California Conference Report
 

Hi from San Jose! We've been to two sessions so far at Jubilee and I am excited that my daughter and her husband have a great church to attend. There are probably about 2000 seats on the ground floor, plus a huge balcony. It was very full last night for Heidi Baker!

Heidi was great, but she's definitely different. She's not a fantastic speaker, but her anointing is incredible. The first ten minutes or so she kneeled on the floor on the platform and sang to the Lord, just a song from her heart, inviting Jesus' presence. It was very powerful! It's inspiring to hear what God is doing in Mozambique - healings every week, dead people raised, etc. Coming from a very affluent family in So. California, she lives among the slums with the poorest people on earth. I really admire her!

Today, we heard Tudor Bismarck (former UPC) and we will hear him again tonight. As always, he is FABULOUS!! He is so intelligent and so powerful. He spoke on order in God's kingdom. I'm excited about the service tonight.

Praise and worship is VERY LOUD, but great! Ashley said it's not normally quite that loud. The gal leading last night is actually the worship leader for the youth, so she was very energetic, but good.

Mike Hayes is tomorrow, both AM and PM.

Some local guys from their church who I don't know. Also Michael Pitts, who I'm not a fan of, but I don't really know enough about him to judge. Just things I've heard.

Isn't Dick Bernel trinitarian? I assume from reading this post that you're okay with her attending his church.

Pitts is from my neck of the woods about 1 hr from here. He has been picked up more than once for DUI and was on house arrest for an indecent exposure charge. These are all public knowledge and the convictions have been in the news. Has a bad reputation in Toledo, where he pastors. I've met him and heard him preach. IMO, just another arrogant "prosperity" preacher who uses people.

I'm totally fine with her attending church there. I'm glad it's a powerful Spirit filled place and everyone that I met there is totally sold out to God. Ashley knows what she believes and I'm not worried about her. I loved this church!!

Tudor PREACHED tonight!!! He had everyone on their feet, out in the aisles--he was amazing! He did an altar call for young singles, and then another one for pastors/wives. It's nearly 11 pm here, but we just got back to the hotel, coming straight from church.

One thing interesting about Jubilee - there are still some very conservative, old style things. They have a rockin' choir (only about 5 Caucasians), and a grand piano, which is not normal in newer churches. I noticed that all the women in their choir who had on skirts instead of pants, had them below the knees. I thought it was a pretty conservative platform stance for California. I don't have a clue what Dick Bernal's background is, but he associates a lot with Tudor and Mike Hayes, who are both from UPC backgrounds.

If they are totally sold out for God, why don't they obey the bible. Now I may be old fashioned but if I am sold on something it means I go all the way with what I am sold on. They refuse to believe Jesus is the Father. Jesus said you will die in your sin's if you don't believe he is the Father. Sin can never enter there.

I assume they are obeying the Bible as they understand it, just like you or I are obeying the Bible as we understand it.

Sam that is a cop out. It does not take a revelation from God to understand Acts 2:38. One simply must obey it to be saved. No if, and, or buts.

Light, you are speaking in retrospect.
You have seen things that some others have not and it seems simple to you.

Not everyone hears or sees Acts 2:28 the same.
Some sincerely see it as a three-step "formula" for salvation.
Some sincerely see it as two commands (repent and be baptized) and a promise (you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost).
Some sincerely believe that their experience as a baby when some water was applied to their head by a minister or priest fulfills one of those commands.
Some sincerely believe that when they asked Jesus to come in and forgive them and help them live for Him, that He actually did come in as the Holy Spirit.
Some sincerely believe that "in Jesus' name" means by His authority and that He authorized His disciples to use a "formula" that includes the words "Father," "Son" and "Holy Spirit."
Some sincerely believe that the condition of the person's heart is more important than the amount of water used or the exact words used in the ritual.

Some times we (and I include myself here because I've done it too) are too quick to judge a person's sincerity because they have a different understanding than we do.

To Light (and others) - I saw people on their faces before God, slain in His presence, and worshipping with abandon. I don't think they are refusing anything that they have seen in Scripture. They're just sold out to what God is doing in this ugly world! I didn't see anything that I thought was crazy Charismatic flaky stuff, and trust me, I've seen plenty before. We sang about the blood, the Cross, and had fantastic worship time.

I don't have a clue how he baptizes, but I know he's closely connected with a lot of Jesus' name people. He is also connected with Larry Stockstill's church in Baton Rouge, which I love!!

So true. I'm totally Acts 2:38 all the way. Such a one God believer the word trinity upsets me. That being said, I'm also tolerant of other levels of experience.

I attended a couple ladies conferences that were associated with the Open Bible organization.
Truth? maybe not, but that does not limit the power and annointing that I saw there. The speakers were in touch with God and used by God to minister.

I've also attended a couple of Women's Aglow conferences. Once again, annointing, worship, and the blessings of God.

And in more recent times went to several womens conferences sponsored by an independent "pentecostal" group in town. One years speaker stands out in my mind. She was super charged with the spirit. Annointed teaching/preaching. She's a pastors wife from Pittsburgh.

Did any of them believe Acts 2:38? No.
There was annointing, great teaching, worship and the blessings of the Lord.

I was blessed, encouraged, uplifted, ministered to, convicted........

As much as we UPCers would like to own God or put Him in a box, He reigns supreme and He can annoint and bless however He chooses to.

He decided this year not to have any big names, for which I'm glad. We wouldn't have come if they had been there. I had my fill of Paula and Juanita a few years ago.

Last night Mike Hayes preached and he was great! I hadn't heard him in a while; he's such a good communicator. It was very sobering, but a very strong word. A lot of what he said impressed me; I don't think he's anything like a lot of the big name preachers today. His heart seems sincere and really after the things of God.

Mike Hayes was going to the UPC Bible School in Houston when my brother-in-law went there. I don't know if Mike graduated. I assume Mike is not a UPC licensed/ordained minister?

No, he was a UPC evangelist when he was young, but he's been independent for many years now. His church in Dallas is HUGE. He married one of the Singing Parkers (Kathy).
