Gas prices on the rise?

Gas is $3.68 a gallon in my area at this moment. I stopped to fill up after work after my sister called to tell me that gas was rising over $5 a gallon by morning.

The lines are horrible. My son pumped regular gas, which is ten cents more a gallon than the plus, in the gas can for the lawn mower, then got the plus out for my van, which was almost half full already.

An alarm went off inside the store, and we were told that they were out of the plus gas. My son said it shut off on him, so I told him to continue filling with the regular. He put in just $3 more...LOL!

Anyway, I then left to get milk and the Kroger, which is a block away, had about 50 cars there. Most gas stations here are reporting they are out of gas.

I was supposed to leave for central Illinois tomorrow to pick up my new dog from a friend of mine. I will cancel if gas rises above $4 a gallon. I called to tell her this news and she's heard nothing of the gas problem. She'll keep me informed so I don't take an expensive trip.

Anyway, how are the rest of you, aside from those who are out of gas because of evacuations?

Re: Gas prices on the rise?

gas up here in the Louisville KY area is 3.74 - 3.89 . I to have heard it is suppose to jump but while getting gas tonight , I asked the attendant and he said he has heard nothing other than customers saying it is going up . So I do not know if it is gossip or not , tomorrow will tell. On the KY side its 3.89 on the IN side it is 3.74 for what it is worth . Go get the dog and enjoy it and the drive . I traveled about 50 miles to get my dog she was worth every mile of it . Don't stop your life just because of a little gas price gouging .

$3.55 in Mineola, TX. I guess we will find out tomorrow if it's goes up or not.

$3.38 on the way home tonight.

If the so called conspiracy theorists are right it will drop to about 2.50 by a glut of cheap gas...the purpose of which is an economic war with Iran for refusing to use American dollars...

Re: Gas prices on the rise?

I've been out and about all morning and the gas stations are NUTS!!!!

I had a half tank, but decided to go ahead and fill up before it goes up more. There are 4-5 cars deep on each pump.

It's $3.58 today (20 cents up from a couple days ago) and they are saying it might go up another $1.00

Re: Gas prices on the rise?

My ex-husbands best friend owns a service station here in Adamsville. It was $3.59 this morning and went up 20 cents before 10:00. He said that when his gas truck runs this afternoon that he will be paying $4.58 a gallon for it so that means his prices will have to go up again to reflect his increase.

I filled my car up at lunch at Kroger for $3.79 and had to wait 20 minutes to get to the pump. The cars were 4 and 5 deep at each pump.

I'm going to fill up now. Price here is $3.49... I'm not waiting on a price increase. I just talked to Mom... they are in Pigeon Forge... she said the price jumped 70 cents a gallon today.. and some stations are already out of gas.....

Re: Gas prices on the rise?

Not an issue here. I paid $3.46 today and that is down from last week. No lines, either.

Re: Gas prices on the rise?

Just got back home. Filled my van and Samantha's car. Cost me $80. Two of the four stations in town have already gone up to $3.79 since this morning. I couldn't believe that Exxon was one of the two that hadn't already raised the price.... since that Exxon station is usually the first to go up. The two stations that still had gas at $3.49 had lines from 4-8 cars deep... the diesel pump had the longer line because they only have one pump with diesel. I had to wait in line over 20 minutes to get to the pump. I can't even imagine what it's like since Dover has turned the employees loose. Hubby may have to wait an hour to fill up.

Middleton. I called Durham's station on 72 that's just a few miles from me, and they'd already gone up to $3.79 and expect another 50 cents at least by tomorrow.

We got home, and Samantha said she never wants to have to do that again. People over there were nuts!! I wouldn't be surprised at all if they have to start rationing it.

I don't know where Tabo heard this, but she said that some of the stations in Corinth are rationing to 10 gallons at a time. She's dating a guy from Corinth so he probably told her that. I remember a couple of years ago they did that down there.

Re: Gas prices on the rise?

It's crazy around Fort Smith. Gas was around $3.39 yesterday and I just paid $3.79. The guy at the gas station is saying it'll be approaching $5.00 by the end of the weekend. There are lines around gas stations and it's a little chaotic really. I didn't see this coming at all. Gasoline fell under a $100 a barrel today and yet prices are spiking? Something is not on the up and up.

Governor Beebe declared a state of emergency in Arkansas to help combat any price gouging that is going on.

The only thing I've seen that compares to this is the day of 9/11 when people circled gas stations and were in panic.

One of the girls in the next office heard on the radio that the governor of KY declared a state of emergency also.

Has jumped over a $1.00 in the last 6 hours in Charlotte. Many stations out of gas. Panic buying.

Hubby heard that this afternoon at work too... I'll send you a text message and let you know later tonight if it's true. We're heading to Corinth in about an hour. Going out to eat at Ryan's for our anniversary. Can you believe I've put up with him for 20 years? (and vice versa) :D

I saw gas at 3.86.9 at a Murphy USA today...Whew. I drive around 90 to 100 miles per day to and from my office. I have an 8 cylinder but get around 24 to 25 miles per gallon at the most. (Usually between 23 to 24 miles).

I just waited 45 minutes to get gas at Kroger. I got it for $3,76 with my Kroger card. But the city officials have said that it will be over $5.00 by tomorrow. I called my son and told him to fill up TODAY! The line was insane!!!!!

Talk around here is that they are trying raise the price to $ 5.oo to match the prices in LA.
We have been paying about 3.68 for regular.

my MIL is in West Frankfort and she says gas in Marion IL is already $5 a gallon...which I think is CRAZY. There is NO way the weather has impacted current gas supply. How can they change the price of gas the same day so drastically when they havent gotten a new supply? Southern IL is BAD about price gouging when the weather gets bad on the coast or around driving holidays.

Our gas went up .20 in a couple of hours yesterday. I left part of St Louis and it was 3.36, I decided to wait till I got out off 270 b/c I was in the wrong lane to get into the station...Well, it was 3.59 out off the highway, still in St Louis...which was .10 cheaper than the 3.69 in Alton the same day. Well, I didnt get gas anywhere and went home. I was home MAYBE an hour, less I know and my husband and I left to go back to my moms house across town....passed the SAME station that was JUST 3.69 and it was 3.89.

Woke up this morning and it's 3.99.

That is just INSANE and totally unfair to consumers. There is NO way the storms have impacted the current supply of gasoline in stock at stations.....

My MIL said people were lined up for miles down there getting gas, and they were running out....how crazy.

Gas hasn't budged here. Still about 3.40-3.42.

SoIL is bad about price gouging, and the Attorney General will be notified of several offenders who will pay $10,000 per offense. In Anna, people were told to stop pumping while they increased the price!

Gas is anywhere from $3.99 to $4.09 where I'm at. My daughter is at a football game, and when I pick her up later, I'm filling up with as much as I can get (filled up last night but went about 40 miles today..LOL!).

I also canceled my trip to get my dog. So I'm going in two weeks instead.

This is crazy.

Regular Gas is completely gone at Raceways in my area. Cars are lining up to get it for 3.89.9 at Exxon for 87 grade....Premium is 4.15.9....The lines at Murphy USA were long according to my husband. ..He did not even notice what the price per gallon was.... I filed up for $52.00..I think it was 13.3 something gallons and my husband got 12.3 something gallons for $48.00. Sad thing is the way we drive, that will last us maybe 3 days. I wish I could find a second job. Maybe I can be a Wal Mart Greeter.

H1, I did type in my zip code and by town and state.....It's still pretty far off. I guess maybe it's not as accurate with the updates because of so many changes of the rising costs. Thanks for reminding us about GasBuddy.com though. I think usually it is pretty accurate!

There are lots of stations still showing up with low prices because nobody has upgraded them since Thursday, so that might be it in your case, but you can upgrade them yourself if you wish.

I haven't been out all day, but the stations on GasBuddy are still showing yesterday's prices, so I hope that's all we will see.

I don't get it! If the US government is so concerned with controlling as much as they can supply of oil as a national security issue, ie: the first gulf war with the USA defending Kuwait and now maintaining a presence in Iran, then why don't they set price limits (control the price of gas) on gas at the pumps. They allow large oil companies to gouge our pocketbooks with and do nothing! Is it too much to expect consistency?

Sorry, I just had to vent after reading about more gas price increases as a result of Ike.
