Thanksgiving Plans

Can you believe Thanksgiving is nearly here already? Wow where did the time go?

We will be leaving for Sand Mountain saturday morning. Thanksgiving is one of the very few reunions we have left that some of the family will make an effort to join in together. I sure miss the old fashion reunions with lots of family, food and fun.

I hope each of my AFF family has a blessed and great Thanksgiving!:friend

Spam and Dressing for us. Just kidding!!!

I am cooking this Thanksgiving for the first time in 30 years of marriage! My folks will be in Indiana and Eddie's mom is recovering from shoulder surgery, so it's up to me. There will be only eight people and it will be at my house. I'm excited about hosting it! I bought a fall tablecloth and napkins at Tuesday Morning last week. I also have a big cornucopia for a centerpiece that I got 90% off last year after the holidays.

Why don;'t you all just go out and then have everyone come to the house for dessert? it would save a lot of hassle

I am heading to St Louis to be with my Brother David Eckstadt who is married to Sandra (Lamb) Eckstadt.

She went to JCM a million years ago.

They pastor a non-denominational Pentecostal Church in Waterloo, IL.

It is going to be great to see my three nieces.

Who are now 20, 18 and 14.

Wow where has all the time gone?

Combining Thanksgiving and Christmas December 14 this year. On the actual Thanksgiving Day we have no plans yet. But I am sure football will be the highlight of the day.

I just talked to SE. tears began to well up in his eyes as I related to him what you said.
It was as if he was quoting from the book of lamantations as he talked about his concern for your soul

Yes.

The kids are on the every other year plan - this year it's Thanksgiving with me and Christmas with their inlaws. We will be together and have our Christmas the weekend before Christmas. It just works easier for them this way.

We are having it in St. Louis at my daughter's instead of my house because the Craig side of the family wants to do a big family photo and everyone will be there Thanksgiving weekend to make it happen. It was easy to move our Thanksgiving to my daughter's to enable them to do this.

Their Craig grandmother is not doing too well (cancer) and the urgency to have a family photo became priority.

It will just be strange that I won't be in the picture - lol!

Because I actually want to do it this year. I love to cook! We are having T'giving on Friday here instead of Thursday, so on T'giving Day, I guess Eddie, Zac & I will go out to a buffet somewhere. Not sure yet. I will be spending most of that day cooking for Friday anyway.

I will be making Gooey Cake and Pumpkin Pie for sure. Not sure what else yet in the line of desserts. With only 8 people, you don't need too many.

This Saturday we are hosting a Thanksgiving style dinner for the less fortunate, I am cooking for about 200 or so people: turkey, ham, green beans, potatoes, noodles, dressing, desserts, coffee, tea...... yeah I am tired already and haven't even started cooking yet.

I am just thankful I have the ability to do it.

In my completely unbiased opinion. Sis Esther is the ONLY person on this Forum (besides me) that has any good sense. No finer place on all of God's green earth than Sand Mountain, Alabama. I live on the North end of Sand Mountain and I gotta tell ya, I can't imagine living anywhere else. If ya ever wanna catch a glimpse of life on Sand Mountain, watch some old episodes of Green Acres. Now THAT is reality TV, Sand Mountain style!

I won't be doing Thanksgiving this year. Or Christmas. Just ain't the same. Maybe next year, but not this year.
