The Difference Between Prophecy and Prophesy

Remember this rule...

Prophecy (prah-feh-see)-this word has a c in it, thus making the pronunciation easy to remember (see-c).

Prophesy (prah-feh-si)-this word has a s in it. The ending is pronounced 'sigh'.

These two words are the most commonly misapplied words and it drives me crazy. Now that I've cleared it up for you, I feel better.

Learn this, and carry on!:tease

Re: The Difference Between Prophecy and Prophesy

The key difference of course, is that one is a noun, the other a verb.

Prophecy.... Noun. She gave a prophecy in church yesterday.

Prophesy.... Verb. The anointing came on him and he began to prophesy.

Jesus is my Righteousness (1 Corinthians 1:30).

My grammatical pet peeve would be the proper use of:

they're

They're going to put their coats in there.

Those drive me nuts! LOL

Very good Sam.

I have known many O/P's that have more confidence in their own

Righteousness, than in Christ's righteousness imputed to them.

Most couldn't explain imputed righteousness if their soul depended on it.

OHHHH !! It does depend on it.

This is a song called Two Coats.
It kinda explains it.
The way I see it is that Jesus and I are standing next to each other.
I am clothed in my sin and He is clothed in His righteousness.
We exchange garments.
He puts on my sin and I put on His righteousness.

Like another song says, I am "faultless to stand before the throne dressed in His righteousness alone.

Two Coats

Two coats were before me
And old and a new
I asked my sweet Master
Oh what must I do

The old coat was ugly
So tattered and torn
The other a new one
Had never been worn

I'll tell you the best thing
I ever did do
I took off the old coat
And put on the new

The first man was earthly
And made from the ground
We all bore his image
The whole world around

The next was my Savior
From heaven so fair
He brought me this new coat
You now see me wear

I'll tell you the best thing
I ever did do
I took off the old coat
And put on the new

Now this coat it suits me
And keeps me so warm
It's good in the winter
It's good in the storm

My Savior has dressed me
In a garment so rare
He brought me this new coat
You now see me wear

I'll tell you the best thing
I ever did do
I took off the old coat
And put on the new

I'll tell you the best thing
I ever did do
I took off the old coat
And put on the new

Yeah, with that extra "s" on the end.
It's only one revelation, and it's the revelation of Jesus Christ.

How about Lazareth for Lazarus?
or Jesus of Nazarus?

Re: The Difference Between Prophecy and Prophesy

I belong to FGBMFI (Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International).
We have a monthly breakfast meeting, a monthly dinner meeting and a monthly prayer meeting. As you can pretty well figure, the prayer meeting crowd is not very large, about 4 to 8 guys. One of the guys who used to come was named Dave. He was blind and not too great in the personal hygiene dept. He went to be with the Lord a few years ago. Any way, Dave would pray and, as folks often do, he had some phrases he used pretty often. One was about God's shemima glory. He meant shekinah glory but he would ask God to pour out His shemima glory. As we sat around that table, all serious and praying, and being spiritual, every time he would say shemima glory I would think about Aunt Jemima pancake mix or syrup and have to stifle a chuckle.
