Here is a pretty sad story. At first I had little sympathy for this idiot who did not pay a fifity dollar ticket and let it snowball to about $2500.

However if you read the entire article and see the complete circumstances it is very sad.

The really sad thing about it is that it wasn't even a neighbor who complained about his van in the driveway with no tag on it. It was his own brother who didn't even live there!

This all happened at a time when this poor psycho guy's dad had just died and his mother was dying of cancer.

He couldn't get the licesne plate on the van until he could get the emissions tested and he couldn't drive the van to get the emssions tested until he got the broken radiator fixed and he didn't have the money to do that.

That was my firrst thought and it is true. However when you read further this guy has mental problems, physical problems, his dad and mom who were living with him both died rightin the middle of this, and the van in questoin was broken so he could not drive it to get the emissions test needed to get a license plate to put on it. That is why he ketp getting more and more tickets for not getting it done.

No No... I dont mean him! I mean the state sorry I should have clarified... I think its stooopid that they dont do something to help them first instead of taking what is probably all he has left!

This guy owns a $245,000 house and couldn't scrape up the money to get his van fixed? I hate to see him lose his house, but it's his own fault, and he's admitted as much.

It sounds like it may have started out with the parents house and he inherited it. It does not sound like he has the means to buy a house like this on his own. He is psycho and has physical disabilities also so he is just on a disability check.

You really have to read the article because my first instinct was also to think this guy is just a stubborn knucklhead for not paying the fifty bucks but it was more than that.

The $2400 was because he kept getting ticketed on the van because he couldn't get it licensed because it was not drivable to get an emissions test done. He claims he didn't have the money to get it fixed right then.

No doubt he is ultimately at fault but when you read the full story there were a lot of extenuating circumstances and there were not even any neighbors complaining about the vehicle not having a license plate - just an angry family member.

I was able to gather that he inherited this house. With a $245,000 home, you'd think he'd be able to borrow a few hundred dollars without a problem. Also, the van looked pretty old to me and not worth a whole lot to begin with. Why not call a junk yard and have them come get it, rather than lose the house? It seems to me like he just kept putting this off and putting this off. Now he's lost his house. You're right about his brother being the bad guy, though.

I think this is one of those cases where the various solutions are very clear to most of us but this guy is so out of it with his mental problems and everything else that he was overwhelmed.

I think in the case of mentally disturbed / disabled persons they should have someboyd appointed to act as an advocate for them in cases like this.

You would think at some point someone in the city government would have put the brakes on the legal process and reached out to a government or NGO to help this poor soul get this straigthened out.
