ourselves, without the other couple who has been so many times, so it will be a new experience.

Kenya has gone through so much turmoil since the election fiasco in December, but God is healing their land and the people. We are taking them 170 pounds of clothing, mostly children's, for the pastors' families. We will also try to give them each some money if we are able. The conference will be free to all 28 L & T pastors/wives because we got sponsors for them. Also, we got money to buy about 70 bicycles for pastors while we're there, so that's exciting. There will be about 150 pastors total at the conference, plus wives.

We will be installing a "Bishop" over Love and Truth in Eastern Africa while we're there. He will now have authority to interview new pastors, discipline them as needed, etc. rather than having to depend on us from a very long distance.

Anyway, we need much prayer for safe travels, and for protection from stomach issues and disease.

Thanks, everyone. It's just a little bit scary to head off to Africa, knowing all the responsibilities we have here at home. I just have to believe that God send angels to travel with us!

Have a wonderful and blessed time! Wish "I" was going with you!

I love the continent of Africa. So far have only been to South Africa (3 times) and Zambia (once) but oh how I love it. Hoping to go back to Zambia for a Women's Health Conference in a couple of years.

Okay, so now I'm almost jealous! LOL Blessings!

Sherri, please be careful. A B.C. Couple who are missionaries though with which group I do not know.
They were attacked & almost killed.

Here is the link to the story.

I don't post this to put fear, but caution.

You will have prayers from here, but please be extremly careful in where you go, with whom, & for how long.

Thanks for those words of encouragement, Bro. Mark!!! Actually, they are thrilled that we get the opportunity to travel and visit the other L & T works. That's what an apostolic church is all about, you know. We have plenty of staff to stay home and take care of the flock!

Thanks, Ron. I just went to BBC.com as they always have the most up to date news on Africa. The news is mostly about the trouble in Zimbabwe, which is going through almost exactly what Kenya went through at the first of the year, except Zimbabwe hasn't erupted into killing sprees yet.

Kenya is much better than it was six months ago. We were planning to have an armed guard with us at all times, but our head pastor and driver told us it was unnecessary so we didn't hire one. However, if we get there and feel unsafe, we can always get him to ride with us.

Re: Leaving for Africa Tomorrow

The main thing is to be wise and don't ever be out at night. We will be in a secured hotel, even though it's a pretty nasty one. It's not uncommon for people to be robbed and beaten in their homes like the story of the Canadians, but that was common even before the trouble. I never wear a good watch and I NEVER wear any other jewelry, not even a wedding ring. They will chop off your finger to get a ring. We have a driver that we trust that has always driven for us, so I feel good with him. He would lay down his life for us.

May the Lord bless you going and coming and may bless your ministry while you're there as well!

BTW, Mark really needs to get a REAL life. He's real piece of work to criticize an apostolic work in progress. He should apologize IMO. :D

We are in Nairobi! We slept twelve hours last night; finally SOME SLEEP after two days. We were exhausted. We had to go exchange a bunch of money, get bottled water, visit a Bible book store and a few other things yesterday. We have met a lot of people. Be sure to read my other thread about meeting the missionaries.

How is the situation in Kenya right now?
Calm, restless?

Re: Leaving for Africa Tomorrow

We are back in Nairobi after four days in the bush country. I absolutely love it here!!! We had an amazing pastor's conference - the Holy Ghost fell in such powerful ways and people were set free from so many things. We had about 200+ pastors & wives there. Love & Truth has 28 pastors here, but there were lots of other ones at the conference. Then yesterday we dedicated our new headquarter's church building in Bukempe that our Bishop here pastors. It was packed and has grown so much in two years!!

Church started at 5 AM yesterday and we were supposed to be there at ten. We got there at 10 AM and left at 3 PM and it was still going strong. They really love to worship. I got lots of really great video and also still pictures. I'll post some when I get home.

I got to see my three little Sherris. Sherri Precious Cupples Mabwa was there one day and I got to give her a new dress. Sherri Ayoyi was there the whole conference. They are both 3-1/2. Then I have a new baby named "Pastor Sherri Wafula" and I got to see her for the first time. It's so much fun to take clothing to them; they are so grateful. We were able to give new clothing to all 82 of our pastor's kids, plus shirts for the pastors and gift bags for the pastor's wives.

Re: Leaving for Africa Tomorrow

The whole conference theme was on "Blessings and Curses" and Eddie taught on the power of the spoken word and lots of other areas related. The day he taught on witchcraft curses, he could barely breathe and speak the entire session. He was coming against so much resistance in the spirit, but he recognized what it was and just kept teaching. At the end, he was going to pray for people against witchcraft curses in their families and immediately when he started to pray, all the power went out. It's the only time it happened in the whole three days. We knew it was the enemy and so everyone just prayed and prayed and pled the blood of Jesus and we had a Holy Ghost breakthrough. It was so awesome!

The people here are so humble and sweet. You can't help but just love on them!!! And they love the Lord so much, even in the midst of terrible struggles and famine. It makes me ashamed. They actually took an offering for us at the pastor's conference. Eddie and I sat there and wept as people literally came and gave the "widow's mite". It was very humbling.

On the mission field it is almost scary to see people thaat have nothing give everything....and see how much NA has...
Judgment day will hold a lot of surprizes...and many people will be shocked...

I have been called judgmental but I will say once again, God will not say well done UNLESS we have done well...
