Catching a Bobcat???

My Mom has a bobcat that has takes 12 of her chickens in the past week. She only has 8 left.

Any suggestions on how to catch a bobcat?

I suggested she shoot it! But I'm thinking she may be afraid her aim is not good enough. She is 77 now.

She said it has been coming every other night and it hit last night. She also said it comes between 9:30 and 10:30 at night.

Any suggestions?

you have a couple of options. a live trap will capture it but then you have to get rid of it.

the other option would be a steal jaw trap.

what you do is get a chicken and suspend it by a rope so that it is about 4 feet off the ground. then set 4 steal traps underneath it covered by leaves and such. when the bobcat comes it will jump for the chicken and land in the traps. kill the cat, skin it and sell the pelt.

or just get a live trap then drive about 100 miles away and let it go.

use a shotgun, or poison the rat, then have him mounted, people pay good money for that, dt

She considered getting some wieners and putting posion in it. I'm concerned others animals might would eat it and die.

where does she live? if she is out in the country (which i suspect if she has chickens), she needs to call one of her neighbors. I am sure there is some feller near her who would love to trap that cat and make some cash from its pelt.

She was in the country until several years ago they incorporated her into the City. Actually, you was in another town and Shreveport took their little town in.

I bet it's a mamma feeding her cubs.

then she can call animal control.

I would either call animal control or I would find a neighbor who wants to catch it and sell the pelt.

Yes they think they have seen two different cats.

I doubt any of her neighbors would have a clue how to catch it. They are fairly young and don't seem to be the outdoor types.

Hmmm . . . you can buy these live traps but I usually end up catching cats and other animals that I didn't mean to catch.

I haven't had any trouble with Bob Cats, now armadillos, I hate those suckers so I just wake up in the middle of the night and take a look outside and shoot them with my little .22 rifle.

Were are you at?

I hardly ever see a Possum on a half shell.

A steel trap would be the best. However, it sounds as though you live in an area where you could catch a dog or cat. I would call animal control.

She's not really close to town although they are moving much closer to her. But dogs do roam in the country, plus she has a lot of squirrels, etc.

is it legal to shoot a bobcat? I'm just curious. We don't have those around here.

I would venture to say it is very illegal to shoot a bobcat. I would call the state conservation dept. and follow their instructions. Meanwhile plan on loosing ALL the chickens if they are not well protected.

My son has been in college for a full year and no bobcats have eaten him yet, Margie. So you can rest a little easier. :friend By the way, he's the one on the far left.

She moved them to a temp pen until my brother gets home Wed. Hope it works, but I have my doubts about Tarp keeping a cat out!

A shotgun with say # 2 shot would do just fine.
