UC, MOD, or LIB...

Do you think the first church was conservative, moderate, or liberal? Let's give you some examples.

Liberal: Adam walks to the pulpit, ready to preach his well prepared message from Genesis 2:17 to the congregation (Eve). "And the word of the Lord says, But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. I am not the Lord over you, you are your own person. You can make your own convictions. You can the fruit in your pocket if you want, but you know what the principle of it is... Just don't eat it. Go ahead and walk around with it, just follow the principle."

Moderate: Adam walks to the pulpit, ready to preach his well prepared message from Genesis 2:17 to the congregation (Eve). "And the word of the Lord says, But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Now, I as a pastor wouldn't carry the fruit around in my pocket, or take the fruit from the tree, and I wouldn't hang around the tree and you surely won't die, but if want to, just remember, don't eat of it."

Ultra Conservative: Adam walks to the pulpit, ready to preach his well prepared message from Genesis 2:17 to the congregation (Eve). "And the word of the Lord says, But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. You shall not only not eat of it, but if ye even touch it, ye shall surely die! Don't even go near it, don't even touch it!"

The first church was conservative! :whistle (WARNING: Just having a little fun, so don't get uptight.)

so what category do you think you are in?
cat. #1: no standards
cat. #2: some standards but not enforced
cat. #3: standards are preached and upheld

You know that liberal lilly livered pastor across town won't say it, but I will...if you even LOOK at it you are going to HELL in a hand basket! in fact if you get within 20 feet of it you are sinning! And if you eat a fruit that is the same color you're daddy is the devil"

I needed to amend the UCs to make it more realistic :ursofunny

Which group would the folks at the Azuza St. Revival fit in? You know, the ones who started the modern Pentecostal movement.

Were they considered conservative, moderate, or liberal?

Trinitarian or Oneness? Triune formula or Jesus name?

Facial hair or none? Jewelry or none?

The first church was Christian because they were disciples of Christ, and their lives were based on His teachings.

God only told Adam not to eat of it; but Eve said in Gen 3 that she was not to eat or touch it. So who told her not to touch it? Is it possible that since God told Adam not to eat of it, that Adam created a rule/standard for Eve not to touch it? There is nothing written that God said anything about not touching it. Did God use Adam to create a rule/standard about not even touching it? Is it within the realm of possibility?

Gen 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Gen 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

Was Eve lying? Did Adam really say this to her? She said God said it, Was she lying?

In God's chain of command, Adam was also the pastor...for safety sake or love of his bride he said don't touch it.

Thus when he made the rule and told her, she who had not talked with the Lord took his words as being from the Lord.

The implication being that a pastor makes rules according to his love for the bride and not out of spite or vainglory..at least this should be the condition of the extra rules added.

Gen 3:3 was Eve speaking to the serpent, not God (or Adam for that matter). I beleive that it is possible that Eve was "psyched out" when she was approached by the serpent and perhaps misquoted what God (or Adam for that matter) had said. I think the serpent knew he had a better chance of deceiving Eve than he did Adam, so his approach was to Eve first because the serpent was "wise".

Why would Eve need a Pastor if neither of them had sinned yet? They did not know what good and evil was. They did not know what temptation was, They did not know there was a Devil for that matter that would try to make them eat. God never warned them as far as the written word goes.

Anything to justify building a fence 100 ft. away from and around what the bible teaches.

Well, I gotta get the word out, Brother! It's only been recently that I settled the question in my own mind, even though the answer was staring me right in the face all along. :)
