Leave Us Alone - We Work Hard for our Stuff!!

Last night I received a call from my son and his wife while I was at a company dinner that their apartment was broken into.

My heart sank for them. It turned out decent as a neighbor felt/heard when they rammed the door in and came down to see what was going on. The watch guy apparently saw him and they left quickly.

Drawers were rummaged through and jewelry boxes opened, but nothing of value was taken.

However, now they are scared to death. The intruders saw all the things that they do have and could come back.

How sad is it that we work hard for our paychecks to buy the things we want only to violated and frightened of low lives that are too lazy to get a job to get their own stuff.

I only see this happening more and more with our economy worsening. Lord protect us all!!!

Poor kids! That's a scary thing to have to go through.

Re: Leave Us Alone - We Work Hard for our Stuff!!

I can't even imagine how they feel. I'm sure they feel violated, even though nothing appears to have been taken. Do they have door/window alarms? If not, they might want to invest in them.

I would also advise them to make sure they have insurance coverage for theft-- and don't underestimate the value of what they have. Lists of serial numbers & photo documentation is important also. My insurance agent was here a few months ago, and told me I need to at least double the policy I have for contents coverage on my insurance. Most of us probably don't carry enough coverage.

I know it's just "stuff"... but we all work hard to get what we have, and if someone steals it from us or there is another type of loss we should be able to replace it without it being a financial hardship. JMHO.

This kind of stuff "frosts" me!!!

I pity the "foo" who tries to break into our home with my three sons and tons of guns! :D

My son and daughter-in-law were robbed a few months back. They took over 10,000 worth of stuff in less than an hour, when she went to the grocery store. They had insurance but that is a small consulation. Big screen TV's went on sale so they got an even bigger one when they replaced that though.

My son also has guns and he just bought a closet safe last week and those were all locked up - thank goodness.

However, they did stay there last night and since the door was only temporarily fixed they put a smaller, heavy safe behind the door and I suggested they put something on top of the safe that would fall off and hit the tile in case the door was tampered with.

Well, at 1:30 last night the cup fell off the safe and hit the tile. My son sit up in bed with his gun off safetly pointed at the door. Nothing happened, but they got up and dressed and came to my house.

As they were leaving their place two cop cars and neighbors were in the breezeway below their apt. The apt. below them had been broken in to also. The neighbor they talked to last night had come up and knocked on their door and that's what knocked the cup off the safe.

Very unsettling.

Yes, Tina they are insured - thank goodness and he has all his receipts for their electronics, etc. in the gun safe that is mounted to the wall in their closet. They are going to activate the security system today - $25 a month is a small price to pay for a little bit more security.

They are also looking for a house - and putting a contract on a house today. None too soon.

I can feel for them Renda, Remember my apt was broken into three times when I first moved in. They changed my locks all three times but now I sleep with a chair under both of my door knobs. I never feel quite safe any more.

Praying for your kids,
Rhonda

Lol....well, this is the "better" area of Memphis. But, now days there's no safe place. Apartments are just ripe for this type activity though, so hopefully they will be able to purchase a home in Collierville soon.

Much safer there.

Their door frame was knocked 4-5 feet into the living area. The screws that bolted the plate onto the door were at least four inches long and there were three of those just knocked out like they weren't even there.

Must have been some pretty good size guys.

Yes, but they are hoping to be moving out very, very soon.

The couple across from them do have a dog - so that might have saved them from getting broken into.

That is sad.

My wife & I were married almost a year when my wife came home from work & called me at work (I was working overtime) & said that we had been broken into.

We had a number of things stolen, my wife's guitar, some of our wedding cake, all of my suits save one!

You feel violated!

It gave us the creeps that a stranger(s) was traipsing through our house!

Your peace & security is rattled!

Good thing is this--nothing happened to them physically!

That is something to be thankful for!

Our family has never been the same after all those masked men broke into our house...It just leaves you with such an uncertain feeling knowing someone knows where you keep about everything...

That is sad Renda. More and more I think that we are all going to have to take extra measures to protect ourselves from people who seem to exist only to prey on people. The lack of conscious and any moral guide in some people is downright scary.

The young man in the article below was related to one of our faithful saints... Such a tragic waste.

Renda, I know your children feel so violated - but thank the Lord that they weren't at home when it happened! This young father was murdered in his front yard as he was getting into his vehicle to go to work. It is a nice neighborhood.

.......Smith said robbery seems to be the motive behind the homicide of 35-year-old Mike Rutledge as he prepared about 4 or 5 a.m. Wednesday to leave for the Federal Correctional Institution in .....

No, go German Shepherd...good deterent but not a great liability. Smartest dog alive. (You can probably tell what kind of dog I have):)

And just for good measure, here she is at about 9 months. She's pretty big for a female.

Shepherds are smart dogs and yours is beautiful! Since I was young, my family always had a German Shepherd. Looks like yours is spoiled, too. :)

Oh, you don't know the half. I'm sure she looks so intent in those pictures because she was begging for something from whoever was on the couch. I've had Shepherds my whole life so I am pretty biased.

I'm going to their apt. now to help them pack. They have an opportunity to "house sit" an empty house that is on the market for free until they purchase a house. They have a contract on a house now, so I'm praying that works out.

They are neogiating a deal to get out of their apt. lease. When they went to apt. office to let them know they had been robbed - the blonde airhead said, "well that suc*s" - - no empathy or concern at all.

My son told her he had a lot of friends looking for apts and he'll make sure that he tells them not to bother looking at The Preserve. He asked if they were going to send out a letter to let the others know that there had been four break-ins and she said no. He said, well we told everyone in our building and four of them are planning on relocating too.

Sis, does your son know of any other robberies that were done at "The Preserve?" The attitude of the B.A.H. strikes me as odd. Her response sounds pretty lame. I mean, it's not like they had a pipe break under the sink and the apartment flooded. This was a burglary, and therefore you would think the office manager would have a little more concern about the incident.
Because of the office manager's pathetic response my suspicions would be focused on her. I would be curious to know how many burglaries does she know about? Also how long have they been happening while she has been holding her manger position? Stranger things have been known to happen.
She might be totally innocent and just shows no apathy for anyone.
Still, she may know when people are home, and their apartments are easy marks for burglaries.

Hope all goes well with your son and will be praying for his situation.

In Jesus name

Brother Benincasa

Several years ago our cabin cruiser was broken into in the marina.

The next night I stayed aboard the boat, sleeping with one eye open and a large knife at my side.

When I did hear something outside I began to really rethink my decision to confront a burglar.

Fortunaltly for the burglars and myself no one showed up to pilfer my boat that night.

The thing I remember about being broken into and robbed waqs the feeling of being violated.

I hope everything works out well for your kids Renda

I'm so sorry, unfortunately we've been there as well, you feel violated to say the lest! Everything feel dirty and unclean, worst part you are scared! Your space been invaded. I bet it was someone living in the unit, two homes were broken into, sounds like they knew their victims daily doings and coming and goings, when they be gone.

We lost over 55,000.00 in a break in over six years ago, sadly it was someone who knew us, and a godly person we called a friend. When we confronted them and told them we were going to the police they threaten to kill us. To make a long story short, they returned to our home three weeks later with two other men, with guns in hand to kill us. Our next store neighbor at the time who was a chain smoker scared them off as he went out for his nightly smokes. Thank God we were not harmed! They police arrested them! But we never recover the stolen items.

The worst part ,we no longer feel safe, nor trust people like we did!
