Re: Anyone care to list the Apostolic Doctrine....
Get ready, because you are about to get 100 different answers. Do you not have a pastor you can discuss this with? Not trying to be rude or anything, but you are seriously about to get a bunch of different answers.

Well come to think of it I guess I do have a response to a Jesus-only doctrine. Jesus is the only human who is God. BTW Acts 2:38 doesn't have to do with the Godhead, but our response to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. |

I've seen this movie before.

Re: Anyone care to list the Apostolic Doctrine....
I was hoping people could list the doctrine like a most churches do....'What we believe' or their doctrine. Like on a Web site or in their reading materials. I mentioned this on another thread. a few people were going to get back to it and never posted. And no, I don't have a church home or Pastor. But yes I'd like one. I'd like to compare a what you folks post compared to what I learned in the church I attended years ago. Thanks!

God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory... 1 Tim 3:16 Acts records the message the Acts of the Apostles at the begining of the Church. Peter preached to the crowds on the day of Pentecost (when those who were waiting in the upper room recieved the Holy Ghost for the first time, and created quite a stir in Jerusalem)... Peter preached to them that Jesus had come in the flesh, and they had crucified Him, yet He lives and this is the Good News. That Jesus came, was our ultimate sacrifice for sin, and that He ever liveth... They were pricked in thier hearts.. they believed the words Peter told them.. they believed the Good News he preached to them. They asked Peter what they had to do to be saved... Peter told them. While he was standing with the other 11 disciples, he told them. They obeyed, many were added to the church. That's what was going on in the verse Acts 2:38 The believed, they asked "what must we do?", and Peter told them what they must do... and they did it. In a nutshell... |

Father : God is a Spirit (John 4:24). He is the Eternal One, the Creator of all things, and the Father of all humanity by creation. He is the First and the Last, and beside Him there is no God (Isaiah 44:6). There was no God formed before Him; neither shall be there any after Him (Isaiah 43:10). Son : Jesus is the Son of God according to the flesh (Romans 1:3) and the very God Himself according to the Spirit (Matthew 1:23). Jesus is the Christ (Matthew 16:16); the creator of all things (Colossians 1:16-17); God with us (Matthew 1:23); God made flesh (John 1:1-14); God manifested in the flesh (I Timothy 3:16);He which was, which is, and which is to come, the Almighty (Revelation 1:8);the mighty God, everlasting Father, and Prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus Himself testified of His identity as God when He said, "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father" (John 14:7-11) and "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30). It took shedding of blood for the remission of the sins of the world (Hebrews 9:22), but God the Father was a Spirit and had no blood to shed. Thus He prepared a body of flesh and blood (Hebrews 10:5)and came to earth as a man in order to save us, for in Isaiah 43:11 He said, "Beside me there is no Saviour." When He came in flesh the angels sang, "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:11). Holy Ghost : The Holy Ghost is not a third person in the Godhead, but rather the Spirit of God (the Creator), the Spirit of the resurrected Christ. The Holy Ghost comes to dwell in the hearts and lives of everyone who believes and obeys the gospel, as the comforter, Sustainer, and keeper (John 14:16-26; Romans 8:9-11). |
Re: Anyone care to list the Apostolic Doctrine....
Salvation : Salvation consists of deliverance from all sin and unrighteousness through the blood of Jesus Christ. The New Testament experience of salvation consists of repentance from sin, water baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost, after which the Christian is to live a godly life (Acts 2:36-41).

Re: Anyone care to list the Apostolic Doctrine....
Just in case you was serious:
1. Jesus of the New Testament was Jehovah of the Old Testament the ONLY True Eternal God manifested in one Person. The doctrine of the Trinity is Catholic. 2. New Testament Salvation through blood by faith in obeying the gospel repentance, baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ FOR the remission of sins, infilling of the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking in other tongues. 3. Biblical holiness of flesh and spirit separated UNTO God and FROM the world. 4. Fruit and the gifts of the Spirit. 5. Biblical church government. 6. The literal return of Christ for His church and to judge the world. 7. The bodily resurrection of the dead. 8. Observance of the Lord's supper and feetwashing. This is for starts. |

Re: Anyone care to list the Apostolic Doctrine....
Acts 1:15-22
Acts 2:14-36 Acts 2:38-39 Acts 2:42- The Apostles Doctrine. The term "the apostles doctrine" comes from Acts 23:42. Notice that the word "aostles" is plural, which means more than one apostle preached what has become known as "the apostles doctrine". Unfortunately, we have no idea as to what the other apostles preached. We have only Peters sermons (listed above) from which we can learn exactly what was preached in those early days of the NT church. The good news is that from Peters 2 sermons (and from his reply of a question), we can learn the fundamental teachings of the NT church. Just read the passages listed above and you will learn the very basic teachings that came to be known as the Apostles Doctrine. Of course, over time, that "apostles doctrine" has expanded through the ministry of men like the Apostle Paul and others. Because Paul (and others) was an apostle, he had the authority to expand the NT message. And, unfortunately, the "apostles doctrine" seems to continue to be expanded to this very day, often with "doctrines" and teachings that have nothing to do with the very foundation of the apotles doctrine as taught by Peter in Acts 1 and 2. |

The thread title should have been "Anyone care to list the Apostolic Doctrine... for the 254,658,857th time"?

Re: Anyone care to list the Apostolic Doctrine....
If you are looking for concise doctrinal statements, the one called "The Apostles' Creed" is a summary of Christian beliefs and is used in several different churches, some times with minor variations. This is some times recited as a confession of faith and is some times spoken as a prayer.
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost: The holy catholic* Church; The Communion of Saints: The Forgiveness of sins: The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen. *catholic in this case means universal, not the Roman Catholic Church |
Re: Anyone care to list the Apostolic Doctrine....
One large Apostolic Church lists their beliefs as follows on their website:
We believe .. in one God, revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. ... that our Lord Jesus Christ was begotten, not created, very God of very God, truly God, truly Man. He was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died a vicarious and atoning death for the sins of the world, was resurrected bodily for our justification, and now reigns in glory until all things be put under His feet. ... in the absolute inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, given by the Holy Spirit without error, as He moved upon holy men of old. Furthermore, ... that the church has no authority to establish doctrine or practice contrary to these same Scriptures, which were subsequently accepted as canon by the early Christian Church. ... that man was made in the image of God and is the crown of creation. He is now, by reason of the fall, spiritually depraved and alienated from His Creator. Apart from God's grace he has no ability to attain to his high calling. ... that justification is by grace through faith in our Lord's sacrifice on Calvary. ... that all of God's people are to be buried with Christ in the waters of baptism, subsequent to conversion. While we freely embrace those of contrary opinion, we feel that this rite is scripturally administered "in the name of the Lord Jesus." ... that the Holy Spirit indwells all believers, conforming them to the image of Jesus Christ. ... that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is an enduement of powers subsequent to conversion, given by God to anoint the believer for sanctification and evangelism. It is our understanding that the supernatural charisms of the Holy Spirit are active within the body of Christ until the coming of the Lord. Furthermore, ... the development of these charismatic gifts ought to be encouraged under the guidance of local church authorities. ... in the Holy Christian Church, imperfectly represented on Earth by the various Christian institutions. Her unity is spiritual, her culture diverse and transitional, her mission eternal. ... that the calling of Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher are functional within the Body of Christ until the Lord's return. Furthermore, these ministries are gifts to the church for the purpose of equipping the saints for the work of ministry, that the Body of Christ be edified. ... the identity of the Body of Christ on the Earth is primarily perceived through the local church. While encouraging the voluntary association of local churches, and recognizing the need of consensus on matters of fundamental doctrine and conduct, we strongly confess the local church to be sovereign and autonomous. ... in the right of local churches and ministries to form temporal institutions to assist them in carrying out the work of God. At the same time, we reject sectarianism and divisiveness as great evils. ... in the priesthood of the believer. That is to say all people born of God have equal status before, and direct access to their Lord. ... in the spiritual unity of all who are born of God. We confess even those with whom we disagree, those who do not confess us, and others whom we exclude because of our unwillful ignorance. ... that those who are called by the name of Christ should depart from iniquity. Understanding that salvation from the penalty of sin only begins the process of redemption, we acknowledge that one work of the Holy Spirit is to create in us the character of Christ. ... in the literal second coming of our Lord, the literal rule of Christ upon Earth, the resurrection of the regenerate to eternal life and the unregenerate to eternal damnation, and the ultimate victory of the eternal Kingdom of God. |
