How much would you spend on...

1. Suit--for men

2. Dress--for Women

3. Shoes--for both

4. Dress Shirts--for both

5. Pants--for both

6. Skirts--for both...lol

7. Purse/Wallet--for both

Also what is the most expensive item that you have bought that you love or can not live with out?

I am not setting anyone up to fail just curious.

I have paid $70 for a dress shirt and the same for a tie and about 200 for dress shoes. $400 for a suit, never bought a skirt or purse for myself. I have bought a $300 purse for my wife and $150 on a skirt before. Not trying to make this a keep up with the Jones' thing. If you don't feel comfortable answering about clothing answear about something else. Like that BIG screen TV or golf clubs you know different stuff.

Thought this might be fun. We shall see...

I spent 3 dollars for a 2000 dollar suit for my son once.. does that count?! LOL... We had a guy from our church who had gastric bypass and had just bought the suit. He couldnt wear it and found it after they moved away so he only asked me to pay the shipping :)

Seriously I might answer more later.

Re: How much would you spend on...

Ok I give in... These are not normal everyday spending habits. There may have been times I have spent more and or less on these items but here goes just off of the top of my head things I can remember

1. Suit--for men 800 for one for my husband for his sisters wedding, 500 for my son one but gotta realize too he is a big man... thats about cheap for him!

2. Dress--for Women 300 for a dress a designer made especially for me to wear in my sisters wedding. It also was not your typical wedding maid of honor dress it was one that I wear very often still.. A beautiful long purple dress made by a wonderful UPC designer

3. Shoes--for both Ummmm 300 for hubby and well I got myself a nice pair of Jimmy Choo black heels a couple of years ago for 150 on sale and they are so awesome!!!

4. Dress Shirts--for both 80 for husband and 75 for mine, my daughter got her a beautiful 330 dollar Nordstrom blouse the other night for 98 dollars but money she well earned

5. Pants--for both Hubby 90 dollars the latest I can remember, Me 120 for a pair of personally made jeans a few yrs back, my oldest daughter had a pair of jeans made for her with one leg the american flag for 90 dollars when her dad went to London

6. Skirts--for both...lol 100 is the most I have ever spent on a skirt

7. Purse/Wallet--for both My husband does NOT carry a purse and I dont know on wallets as he is so sick about changing them.. it has to fall to shambles before he will let anyone get him a new one so no clue... a purse... well my sister and her husband and my ex all went to Paris and I sent her 700 dollars to get me some stuff.. she came home with a Louise Vuitton bag and carry on bag from the store there out of their clearance stuff... love em!!!! As for me I would have gotten tons of other stuff with that money but... for my own purchases... I bought a new coach last year about 300 on clearance

One year I did get really stupid... it was right after me and my ex divorced. He had just started working his civilian military job in Iraq and was making major bucks. He told me to take 2 checks and pay all his bills (which I was still in charge of at that time) and then the rest was mine as a "gift" for me taking time out of my life to continue his bills and upkeep of his home. It ended up totaling 20,000 dollars. Instead of being smart and investing it all I took about 9000 of it and spent it that weekend on my kids. Bought them all new game systems and all new wardrobes and 5 pairs of very expensive shoes each and new bedroom suits and rented us our own apartment. still had over 11000 left but looking back as small as the kids were half of those clothes they never even wore as they had so much and I could have so much better ways of spending that money. That was BC and I was definitely NOT a good steward of money then especially since I was spending with a vengance getting back at him!

Other major purchases I spent 1200 on a nice new I think 70 in plasma TV for fathers day this year... and a new xbox 360

Those are over a lifetime of things I can actually remember spending big on... Our kids actually hate it because even though he has a good job we pinch pennies as much as we can around here.. you have to when you have 4 kids but one thing I am very good at is finding a good deal...

Heading to IKEA in a few min to look at a wardrobe we found for our youngest daughters new room we just added... This same wardrobe was 1000 elsewhere and if it is indeed what it looks to be online... I can get it at IKEA for 199!

Now this is what I am talking about!!!!!

Nice post.

I am on the fence about some new casual boots. Originally they are $400. But on sale they are $199. I am trying some new things in my life as I am healthier and have lost the 50lbs. Not going crazy, but trying to look nicer and such. My wife doesn't mind me spending the money if we have it and I need tons of new clothing cause not much fits. Difficult to pull the trigger though. LOL

Re: How much would you spend on...

The most I ever paid for shoes was 120 dollars -for a mediocre pair of ballroom dance shoes.
Usually I pay between 20 and 30 bucks.

Outside of shoes I have paid around 300 for a full suite a couple of times now.

Usually everything else I get is on the clearance rack at Kohls or a Walmart/Sams Club special.

Oh ye of little faith...do you know no tthat we are fibidden to wear costly apparrel.

That would be any apparel that costs.

So we must get our clothing at the good will store for free.

Repent ye sinners.

Re: How much would you spend on...

I shop sales just about always. The most I have paid for a suit for my husband was 375 for one on sale. The most I have paid for a pair of shoes is 105 for the shoes I got married in. I paid more for the shoes than the dress that I got married in.
The most I paid for a dress shirt for my husband is 50 dollars.

We paid 2000 for a television 7 years ago that we are still watching.

My clothes, I try to stay under 50 dollars for my dress clothes, but I have spent as much as 80 dollars.
I spend less on my everyday clothes, but I do like a lot of clothes.
I guess purses are a weakness of mine, I just paid 125 for one- I refuse to carry a purse that cost more than the amount of money I have in it!
We drive a Honda Accord and a Tundra Truck.
Call me cheap!!!!

Good joke! I bet Jesus would be cracking up if it weren't fr all the people going without.

I have spent a little under 300 on a suit, $40 on a tie, $50 on a shirt, and about a hundred on shoes.

During the most wealthy period of my life, I was also very committed to church, and I bought all generic or clearance stuff and never spent like I did when I was a kid and not in church.

When I was fully committed to God, I would have never spent even that much money on clothes. Now I am really starting not to care. "If you got it, flaunt it" I guess. I spent a lot of time living for other people. Now I think I am going to spend time and money on my wife and I.

Prudence is apparently not a christian principle. I am not even sure I am a Christian anymore, so why should I care anyway, right?

I don't know why I get so upset about this sort of thing, but for some reason it eats my lunch to see people who say they are followers of Jesus talk about squandering money on items they could obtain for half the cost. Maybe it is just envy, but it does not seem like it since I have pretty well off at times past (going through a bit of a rough spot right now) and still did not choose to live like that.

Maybe it is just because growing up poor, I was very obsessed with clothes and dressing nice once I started making money, and that became almost a god in my life. I realized, I could put great looks together at a fraction of the cost, and gave it up. For a lot of years, I would not ever wear a name brand or logo of any kind.

I guess looking at my life now, I still blow money in other ways like video games (though I almost always buy used and cheap) and I really want to replace my current phone (which I paid 400 bucks for to avoid getting locked in to another contract, but have had for four years) with an iPhone (which I refused to buy for $400, but would go for at $200) so I guess we all have our areas to work on.

Sometimes I really don't know if anyone is going to make it.

*Leaves depressed*

Not counting properties or cars this is likely close to the top of the list....

over $1,000.00 for what many would consider a "luxury" item.

With me and clothes... I am strictly an impulse buyer. I pay up to 50 or 60 $ for an article if I like it.

I understand what you are saying - to a degree at least. However, if, as you state, this is having a negative impact on you spiritually you have let the enemy use this against yourself as well. It would be better to be a son who is unwise and foolish than depart from the faith entirely.

God bless you, and may you hold fast to what you have recieved through and in Christ.

Wow! I guess I'm not only cheap but poor as well.

My most expensive purse was a gift from my hubby...$150; shoes -$100(for work)
dress or skirt ---$50(?) not counting dresses for weddings....
blouse or shirt- $50; winter coat - $125

But you must realize I NEVER pay full retail. EVERYTHING is clearance rack or at least Kohl's or Marshalls.

For my other half= suit $450 ; shoes $ 80; socks $6 to $10 a pr due to needing the 13-15 size and the reasonable socks are all 10-13 ; shirt $30
Winter wool coat $ 150 and leather jacket $250 (tall sizes from Burlington Coat....sometimes the tall sizes are so difficult to find that I'm forced to spend more..:snapout

My mother taught me well.

I paid $70 for a pair of shoes, once. I can't think of anything else I've paid more than $50 for, in terms of clothing or accessories. I hate to spend money and I'm not a shopper.

A good pair of black pumps. I don't believe in buying cheap shoes--especially heels. If I have to walk in heels, they'd better be comfortable.

I think there's a bit of a difference between what I would be willing to pay and what I normally pay, or what we can afford. I'm a pretty frugal shopper. I do believe in investing in high quality items. Better to have one well-tailored shirt than 10 from Wal-Mart.

Also, we buy less expensive clothes for our kids, simply because they don't get as much use out of them. (They're growing.) But I can buy a pair of shoes and wear them for several years.

Another item I will pay a good chunk of change for is a coat. I buy a coat about every 6-8 years. So even if I spend $750, that's still no different than folks who spend $100 every fall for a new one.

I am on par with you about your thoughts. I think that a custom or near custom suit is well worth the investment. Assuming that one does gain or lose a ton of weight the investment is a lot better than just an off the rack suit. Same for shoes and purses for my wife. There is a difference in paying a large amount cause of the name brand on the item and the value of that which is being purchased. Value is based on what a person is will to give for it, and cost is what is required to obtain it.

"Sometimes I really don't know if anyone is going to make it."

Any reasonable person who considers the lives of even good Christians in the light of the Sermon on the Mount will come to the same conclusion.

I have found a solution: Jesus Christ

If He is not sufficient for our salvation, we are all lost and without hope, but He is and we have hope of salvation.

I have a philosophy. Let someone else pay for something, use it once and sell it to me for a fraction of the price. :) I very seldom buy new, but have occasionally.
