Did you Hear that TD Jakes Announced to his church yesterday that he is going to be doing a talk show on CBS?????

DR PHIL is opening to doors for him - what do you think of that?

Will this be more phyco babble or something that will help people spiritually?

Is Jakes getting more worldy minded???

Anything the church can do to get its name and face from our midst out there is good. Don't see how it can be a bad thing nor the Bishop being worldly minded...at least on the surface it seems alright.

I think Bishop Jakes is one of the most powerful preachers I have ever heard. He has such an incredible mind! He thinks OUTSIDE the box that so many narrow minded people try to put him in!
He is so incredibly KINGDOM MINDED and helps and blesses so many people around the world. He is a great example of what a true APOSTOLIC should be!
I admire him and he could care less what midget minded people say about him - he is out doing the work of GOD!
Thank God for BISHOP JAKES! I pray for him to see much more success in the future!

AB, I really like Bishop Jakes as well. I've read some of his books (probably not all) and listened to him speak a few times. But I've also watched him when he appears on Dr. Phil. I hear him give good advice to people. But I have yet to hear him mention how GOD is the answer to their problems. I have to wonder if that same trend will continue if he gets his own show? I hope not. I hope that he speaks the truth on his own show. But we'll have to wait and see.

Some people like him, some don't. Doesn't mean they are narrow minded. And I disagree with some of what you posted, though I really do like to hear him preach.

Jakes is definitely one of the most gifted orators of our time. He really stands alone when it comes to preaching and delivering a sermon. He is truly amazing.


I don't think it's small minded per say to be concerned. But I am willing to see what he does and let the end product speak for itself.

My issue is that I feel we must guard the gifts God has given us, because they are for His glory. I think it is wrong to use God given gifts for other purposes other than anything that would glorify God's kingdom.

So I do hope that God is glorified in all of this, that would be awesome!

The word "megalomania' comes to mind. Jakes is a orator, no doubt. But he comes across to me as incredibly arrogant and I struggle to see in my minds eye that Christ would present himself as Jakes does.

Ooo, your really drinking the Jakes cool-aid. Come on now, you know good and well its all about the MONEY and being recognized more in a secular arena. Spiritual? I think not. When I lived in Dallas I attended his church numerous times and his entire congregation is CARNAL! The only thing I liked was that for a "mega church" they really allowed God to come in and take control of the services (that IS when the Lord decided to show up...at times service could be 3 to 3.5 hours long) but after being approached from his members wanting to basically "beat me down" for commenting on him wearing an earring out side of the pulpit, I knew good and well that true change was not coming to "the potters house" lest I forget to inform you of the people I ran into in the streets who went there faithfully and still clubed, drank and curesed everyone out on there secular jobs......pulease...........Inspirational Speaker/Motivator...YES....oracle of God...Mmmmm, NO!

I have been a personal friend and guest of Bishop Jakes many times for many years. I knew him before he owned his own tape duplicating equipment and before he owned a video camera. My sons and I have eaten at his table in many places around the nation for breakfast, lunch, dinner and midnight snaks and I can promise you that - One thing that Bishop Jakes is NOT - Is ARROGANT! He is very CONFIDENT in God and in himself and I admire that incredibly! He is a very gifted and powerful man of God.

My gut instinct is a watered down feel good show.

How far can the truth be watered down and still be affective.

I can see how this can morph into something really bad, but right now, I am excited for the opportunity that the Lord is giving His servant Bishop Jakes.



Isn't that something! God is about to elevate a preacher outside of mainstream Christianity in doctrine to a place of mainstream television on a major U.S television network!!!

Look at God work!

I really like listening to him preach, I am not impressed as much when I watch him on TV.

Our nation needs less glitz and flash, less bling bling and more Jesus Christ. Paula tried the talk show thing too. We need to desparately drop the politics and just be Christians and reach our world. We need to stop being tainted with the same politico divisions, thirst for power,wealth and fame and let them see Jesus.

We need to put an end to the cult of personality and "Ministries".

I never see in the bible Paul or anyone else going on and on about THEIR ministries. You think Paul went town to town with a parade and a banner over his head that read "Apostle Paul Ministries"?????

All this is, is christian celebrity-ism that has polluted ministry. I don't believe God is in a million miles of Jakes being a T.V. host.

The dominion theory is at the base of these choices made by men and women called to preach the gospel and hated by all nations for his name sake. Dominion Theory (taking over the culture for Christ) is a false teaching that allows believers to make secular decisions that are adverse to the word of God. Jake's popularity with the world is a sign of corrosion.

I find these two statements to be incongruous.

If the ENTIRE congregation was carnal (Which I find EXTREMELY hard to believe) how could they let the Lord show up and take control of the services?

I dunno, maybe he's not arrogant in reality, but he comes across as arrogant and a man as smart as him should realize that (and I think Jakes is brilliant). I think he's smart enough to realize how he comes across and thus conclude that this is an image he wishes to project. My brother thinks it's his way of projecting "a strong, successful black man" image which could be inspirational in the black culture. I dunno, I'm not black so I can't comment on that. Even so, I don't think Jesus would project that sort of image...he was humble and meek and unassuming. Paul was too. I think Jakes has visions of granduer and would like to be the next MLK type figure that Jackson, Sharpton, et al attempted to assume and have failed at miserably, imo.

Part of my opinion is based on his preaching style where he puffs out his chest and struts around with this look of what I'm sure some people would say is resoluteness, but to me looks like stubborn arrogance. And for awhile there he had a lackey follow him around with a towel to wipe his sweaty face while he preached. The poor guy would follow him around all over the auditorium and served as a glorified towel boy.

Jakes is a great preacher and I've preached a couple of if his sermons myself (and gave him full and complete credit, btw). But for this white guy he comes across as full of himself and arrogant and flamboyant. Much like the people on TBN. He fits in there fairly well, imo.

Well, I have some folks who attend NLC who club & cuss and some who drink and some who are mean to their spouse etc. However, most folks don't do that. We'll see if Jakes is outside of his calling or not in due time. That's kind of like what Gamaliel said, isn't it? :D

Even though the Bishop does a lot of things around the world how is this that different than a pastor working a regular job. It is not too awful different, IMO.

I think folks are being too hard on him.

If God has opened the door, He should walk through.


I pray that he doesn't compromise on anything CLEARLY BIBLICAL.

If he does I'll be a little let down, seriously. No, my confidence is not in him, it is in Jesus Christ. I'd just hate to see the man of God take down on something that he shouldn't.



If he does "take down", will his compromising give any kind of credence to the arguments made by the WPF'ers?

The key word is "IF."

Too many folks build the door and push it open and then say God did it. Chances are not only is God not in the building He probably isn't anywhere near the same neighborhood.

Sure. But no doubt one only has to look at the progression of the history that has brought a person to a particular point to get a pretty good gut feeling for what their future holds. "Show me your friends and I'll show you your future."

I would tend to agree with this to a point.

But, if you look at the course a person's life is taking, or will take, solely on the friends they surround themselves with, you might not have predicted Peter's future, or Judas' future.

Bottom line, the Lord inhabits the Praises of His people.....God shows up anytime He is praised, you dont have to be saved to Praise Him. The key is, once God shows up, are you going to let Him in (in your hearts, in your mind, in to change your charachter). Some people just love the "emotional" side of God and the way He can make you feel during corporate worship HOWEVER its up to YOU to take Him at His word and litteraly receive the transforming power of the Holy Ghost into your life......
