Nicky Cruz at Our church

We had Nicky Cruz for both services yesterday morning. So before anyone goes off on him not being saved, let me just say that he was awesome and we had so many people in the altar repenting and rededicating their lives to the Lord. His testimony is so powerful and even at 70, he's still a great speaker.

I couldn't get past him not looking like Erik Estrada though. LOL!!

He's in town for a crusade and also he's doing some street services in some very marginal areas of Jackson. So we were able to get him yesterday just for an offering. He's a truly nice man.

Gee, Sherri, why would you think people would "go off on him not being saved"?

Do they do that here on AFF?

/sarcasm off/

I heard him speak several years ago in Vancouver, Washington. He really is a good speaker, and has a genuine relationship with God.

I have never heard him but read his books. David Wilkerson once came to Brazil and we went and heard him. Did he and DW once work together? Seems like I remember something along that line but may be wrong.
Did you guys tape the sermon?

How wonderful, I read DW's books when I was young.

People like Nicky Cruz and David Wilkerson and ministries like Teen Challenge are perceived as a threat to some Oneness Pentecostals because it is obvious that God is working in, with, and and through people who do not agree with us on every point of doctrine.

Yea same here... its like some who want to be defensive from the get go just to keep others from being defensive and it ends up starting the mess to begin with... if any of that made sense :(

Re: Nicky Cruz at Our church

As an aside, I heard DW was at a UPC Gen Conference, and that was the year that one preacher actually used the "S" word in his sermon. I heard DW shook his head and walked out.

I would be very careful what I say about anyone especially if they have reached where I have never reached...
We sometimes only judge by Acts 2:38 HE JUDGES by the whole book...
I find it strange that anyone would belittle someone else...if we have so much more we should be out there where the sinners are...doing something!

Now please do not think I have downplayed Acts 2:38...
I have given my whole life preaching Acts 2:38 so it is important. However I want to be careful with my words for they have a way of coming home.

Nicky Cruz is 70???

I remember reading his book in the early eighties & it was referring to years previously.

Quite a testimony for sure.

Amen. Give honour to whom honour is due.

Re: Nicky Cruz at Our church

I bought the book "Run Baby Run" Sunday. I had it when I was a teenager, but I have no idea where I put it and it's probably been reprinted 20 times since that one!! I also bought the DVD of The Cross and the Switchblade, since I haven't seen it for decades either! They are coming out with a Hollywood movie called "Run, Nicky, Run" in the fall - supposed to be really good!

He told about his childhood and I was just weeping. I had forgotten how bad it really was. His Puerto Rican accent is still REALLY strong - I told J.C. that he doesn't even seem to have any accent compared to Nicky Cruz.

An elder in a church where I used to go advised us to taste our words before we spoke them because some times we have to eat our words later.

I really liked both books, "The Cross and the Switchblade" and "Run Baby Run." Both really showed what changes God can make to any individual who surrenders to Him. I've also seen the movie of "The Cross and the Switchblade." We often get so involved with being "right," meticulously dotting every "i" and crossing every "t" and judging by criteria that are really unimportant, that we cannot recognize God at work in someone who does not see eye to eye with us.

I'm loving Jackson, and even more I love my church. Pastor Eddie and Sherri are wonderful. I've learned so much here, and we've just been welcomed so warmly by everyone.

Thanks for asking sis:)

I did speak for myself in that post.
I used the word "we."
I did not mean to imply that all OP's are guilty of that
(but many are).

Margie, send me your address and I'll get you a DVD if we made them. If not, I know I can get you a CD. The second service was the best, when he went into more of his childhood experiences and why he turned to gangs.
