What version and Bible do you use, Why?

I have KJV Interliner Greek/Hebrew. I love the lexicon and it is keyed to Strong's. His footnotes offer a lot of historical data and interpetation.

I use KJV.... It is what I was raised on, and have no desire to change really.

Re: What version and Bible do you use, Why?

It depends. Isn't that always the lawyers answer?

My least favorite is my NIV, my favorite is a toss up between my Peoples Parallel which has the KJV and the NLT, the NLT is my favorite translation. My other favorite is I have a Greek/Hebrew Study Bible that has a small lexicon and Strong’s definitions for key words.

Re: What version and Bible do you use, Why?

I like NIV, American Standard, and The Message.

I rarely pick up my NIV anymore unless I want to use the concordance. I mostly read the Message because you can actually sit down and read it. Most of the young folks my age seem to like the Message too.

I have a problem with the more dynamic translations. I prefer the ESV. It has the essentially literal philosophy and accuracy of the NASB and retains the beauty of the KJV. I also use many other translations along with the Bibleworks software.

Re: What version and Bible do you use, Why?

All time favorite would be KJV because we go back so far together. It's what I read for many years after I got saved in 1955 at the age of 17.

I've read a few versions all the way through, and I have read from and still read from many versions.

I'm not familiar with ESV?

I use many translations along with Bibleworks software as well. :)

Re: What version and Bible do you use, Why?

My favorite is the KJV and my next favoriate is the ESV. I like them both because the scholarship of each translation was very dedicated to being essentially literal as opposed to dynamic.

I use a wide variety of Bible translations but the KJV and the ESV are my favs. I also enjoy the NASB. I'll use the NLT or the Message for paraphrases and looser teaching environments.

KJV......'cause I'm saved.

Seriously, I also recommend the Maxwell Leadership Bible to all church leaders. It is a phenomenal, practical Bible that has really enriched my ministry.

My favorite is the KJV. My Bible program has 13 different translations, including the NIV (Normally Incorrect Version) and The Message (It's ok, but I can't say I prefer it.

LOL, That is like the guy who said he would quote the Greek if it supported what he wanted it to say. If not he could always go to other versions, marginal renderings, websters or commentary. I actually heard a preacher say he went to websters but could not find what he wanted, then went to an unabridged dictionary down to the 6th definition. He was looking up the word "fear" and finally liked "run from in stark terror."

I mostly read The KJV,but I really like The NKJV because it is similar to the KJV,but easier to understand in places.
I also use the ESV,AMP.NASB,NIV but I really stick with the KJV,and NKJV.

NASB, its very close to the Greek.

Scott Hutchinson 07-14-2008 07:15 PM

Re: What version and Bible do you use, Why?

NASB is very literal, but it uses a different text that The KJV,NKJV I understand it's based on The Alexandria text I use one too though.
I've about wore out mine put out by The Lockman Foundation.

Its also very similar to the Spanish bible I grew up using, Reina Valera.

KJV. I love it, though I wish I had one with a concordance. Bibles are so expensive. I really can't figure that out.

For bible reading I use the NKJV, for study or apologetics I often use the ESV or the NET along with the KJV to show differences

Sister get a Strong's concordance, you can obtain one fairly cheaply.

I read and study from the KJV. Old habits die hard.

But I often look up other translations if I want more of an undestanding of the text. I have an inductive study Bible in the NASV. I hated it at first but now I've gotten use to it and don't mind it so much.
