Dark Blue/Navy Suit With What Colored Shoes?

I recently added a beautiful dark blue/Possibly Navy suit to my wardrobe. I was told not to wear black shoes with a navy colored suit.

I'll probably wear lavender, blue and burgundy colored shirts with it. I was given options such as dark brown, brown, navy, or burgundy shoes. Other stated Black is okay and others stated brown was a NO NO.......(sigh)

What color shoes do you folks wear with dark blue/navy colored suits?

Re: Dark Blue/Navy Suit With What Colored Shoes?

I typically wear black shoes with a navy suit .... believing black matches w/ everything... although my fiance ... in my last trip to CA ... told me that's a no-no.

Who knows? *shrug*

Re: Dark Blue/Navy Suit With What Colored Shoes?

Consider the color of your suit. Black shoes work best with navy, gray (all shades) and black suits. Brown shoes work with tan suits, as well as some shades of navy and black. Black is considered the dressiest shoe color.

All I have to say is YOU POOR GUYS!!!! Only a few colors of shoes to choose from.

I'm glad I'm a woman!

Re: Dark Blue/Navy Suit With What Colored Shoes?

I always wear navy or red leather shoes when I'm in navy. I only have one navy outfit, it's my worse color. But if I wear it, I always choose a red or white or red/white stripped shell underneath.

I usually go with a shade of brown when wearing a blue suit unless I'm just wearing a shirt and tie that would clash with it. Or you could just go true brother with it and get you some blue gators to match. :)

Renda,
It's so funny that we have a thread about shoes. That's the last thing I ever buy and purses. I hate buying shoes! :ursofunny

Is brown the new black? You just never know with fashion.

It has to be the right shade in order to work. With a navy suit I would wear a dark brown ...you just have to be careful with the shade or else it doesn't look right.

Re: Dark Blue/Navy Suit With What Colored Shoes?

black is fine, just match your belt to the shoes, if you wear a belt, and suspenders accordingly also, i sold mens clothes and managed a mens wearhouse for a few years, dark brown would be ok, just match the rest of your accessories, also burgundy shoes would be good, dark, the not black thing is a joke, most people wear black shoes with navy blue, lol,dt

Brown shoes with a navy suit is kind of the cool thing right now. It was always ok but lately it seem as preferable to wear brown shoes with navy. However, there is nothing wrong with wearing black shoes with navy, you just won't seem as "hip".

I prefer black with navy but would consider brown if I was in an environment where is mattered.

I do wear black with navy at times, but most often do wear it with a brown. But like DT said the rest of the accessories pull it together and give you more optional looks for the same suit.

Stew,
Check this shoe out that my daughter bought her husband and MADE him wear them to church. I told her that a "Brutha" could get away with that, but not her husband. He wore them to church - once- to make her happy and then they sold them on Ebay!

The toe, in real life, looks more curled on the end than this picture. I think they reminded me of the Wizard of Oz! :ursofunny

here is your answer....

It depends on how young and hip you are. I personally would only wear black shoes/belt with navy because that is the "right" thing us stoggy folk do.

however, the "in" crowd no find that to be oh so very old fashoned.

It is very hip to wear brown with navy. dark brown would be the compromise while the true hipsters would wear even a lighter brown shoe.

(I suspect the in crowd dont wear belts at all... they are a sorry lot)

He loves the way the "Bruthas" smile and hand him another suit. I guess he feels like TDJakes with Deon Sanders loading him up. :ursofunny

I think he has an orange and a blue and white pin striped too! :ursofunny

I'm not sure, but I'm leaning towards the negative on that. He has some wild stuff but overall he actually does have a pretty nice collection. The Sean John collection is surprisingly good too.

Okay, that's enough fashion talk for me. T Rutledge is already trying to determined if I'm saved as it is. :ursofunny:ursofunny
