Christmas Plans

I know not all celebrate Christmas (apologies to Rico) & even recognize the season.
We do, we give gifts to our kids & have a few lights up (we don't run around screaming and bow down to it either) & a few decorations as well.

With the economic situation being as it is, are your plans changing, staying the same, or just forgoing Christmas altogether?

Nothing is changing for us. I have a whole lot more decorations than I did last year. Found some gorgeous stuff on clearance last year.

Sorry, Rico. I do bow before my tree because it takes so long to string 1,000 lights, fill the tree with all sorts of goodies and when I'm done, I'm just happy and I bow. :ursofunny

An old song by Jorge Jorgeson from 1947!
Sounds like our Christmas when we were a kid.

It will be Christmas as usual here at the Scott household. Me and wifey give each other a hard time and give the daughter a months pay in presents. Then spend the next 3 months trying to catch back up.

It will be our first Christmas in Arizona, so we plan on decorating a few of our Mesquite trees in the backyard, and mailing Christmas card postcards with it on them.

For the first time in a long time I will not be with family during Xmas I am teaching the day services of a meeting in South Texas during Xmas.

The economy has nothing to do with us setting aside one day in a year to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Will the normal amount of money be spent on gifts for the family - probably not.

We will be celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with kids and grandkids on Dec.14th. That is the only thing that will be different. I love to decorate for Christmas. Will be shopping soon.

Driving 12 hours to be with my spouse's family. I'm not very excited about that or the long drive. The only bright spot is we're stopping at a couple places along the way to visit with long-time friends we rarely see.

Still, I wish we would just stay home.

Christmas will be different for me this year.

It will be the first time that I will not be with family ON CHRISTMAS - - - waaaaahhhaaa!

When my kids got married we decided to do the every other year thing just to make it easier for everyone. I had them for Thanksgiving this year so they will be with their in-laws for Christmas.

I was going to my dad's for Christmas, but found out last week they are going to his wife's daughter's in Houston.

I have a few options - just not sure what I will be doing though. Trying to be a big girl about it, but.....................

This makes me sad Renda, I feel for you. It is different when you are single and your kids are grown, there are definitely times when you feel like you don't have a spot. I know when my daughter gets married it will become more complicated. But I am sure that you have great friends in the area who will fill in the gap!! :friend

Don't be sad......I'll figure it out -- just a new phase I'm dealing with.

Re: Christmas Plans

Here's my question to folks that celebrate and buy xmas gifts... Why don't you just stop giving gifts on xmas, and then on the 26th, 27th or sometime before January 1st, take advantage of most stuff being half off, and then give those gifts on January 1st as "New Years Gifts"? I convinced my Methodist aunt to do it, and she thought it was one of the few good ideas I've ever had :lol... I know, I know, I'm just a cheap, penny-pinching Jew...

Then we would be celebrating the pagan New Year. Just can't win, so why not make it about giving gifts like the Wise Men did? :gift

I do give gifts and I realize Jesus was not born on DEC.25 and I do know about the origins of Christmas.

New Year's is pagan?

I'm serious..I've never looked at the origins of New Year's eve..but I know I never came across it in my studies either, nor did I observe it as a witch. My new year was Samhain. (and yes, this really does mean that my entire year cycle was out of sync..and it's still messed up...lol)

lol.....yes, we all love Christmas time! I love it!

We'll have that time on the 20th!!

I'm looking at it as an opportunity - - just need to decide what direction to go. I know one thing for sure - I won't spend it alone.

No, I don't celebrate Christmas now.

I celebrated Yule, and the Americanized Christmas when I was a witch.

Samhain is Halloween. And I don't celebrate that anymore either. :tease

Plan to go to Shreveport as my brother will be home for Christmas this year and his birthday on New Years day. Usually, he has to work.

Dropped my digital camera and broke it so I am thinking I know what my Christmas present will be this year.
