That could be cool

That might be a good idea for the future, if the Admins decided to add that.
(...hint, hint, hint)

We've toyed with the idea. The problem is how. A chat room built into the forum could use a lot of bandwidth and slow the forum down. If it's not a free solution then someone has to pay for it.

The other alternative is a free chat room like at dalnet, but then most of you guys would have no clue how to get there

Well, maybe we could set one up there, and have a permanent link at the top of each AFF page?

I am just curious... as fast as this board normally runs what makes it so different from a chat room anywho? Just for those who cant multi task and run more than one thread at a time I guess? Its better this way I feel because you get a lot of whackos on most chat rooms... Just something I have seen!

Re: Chatroom please:)

I can create a chatroom using IRC in somewhere like Dalnet. In order to do that we would need a couple of people to be Admins there and that does not mean just enforcing order but we need a script bot running 24/7

The cool thing about that is with the right scripts we can have games like trivia persuit. You can "post" cool ascii character greetings to others and also have private chat.

If you want to see a little what it is like
Visit here
http://www.dal.net/
then in the right hand corner where it says chat now click GO.

This is a java client client without all the bells and whistles of a regular IRC client like MiRC and others. I have or can get a version of MiRC called Christian Command with a lot of added bells and whistles to it.

There are a lot of command line commands you can use to get different things. for example to change chat rooms to one you know of or to list chat rooms, but these are usually all added to scripts like MiRC to make it easier

We'll lose Bro. Epley if we have a chat room.

Re: Chatroom please:)

Also you can use IM clients like Trillian to visit the chat room

Re: Chatroom please:)

If we had a chatroom going, then any conversation that people had prior to when you logged on would be inaccessible for you, correct? Sometimes I come on here at, say noon and start reading and find that a really interesting conversation had been going on from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. If we were talking in a chatroom, I would never know about that conversation.

I think I like this kind of venue better myself. But that's just my one vote.

There is hardly ever anybody in the chat room at GNC. EA had a chat room, but now I can't find it. Though I think the Singles group there has one.

I personally like this set up better. I am not able to keep up with most threads as it is.

Yes and not only that and more importantly you can NOT just delete what you said before others read it

That really is a very valid and important point, Prax! Thanks for making it.
