What is the best UPCI endorsed College?

In your view, what is the best UPCI endorsed college and why? Thanks.

you wont like my answer but as far as I am concerned it is McNeese State University in Lake Charles. It isnt UPCI at all but there is a 600 person strong Apostolic Student Union that is powerful and active.

This model is impressive and the UPCI ought to be working to replicate it.

I dont think we have a school that anyone should go to that isnt either called to ministry or unless the person already has an undergrad degree from an acredited school.

WOW, this is very impressive. I realize Louisiana has a huge apostolic population but I can't imagine a school with 600 apostilic students.

Im not sure if that number reflects membership or not but I know that the Church in Lake Charles that supports it, feeds that many students once a week.

It is very impressive and provides a great netword for Apostolic kids in college.

Ferd, that is awesome! I think the UPC should open and endorse ONE
truely credited college and focus its efforts on it.

PraiseHymn,
I dont have a specific recommendation on those schools, since I've never attended any of them....

But I will say if you're looking at a Bachelors program, with the intention of maybe going on to a Masters degree program one day, you should probably find out if the college is accredited or not. Depending on what your long term plans are, you might not want to be stuck with a Bachelors degree that's not accredited and cant be applied toward an accredited Masters program elsewhere.

To my understanding, few, if any, of these UPCI Apostolic colleges are regionally accredited. That's something to consider. In that case, I might take a close look at a 'regular' college that has a high apostolic population, like McNeese State.

I am an alumni of CLC, when Dan Segraves was there it was the best, now I can't say that it is.

If you are talking historically, I would have to say ABI.

If you are talking currently, I would probably say IBC.

If you are talking secular education wise, NONE.

The AoG and several other denominations have done a much better job of producing colleges that produce a quality secular education, not just a theological education. It's a shame that there seem to be no good options for Apostolics who want to go to an Apostolic/UPCI college to get a quality accredited education in a variety of secular majors.

Re: What is the best UPCI endorsed College?

I was just curious that’s all. Funny, with all the UPCI schools listed the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ got them beat. We got our accreditation and literally are the first Apostolic School that did that. You can get Pell Grants and Stafford loans (basically Title IV funding) http://www.wlbonnercollege.org/ And you are right the Assemblies of God has tons of accredited schools too. Oh, and lets not forget the Seventh Day Adventist Church, they have so many schools you never have to go to public school a day in your life (including historically black Adventist Colleges and Universities) as well as hospitals too.

I guess that leads us to the follow up question, how can the UPCI be the largest Oneness organization and have not one accredited school?????????? I mean granted, I know it’s a doctrinal thing (enforcing Acts 2:38 on allllllllllllllllllllll students etc etc) but come on.....there should be at least ONE.........

yes, those were the days.

Putting up with Odle's Parables Classes

Olive Haney wonderful legacy being shared with us Freshmen

I remember when we had that break out on the Radio, I even got to be on it.

And the tremendous Legacy of Kenneth Haney being passed on to me.

Traveling and ministering with the Youth Choir.

Interesting question. I'm sure you could get a wide variety of answers.

But in my view, a lot of it has to do with the simple fact that to me UPCI leadership (and perhaps UPCI culture as a whole), have not placed enough importance on the value of secular university education and preparation for secular careers as do the believers in some of these other denominations.

That is probably true historically. I do know that about 10 years ago, CLC was doing a lot of talking and prepping to try to become accredited. I believe they are regionally certified or something and some of their credits are transferable. They were working in more regular classes into the curriculum.

Although some accredited schools choose to accept some of the classes from CLC they are not accredited. I just tried to get a teaching job and couldn't cuz my CLC degrees are not accredited, even though I'm enrolled in a Masters program. Outside of an OP ministry career and perhaps personal 'enrichment' a degree from these schools have little value in terms of employment or transfer to other undergraduate or grad programs. When I graduated from CLC and went to the local community college they would only give me 12 elective credits for my two degrees from CLC.

I concur w/you and TRFrance. There is a general disdain for higher education in the OP ranks and thus little commitment to it in terms of effort and money. It's a shame.

I would probably say IBC or TBC....

The support for this kind of program has to start at the top. And we all know the attitude toward education by the guy at the top of the local CLC food chain.

CLC was so closed to becoming fully accredited. What happened??? ( I know its more like WHO happened...dear Lord HELP!)

Since the UPC has cornered the market on "TRUTH," why can't they establish a fully accredited Bible College with instructors who have met the degree requirements necessary??? Where is the concern for the young people who spend their money, talent and effort graduating from these inadequate institutions only to find that their "degree" counts for not much in the real world???

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Re: What is the best UPCI endorsed College?

I wish I could have just 5-10 minutes to speak to Kenneth Haney about this. This is an issue that should have been dealt with a long time ago. We're really doing our youth a disservice the way things are right now. Most 17-18 year olds looking to sign up for one of these UPC schools arent thinking about accreditation, or the long term effects of having a degree that's considered worthless by most people in the "real world".

My son wanted to go to IBC but I refused to fund it. I told him I would help him go to an accreditted college. He received almost a full ride scholarship to Anderson University but instead chose to go into the Ironworker Apprenticeship program. He graduates in Feb with his Journeyman's license and an Associates degree in Applied Science. I am very proud of him, although I would have chosen a profession for him closer to mine:) LOL

Blessings, Rhoni

P.S. He graduated from High School with honors in English and in Art. Kids these days - you never know what they'll do.

I wasn't ready for the secular world until later in life. The JCM diploma means a lot to me although the world thinks it is a crock.:tease
