United States Men Beat Frogs For Gold!!!
 

The USA men who were underdogs to the vaunted French 4x100 swimming relay team pulled off an upset tonight in the Olympics and won the Gold medal.

In addition to the Gold Medal they broke all prevoius world records for that event.

The best part is that when one of the French swimmers was asked awhile back about facing the Americans in this event at the Olympics he stated that the Americans were why they were coming to the Olympics and that the French team was going to crush the Americans!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!

I too saw this last night. I was up late working and watching the Olympics, and I was trying to be quiet since DH was already upstairs asleep, but I was clapping and cheering. I think I scared my cat half to death.

So exciting...that's why I love watching the Olympics.

It was AMAZING!!! The replays they showed of Michael Phelps cheering were priceless...and then watching that arrogant man who said he'd crush him was even better. He couldn't get out of the pool! :bigbaby

After the third leg, I was kind of feeling sorry for Michael Phelps as this would ruin his quest for 8 gold medals. Was he excited or what???????

We watched the race last night too. My husband was sleeping in the chair and said something about going to bed- I said I would stay up and watch the rest of the races. He got interested in the swimming and then could not go to bed after the race. Exciting!

CC1 is a great guy, but the title he put on this thread is classless, tasteless, and ignorant. (Deacon's use of "Frenchie" isn't much better.)

On this side of the border, the epithet that he used is about as acceptable as the "N" word is on your side.

Maybe we could compromise and retitle the thread "Barnyard Squabble: American Pigs Beat Frogs For Gold." (Unless you might find that offensive.)

According to the Word Detective below is the origins of the term "frogs" referring to the French;

Frog" was indeed at one time a popular derogatory term for a French person, though it didn't start out quite that way. I have to assume that you're completely ignorant in your use of the term "frog". You should consider your words and their meaning before you hit the keyboard. This is definitely a derogatory term - especially in the context you used it.

It blows my mind how christians/pentecostals/apostolics can open their mouths to say things, or pick up a pen to write something, or hit the keys on a computer keyboard without engaging their brain AND heart about what they're communicating! Doesn't anyone follow WWJD - What Would Jesus Do/Say/Write...???? Or maybe their Jesus is a rude, uncouth, racist who cares about no one else except themselves and their "type"!

Actually, no - I'm not French. I'm not black either but that doesn't mean I condone racist terms for black folks. I'm not Indian or Pakistani or Polish or Jewish - it doesn't mean I support calling them terms that are offensive or racist!

Again - especially in the context of being "Christ like" this is very disconcerting.

Well, I for one, had no idea Frog was a derogatory term. It's MUCH different than the "n" word, since the "n" word has absolutely NO place in the English language, whereas "frog" describes an amphibian.

Which is probably why I never would have thought of it as a derogatory term.

I suppose we should not refer to people as "work horses" or "old dogs" or "sly foxes".

To my american buddies, there is a huge french canadian population on the East Coast of Canada and since a lot of NBers and former NBers post here, they are fighting your use of the word "frog", they also don't use the word Indian but Native. This is where you show your restraint, he he. To my Canadian buddies...After living in Canada for a while I have become used to the idea of showing respect to my french neighbors and KNOW of the racism that exists here and what the Christians try to avoid...but....you gotta know...Americans DESPISE all things French.

Pardon my French! I used the term in a lighthearted derogatory way, not in any anger or hatred. I posted some research about the term and while it is indeed derogatory it is not in the same sense as the "n" word is to Blacks.

I do indeed like to poke fun at the French as the only folks in the world to exceed my own contry for a sense of ethnocentrism. Of course in the case of America we have reasons to be ethnocentric!

I do like the new French President but I am wondering just how long a conservative can last in a socialist atmosphere. I hope long enough to win the hearts and minds of enough of the public to continue his reforms to help France.

I have an engineer working for me who is from Newfoundland. I asked him about the term, and he said that it was an insult, but nowhere NEAR the "n" word. He likened it to calling Southern people "rednecks", but when he read the responses here by a couple of folks, he said, "They are flying off the handle. They're making way more of this than a French person would".

He just became an American citizen, and so our interns wrapped his car with red, white and blue plastic wrap, and planted a few American flags on it!

Took him a while to cut it away so he could get into his car, but he was smiling the whole time!

That is what my research shows. As Michael Phelps said it is more akin to calling a Southerner a "redneck" or one of us Tennesseans a "hillbilly".
