Big Snow Cometh
Thus sayeth the old timers around here. I understand it is based on the signs they read in the persimmon seeds, and the Old Farmer's Almanac.
Here is the first news story I have seen in their favor. Boise gets earliest snow on record http://www.idahostatesman.com/102/story/530075.html |

Last year in Boise it was INSANE. It snows in the valley, but it rarely sticks. And when it does stick, it's usually gone by noon. If it sticks longer...it only sticks on the grass. Except for last year. We had 8 inches twice in the same week. Holy snowballs man. It was a nightmare driving. Since no one's used to it..the roads were horrible for WEEKS. And that's not all the snow there was. There were a few more days around that time period with 5+ inches...in a day. Oh and this is *very* early for snow. lol It's usually still 80s during the day. |

Is this across the board big snow? or just where you are, Steve? Please tell me it just applies to your area :)

Thanks for the cite. "When cut into two pieces, the persimmon seed will display one of three symbols. A knife shape will indicate a cold icy winter (where wind will cut through you like a knife). A fork shape indicates a mild winter. A spoon shape stands for a shovel to dig out the snow." I'll try to find a persimmon tree today. I'm gonna check out a seed and see which piece of silverware it looks like. |

And to head off your next question... You get a persimmon from a persimmon tree usually. :) I am happy to be of been of assistance this morning. :ursofunny |

:) But... just for information's sake... I have found that actually hunching over, holding ones hands like a praying mantis and taking those overtly "sneaky looking" steps actually draws more attention to ones self and doesn't create any kind of cloaking scenario at all. Just in case you needed to know. :) |
Re: Big Snow Cometh
Y'all are so funny. :lol

Re: Big Snow Cometh
FYI...don't pick a persimmon off a tree whether it's yours or somebody else's period, unless you only want to get a seed....don't eat it. If you have to pick it off the tree it's probably so puckery it'd turn you inside out.
The good ones fall off the tree on their own....and even then you're not assured 100%...lol |

I have a relative that got transfered to Boise. We went to visit one Thanksgiving. I did NOT like it...seemed dreary. No offense to anyone from there just my take on it. Stephan, we have had to closest air mass that i can EVER remember in October. I knew when this thing moved it East it would be much worse for all of you. It's been down right COLD. BUT it's back to mid 80s - 90 for the next several days ( back to normal) |
Re: Big Snow Cometh
We have snow halfway down the mountain (lowest one) again here today. Soon we will wake up and everything will be white for 8 months. ;)
We never did get summer this year. :( |

where is "here"? |
Re: Big Snow Cometh
We had about 8" in town, but it is melting fast. Red Lodge, MT got about 46".
I have seen bigger, earlier snows, but that doesn't make it any easier to shovel. I just hope it makes the elk hunting better. |

I heard the Ak cruise is tops but your winters are not meant for human kind lol BUT if you like it ( and I'm sure you do to live there) then all is good. |
